The small husky puppy, Kammy, the Fennec fox cub, Ashley and the Lynx kitten, Anna, all stepped through the door being held open by their Kangaroo adult helper, Victoria. They all looked around the large spacious open plan room in amazement.
It was decorated to appeal to young children, Bright coloured walls, there was a soft play corner and childrens artwork decorated most areas, there were tissue paper arts and crafts stuck on some of the large windows where the morning sun shone through and speckled the room with cheery colours. There were toys and playmats dotted around the place, a dress up corner and another area had a bookcase and beanbags. A set of different toy boxes lined one wall. The whole room took a moment or two to take in, it was so overwhelming for the three friends.
In the top corner two kids, around eight and six sat with a dalmatian helper, they were doing some arts and crafts but from the other end of the room Kammy couldn’t figure out what exactly they were making. Three cubs all around five in age, were sat on cushions and beanbags eating cereal and watching cartoons on a large flat screen on one wall, a male fox sat nearby drinking a cup of coffee and keeping an eye on the kits as they giggled to the show, Ashley recognised Sesame street on the tv. There was a female wolf in the open plan kitchen area spoon feeding a little bundle of fluff in a highchair whilst another cub about four in age sat on a booster seat around a dining table eating oatmeal.
Ashley giggled as she grabbed Kammy’s tail that had been whumping back and forth smacking her in the back of the legs as they stood side by side.
“Happy huh?”
Kammy nodded enthusiastically her voice starting as a whisper but very quickly reaching a crescendo “WaaaaafffFFFFFFLLLLLEEEEESSSS!!!” This caused Ashley and Anna to giggle as the Husky puppy suddenly tore away from the group and went running towards the kitchen area. Ashley quickly followed.
Anna stood there unsure if she should follow, she looked up at their kangaroo nanny who gave her a brief nod of approval at which point Anna tore after her two friends pausing momentarily across the open plan area to pull her dungaree shoulder strap back up where it should be after it just slipped down.
The fox and husky were already clambering up onto empty seats at the dining table. The female wolf spooning the last of the oatmeal into the open mouth of a english sheepdog puppy as Anna clambered up onto a nearby seat. She eyed the pot of oatmeal bubbling gently on the cooker, and then spotted the cereals lined up on the counter, her ears perked up instantly. Cocopops! She knew what she was having. Peering over the top of the dining table, Anna grinned at Kammy.. Ashley was definitely the taller out of the three of them and Anna realised, looking over at her friend that to eat at this table Kammy would probably need a cushion or booster seat.
“Kammy, you’re soo teeny. Are you sure you’re seven, you look like you’re five?” Anna giggled. “Do you need me to fetch you a booster seat?”
Kammy stuck her tongue out at the lynx and then grinned.
“Cushion, booster seat, heck I’ll sit in the damn highchair if it gets me waffles faster.”
Ms Victoria, the kangaroo, arrived as the wolf was plucking the fussy infant pup out of the highchair and rubbing his face down with a wet wipe. The wolf gave her coworker a friendly smile.
“There ya go Vicks. It’s all freed up for you, perfect timing.”
Victoria shook her head as she pointed over to her three cubs sat at the table. “It’s okay Jess. I don’t need it, thanks. Looks like I’ve got waffles to make.”
“WAAAAAAAAAAFFFFFFLES WAFFFFFLES” Kammy was standing on her seat now, banging her paws on the table. Victoria looked over in alarm.
The adult fox chuckled as she settled the infant in the crook of her arm and unbuckled the four year old from his booster seat allowing him to slip down and leave the table.
“I can see you have your paws full, we’re off outside for some fun aren’t we kids?” She shoogled the puppy up and down in her arms who giggled happily as the four year old shot off towards the door that presumably led outside. “See ya later”
Victoria turned her attention to the hyper husky pup.
“Whoa whoa young lady, we do NOT stand on our seats do we, that butt better be on the seat promptish or no waffles AT ALL.”
The threat was enough to make Kammy instantly slam herself back down into the correct sitting position and she straightened her back, clasping her paws together in front of her, trying to look like the perfect dinner guest.
