We finally reached my home, exactly when the war officially started, where we can discuss of a strategy with Rider.
"So, Rider, did you notice anything weird about the other masters?" I asked
"Something indeed seemed weird to me. One of the Master had some residual magic on him. Most likely from a bounded field. To still be detectable by me, it must be pretty powerful, it was most likely created by a Caster Servant." she calmly explained.
"Who was it?" I asked, wanting to know who could set up something this powerful.
"It was the cat. Judging by his stance and face, he seemed to be prepared for the war. I felt like he had no hesitation."
"His name is Shin Kuroi. And for some reason, it doesn't surprise me that much that he is prepared for it, he always has been serious about what he does. I know Casters are very powerful, he is without any doubt a threat." I explained
"I see. I think eliminating him should be one of our priorities, unless you have something else in mind. If nobody deals with him, he could be almost unbeatable in the near future, as his servant seems really powerful." she said, determined to act fast
"I think you are right Rider, we don't know anyone's servant, and we identified his as a threat. Since his house is isolated, we can attack without any citizen seeing the fight."
"Then let's go, Master, I will follow in my spirit form, but let's be careful." she said, before fading away.
I left through the front door, locked it, and started to walk toward Shin's house. The house wasn't very far from my own, but I chose to use small streets, so I don't get noticed by people, especially by the other masters. When we almost reached the house, I noticed a big, black car coming out of Shin's house. I wondered who it could have been, since people rarely come here. I decided not to pay much attention to it, and crouched behind the bushes that circle his house. His house is a big western one, with a large garden behind it. At this moment, Rider chose to materialise behind me and to talk:
"There is a strong bounded field circling his house and garden. However, it's not made to stop people from entering or to detect them, I don't exactly know what it is for. I suggest entering by the back, so he won't notice us right away." she clarified
"Sounds like a good idea, let's go."
We walked next to the bushes, then decided to climb them to go to the other side. We took a look and didn't see anyone. I wanted to have some info before attacking him, or before he noticed us. Before we could even move somewhere else, I've heard a familiar voice a few meters away:
"Well, don't you know it's rude to enter in someone's garden without asking?" a black cat said. It was Shin, one of my childhood friend, now an opponent in this holy grail war.
"Yo Shin, sorry, just didn't want to go through the front door you know." I said jokingly, trying to lighten up the mood
"Whatever, it's pretty reckless of you to come here so fast. Especially without knowing what you may face. Well, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, you never changed, despite all the years." he said, somewhat annoyed
"I'm just using the occasion I have to win the war ya know, and before we start, I have a question. What is the car that was there earlier? Not many people own a car here, and even less own car as fancy as this one. And you rarely receive guests, so I'm curious you know."
"It's none of your concern." he curtly replied
"Well not like it was important anyway. I'm not gonna lose, my Rider will beat your servant super easily." I said to taunt him.
"I don't think so. Do you even know where you are? You are in my bounded field. Meaning, I can do this..." he said, in an ominous way
Rider adopted a defensive stance, ready to defend herself.
"Que mon territoire se défende, que les intrus soient punis!"
As soon as he said this, Rider and I felt a bit weaker.
"Be careful Master, this thing is gulping our Magical Energy." Rider said to me, sounding worried
"Indeed. And it's more effective on servants than humans. Such thing is necessary to avoid tragedies, such as the last war's.." he said, sounding like he was talking to himself.
"What tragedy?" I inquired, curious to know what it is about.
"It doesn't matter, you can ask Ten soon. After you lose that is. Go, Caster."
Suddenly, a girl in a dark purple robe, her face hidden by a black shroud materialised next to Shin with a staff in her right hand. She smirked, beams came from the end of the staff, coming toward Rider.
However, Rider evaded them all, squirming between the beams like a snake. Suddenly, a Dagger, looking like a huge nail, attached to a long chain appeared in her left hand, probably the weapon she uses. The other end of the chain she holds in her right hand is some kind of big metal ring.