“I can see I’m going to have to keep my eye on you.” As she plucked the young husky pup off her seat and moved her to a nearby chair that had a booster seat attached. Clicking the strap across her lap, this brought Kammy to the same height as Ashley sat next to her. Kammy didn’t complain, she could see better and reach her cutlery now whether she’d be using the cutlery was still up for debate.
The kangaroo smiled as she opened the refrigerator door and pulled out some waffle mix and a jug of fresh orange juice. Pouring three plastic tumblers of orange juice and setting them down in front of the girls.
“There ya go, be careful now. I’ll have your waffles all made in a jiffy.” She turned her back to the girls and focused on the task at hand.
Anna’s ears flattened as she looked over at the cereal. She didn’t want waffles, but felt like she couldn’t really say anything now.
Ashley noticed Annas ears droop. “You alright?”
Anna realised she wouldn’t be able to whisper across the table so slipped down off her chair and moved to the seat next to Ashley, she pulled her dungarees shoulder strap back up from where it had slipped down as she settled down in her new seat the three of them sat in a line. She leant over conspiratorial to Ashley.
“I don’t want waffles. I kinda want Coco Pops.”
Kammy’s ears perked up.
“Get waffles, then give them to me and then ask for cereal.”
Anna looked alarmed.
“How many waffles do you think you can fit in you now that you’re the size of a kid. I bet you don’t even get through one let alone two.”
Kammy growled, a new look of determination on her face she tried to push herself up to stand on her chair again but was stopped by the booster seat strap, her grin faltered for a second but she regained composure crossing her arms and looked over smugly. “Is that a challenge kitten?” She asked, grabbing her tumbler of juice and draining it in one, slamming it back down on the table
Ashley shook her head. These two were always in competition with one another, she’d always acted as the mediator and today was no different, she should step in before it got out of hand.
“MS VICTORIA?” Ashley called over, causing the caretaker to look over.
“Anna wants cereal, is that ok?”
“What? Oh! Yeah sure, of course it is kiddo, you just need to ask. Which cereal?”
Anna felt like Ashley was the negotiator now, so the little lynx leant in and whispered her preference and her Fox friend called out across the table.
“COCO POPS.” Then as an afterthought. “Please, thank you!”
The kangaroo smiled. “Such a polite girl” Victoria grabbed a red plastic bowl and spoon set from the cupboard and brought the box of cereal over with a jug of milk. Placing everything in front of the little lynx.
“There ya go kiddo, knock yourself out, and you two, don’t worry, waffles are imminent.”
Kammy giggled.
“Iniminant..Mimimnan. Waffles are minimenint. That’s a stupid word. It’s not really a word is it? What’s it mean? It’s there to confuse us, right?”
Anna looked over worried as she poured a healthy dose of coco pops into her bowl and splashed milk over them, grabbing the plastic spoon. Kammy was pretty verbose, there’s no way she wouldn’t know that word. Was she just playing up the role of a seven year old? The little lynx pointed the plastic spoon at her friend.
“Imminent? It means it’s happening very very VERY soon.” She eyed Kammy suspiciously.
“Are you SURE you’re not five?”
Kammy stuck her tongue out and was about to answer when a large waffle on a plate was pushed in front of her and she let out an ear piercing squeal of delight, grabbed the small jug of syrup and began carefully filling every hole of the waffle full of sugar as her tail whumped back and forth at a speed Anna had never seen.
Ms Victoria watched resignedly. “With that much sugar you’re going to be bouncing off the ceiling.”
Anna watched Kammy tear into the waffle, mainly with her teeth causing Ms Victoria to step in and push a plastic knife and fork into the puppy’s paws.
“Use your cutlery Kammy, You’re not young enough to get away with poor table manners.”
“But it’s slowin’ me down!” The pup complained between a mouthful of syrupy goodness, her tail losing it’s momentum and then came to rest..
A glare from Ms Victoria was all the husky needed for her to swallow the mouthful, regard the cutlery in her paws and start using them.
“Good girl, much better.” The caretaker praised and Kammy’s tail thumping resumed. She held the camera up and took a pick of the three of them, cheeks bulging with breakfast.
Anna couldn’t get over how childish Kammy was acting. She really had thrown herself into the role. Truthfully whilst Anna was certainly smaller, she still felt very much like her adult self, she’d have to learn to let go like Kammy was doing.
Anna shovelled the coco pops into her mouth and pretty soon drained the chocolatey milk left behind. With the bowl empty she realised Kammy was now struggling to finish her waffle whilst Ashley had cleared her plate.
It was hard to tell if Ashley was acting childish or not. Ashley had always been quite calm, collected and tidy, ever since Anna had known her. So this seemed like how Anna remembered her but she’d always been like that. A sort of calm positive force. The lynx squinted her eyes and stared at her friend trying to work out if maybe she was the only one not feeling the childishness that Kammy was positively exuding.
Anna pointed over at the remaining chunk of waffle as Kammy pushed the plate away from her.
“I told you you wouldn’t be able to finish one.”
Kammy looked down at her half finished waffle cut up a chunk and waved it at her lynx friend.
“Why don’t you help me eat it then? Here I’ll even help feed you. Does baby want numnums” She jabbed it towards Anna’s face causing the Lynx to duck then gather up her plastic cereal spoon and parry the attack.
“NO, I don’t want stupid waffles thank you. Try that again and I’ll just get down from the table, not like you stuck in your little booster seat, maybe it should be me feeding you? Come on hand over the fork.”
Ashley giggled as Kammys fur bristled indignantly. The fennec fox could see this would only escalate so quickly stepped in to diffuse the situation.
“Hey why don’t you put the rest of the waffle in your pocket and save it for later.”
Kammy’s eyes lit up. “That’s a great idea why didn’t I think of it” She made a grab for the leftovers but the plate was suddenly being whisked away.
“I don’t think so kiddo. We don’t want to go attracting ants do we.”
“We don’t?” Kammy wasn't sure what the correct response to this was, an army of ants sounded like a pretty cool thing to have. She didn’t say this out loud though as she could tell by the look on Ms Victoria’s face it was not the answer she was after.
Ashley changed the subject.
“Can we play now?”
Ms Victoria put her hands on her hips. “Show me your paws first.” The three girls showed their paws. Both Anna and Ashley’s were clean, in contrast Kammys were syrupy messes. A couple of hops and Ms Victoria was cleaning Kammy's paws up with a couple of wet wipes she had produced from her kangaroo pouch.
“Do you have lots of stuff in there?” Kammy asked inquisitively, trying to peer into the pouch as the final wipe scooped across her muzzle.
“Lots of stuff.” Ms Victoria confirmed as she unlatched the lap strap of the booster seat holding Kammy hostage. The pup slipped down off the seat her tail wagging as she hopped from foot to foot..
“Can we do ANYTHING?”
Ms Victoria nodded.
“Yup go play nicely girls. I’ll keep my eyes on you and if you need anything just come get me, okay?”
“OKAY!” Kammy and Ashley chimed together running into the middle of the room holding each others paws.
Anna watched them run, she looked at Ms Victoria feeling silly for wasting the kangaroo's time. The caretaker could sense the stiffness in the little lynx.
“You okay sweetie?”
Anna took a big breath and exhaled.
“When we were regressed...It's just our size right? Ashley said we don’t get small mentally. I'm smaller but I don't FEEL smaller..I still feel like grown up me. Is that right? Kammy seems to be really getting into it...Am I doin' it wrong?”
The adult knelt down beside the lynx who was twirling a strand of her short brown hair round and round her finger agitatedly. She placed a large paw on the seven year olds shoulder and then realised the shoulder straps on her dungarees needed a bit of adjustment so went to work fixing those so they fit properly. She talked calmly to the child as she did so.
“Ashley’s wrong if that’s what she told you. Your body regresses first and then it takes a little time for your mind to catch up and adjust, but it takes longer to catch up sometimes. So perhaps your friend is more advanced in her regression journey than you are but you’ll get there. Give it time okay. You don’t need to rush things just enjoy your time with your friends.”