She then threw the nail toward Caster at a huge speed, but she cast a spell to shield her before it could touch her. After seeing this, Shin walked a few steps backward, to be sure not to be hit during the fight. A second weapon, similar to the first one, appeared in Rider's left hand. She threw it while Caster was taking care of the other one. The grabbed the end of the chain and moved her hand so the chain rotates all-around Caster, trapping her inside a cage of moving chains. She seemed surprised, but Rider didn't stop there, she pulled the dagger she first threw, grabbed it in midair as it came toward her, then jumped to be above Caster, still trapping her.
Shin looked astounded, staring at my servant as she fell from the sky. She fell so fast I didn't see her landing or hitting the ground, seeing a lot of dust instead.
A few seconds later, the dust dissipated, and I see that Rider didn't touch anything but the ground, leaving a large hole in the ground.
Suddenly, I heard a voice coming from above the ground, so I looked up and saw Caster flying, she seemed annoyed:
"Hmm, looks like I underestimated you, you are pretty fast, however, this will stop."
Rider tried to jump away, but it looked like her movements were slower, as she almost didn't move.
"What's that.. time manipulation?" I said, trying to understand what was going on
"Exactly, she slows down time around your Servant thanks to her own bounded field. And since mine is weakening her, she can't escape. Usually, it would require too much magic, but since she's weak, less energy is needed to maintain it. Now she will use her Noble Phantasm to break the bond between you and your servant." Shin explained, smirking
Caster then landed, took out a small, lighting-shaped purple dagger, and started to walk toward Rider. I was panicked, I didn't want to lose, especially not this early.
"Don't worry, you will just feel a burning sensation on your hand, where the command spells are, like if your servant died." Shin continued
"I won't let it happen! Rider, I order you with a command spell.." I shouted, pointing my left arm toward Rider, concentrating my magical energy in the command spells
As I was saying my order, Shin shouted:
"As if! Liens des ombres, scellez ses pouvoirs!"
Suddenly, rope-shaped shadows appeared from the ground and wrapped around my left arm tightly. I felt a slight burning sensation on my command spells.
"Sorry, but I won't let you do it. Those ties prevent you from using your magical circuits, so you can't use your command spells. Too bad for you. And since you're an amateur, there is no way you know a way to break free. Looks like I win." Shin clarified
It sounded like he was right. I was only a beginner, while he seemed like he had experience. But I couldn't just give up. I didn't have much time. I had to find a way to save my servant.
Caster was walking toward Rider, she was overly confident in her victory. She was sure that Rider wouldn't be able to escape. There is only one thing I could do, I had to create a bounded field myself around Rider, and allow her to move freely.
If Caster slowed down time, all I had to do was to accelerate it. With my free hand, I made the shape of a box around Rider, concentrating all my magical energy in it. Like this, I could quickly create a bounded field, pretty weak, but I didn't have enough time to make a good one.
Magecraft like this requires a lot of concentration and energy. I was just done with the creation of my bounded field when Caster was a few steps away from Rider.
"Time Alter..." I whispered, trying not to get noticed
"What!? Caster, go!" Shin said, panicked, he probably guessed what I wanted to do. Even if he did, it was too late for him. Since I didn't know how much she slowed down the area, I had to use the magic at its uttermost power.
"Square Accel!" I shouted, using almost all the mana I had left.
Suddenly, Rider leaped away, to get away from the danger.
I didn't have time to be relieved, as I fell on the ground, too tired to stand, my left arm still bound. Rider jumped toward me and slashed the ties.
"Since when do you know magecraft like this? It's not something anyone can do. It was pretty reckless and stupid, you could have died if you used it for even one more second. But I guess that's who you are. Just leave already, I have things to do, calls to make." Shin said, sounding annoyed, before turning away to enter his house. Caster disappeared as he entered his house.
Rider pulled me from the ground to carry me, then jumped out of the garden, and ran to the house. I fainted in her arms, hoping to get home soon, to recover.
As I was closing my eyes, I could hear her mutter to herself:
"This was stupid, Master. You could have died. Nevertheless, thank you for saving me.".