Anna smiled at the adult, feeling glad she had gotten that off her chest. The kangaroo wrapped her arms around the small lynx and gave her a warm hug.
“Now, off you go, your friends are waiting for you, I’ve got dishes to do.”
Anna ran off to where her two friends stood. The fox and husky were looking left and right.
“What do we do first?” Ashley pointed over at a large wooden playhouse. “We could play dolls!”
Anne wrinkled her nose at that. “Noo I don’t wanna play with dolls. Let’s go outside and see if there's stuff to do out there!”
Kammy tried to pull her two friends to the Arts and crafts area “I wanna build stuff out of junk an’ glue an’ stuff!
“No…. Dolls!” Ashley whined.
Anna thought, as she twiddled with her hair.
“Okay. wait. How about we go outside, see what there is cause there might be stuff to build or even more dolls outside. Then we can make stuff out of junk to use with the dolls? That way we can all do what we want.”
Kammy and Ashley nodded in unison. “Sounds like a plan! Let’s go!”
The trio rushed outside. The garden was expansive. Trees and bushes dotted the outer edge and in the middle was a large grassy area. There was a box that Ashley could see had hula hoops and skipping ropes and a number of balls in. She saw the fox lady from the kitchen was now sat in the sandpit with the little english sheepdog puppy helping him to hold a spade well enough to dig a hole, whilst the four year old springer spaniel was busy climbing a nearby slide. There were also three other kids out in the play area, two male ginger cats and a black female one, around the same age as the three girls, The cats were all playing on the swings. Seeing the new arrivals the black cat slipped off the swing and ran up to them.
“Hey? I’m Claire. You wanna play hide and seek? We wanna play but it’s no fun with just three of us? So wanna play with us?”
Kammy, Ashley and Anna exchanged looks and nodded at each other. It was Ashley who answered, she was fast becoming the leader of their little group.
“Sure sounds like fun.”
Claire beamed a huge elated grin. “Great okay. GRAHAM! BEN! WE’RE PLAYIN’!” The two boys jogged over giving the new girls a smile. Claire put up her paw.
“I’ll count to twenty first, everyone go hide, rules are, you can only hide outside. Ready...GO! One...Two...Three…”
The children scattered. Ashley and Anna both made a beeline for the box of toys. It was large enough that one of them could easily hide in there. Anna’s dungarees started to unravel and she stopped to roll the folded cuff back up so she did not trip on it, allowing Ashley the chance to get ahead and flip into the box of toys with a clatter. Anna ran up and peered in hoping the pair could squeeze in together.
“No shoooo! This is my hiding space, you hafta find somewhere else.”
Anna huffed and stomped away from the box, choosing not to tell Ash that her large fennec ears were poking out over the top and were plainly visible to anyone looking in that general direction. That would teach her not to share.
Anna ran to a nearby bush was about to settle herself in when a ginger paw shoved her back out onto the grass landing heavily on her butt with an “oomph”
. “Nu uh, girlie. This is my spot!” Anna could see one of the boy ginger cats was there.
“You didn’t hafta be so bloody rough with me, you jerk” She said growling as she picked herself up off the ground. She was about to really verbally abuse the kid when her ears picked up Claires counting.
“Fourteen ...Fifteen…”
“Oh crap!” Anna looked around in a panic, her eyes resting on a tree. Perfect! Why hadn’t she thought of it before. Taking a run at it, her little kitten claws snikt out and she leapt at the tree scaling it quickly and up into the branches overhead. She sat on a branch feeling smug. No one would find her here.
“Nineteen ...TWENTY! HERE I COME! READY OR NOT!”
Anna could see most of the yard from here and she saw claire look around briefly and then trot over to the box Ashley was hiding in and pull on one of her ears.
“Found you!” Anna giggled quietly hearing a long groan coming from the box.
The orange kitten in the bush was found next and then Kammy was spotted crouched down behind the fox lady in the sandpit. Claire spent the next five minutes searching the garden but the other orange tabby boy was nowhere to be found. Anna wondered where he was, when she heard a rustle above her and looked up. There he was looking down at her. Her hiding place hadn’t been as unique as she thought. He put a finger to his mouth signalling her to be quiet as he slowly climbed down to the same branch as her and sat beside her.
“I’m Ben. I saw what my friend did to you earlier. I’m sorry about that, pushing you like that was mean of him.”
Anna shrugged she was about to dismiss the whole incident when Ben gave her a little shove and suddenly she was plummeting out of the tree. Even as a kitten her reflexes were sharp enough to swivel her body. She landed on all fours with a whump.
She was up in an instant. As Kammy, Claire, Ashley and Graham ran over to the tree having seen the lynx fall.
“Fucking JERK!” She kicked the tree glaring up into its branches.
“Get down here. I’m going to kick YOUR ASS! Push me outta the tree will you, boy am I gonna make you regret that decision! GET DOWN HERE! I swear to god I’ll drag you down here myself!...” Her claws snikt out as she prepared to scramble back up to where the male cat sat smugly in the tree above.
Suddenly she found herself being hoisted by the scruff of her neck, her paws left the floor, her heart pounding, she thrashed backwards trying to dislodge her assailant.
“Calm down. What’s going on here?” Anna didn’t recognise the voice, it was male and deep and angry, she suddenly felt afraid and froze in place as she dangled helplessly in midair. It was Claire that spoke.
“Unka Alex! Anna fell out the tree.”
Anna was placed back onto her paws, the pressure on the back of her neck loosening and she stepped away as the paw let go, she swung around to yell at whomever had picked her up but her voice stuck in her throat as she saw the large male lion tower over her, suddenly her ears pressed against her skull in submission. She knew she was in the right here, but he looked so intimidating. His eyes a piercing blue looked down at her as she tried to shuffle out of his shadow.
“I’m ...sorry” She found herself mumbling into the grass around her feet. Not really knowing why she was apologising.
“I’ll ask again. What happened?”
The lions voice was calmer now, gentler and the lynx looked up, his piercing gaze bore into her. She gulped pointed up the tree, having forgotten the boy’s name.
“The ...The boy up the tree, pushed me. He pushed me outta the tree.”
“DID NOT!”
Came the yell from the tree. The lion sighed and stood. Anna could see that whilst the tree looked impressively tall to her, it had barely been a sapling compared to the adult lion. He reached into the branches and plucked the hidden boy out of the tree, setting him down beside the little lynx.
“Ben, look at me, you’ve already been on the naughty step twice for lying. Look me in the eyes and tell me the truth.”
The kitten boy shuffled from paw to paw looking agitated.
“OKAY OKAY I pushed her ...B..But it was only cause she tried to kiss me.”
Anna growled in disgust.
“Kiss YOU? You wish, you little gobshite.”
She suddenly found herself hoisted up in midair by her scruff again periously close to the Lions face. Her ears drooping and her tail tucked low. She’d done fucked up.
“You Miss, have a foul pottymouth which I wont tolerate, you’re getting a timeout. Who’s your caretaker?”
It was Ashley who spoke up, albeit quietly.
“Ms Victoria...Sir.”
The lion smiled kindly at the fennec fox.
“Thank you. And as for you, Ben.” He grabbed the kitten boy by the scruff too.
“Pushing anyone out of a tree is dangerous, you’re in time out too, third one already this morning, do you like sitting in time out? It’s your time you’re wasting, not mine. Come on the pair of you.”
With that the lion, with a kid’s scruff in each paw, carried the offenders inside.
The rest of the kids stood and watched them disappear their mood visibly dampened. It was Kammy that broke the silence. “What’s a gobshite?” The other children giggled.
Ashley looked at the closed door. “Do you think they’ll be gone long, shall we wait for them to come back? Shall we play on the slide till they return?”
Claire started to run over to the slide. “We can play till they get back.”
*****
Anna sat on the step already a minute of the punishment had passed, she still had four more minutes, it wasn’t really a punishment, sitting on a step, besides she’d been the one pushed out of the tree, why was she on the naughty step. She looked over to the corner where Ben was. His nose was in the corner so he couldn’t see her glaring into the back of his head. She wondered what he was when he was an adult with an attitude like that, little brat pushing her like that.
The lion, Uncle Alex was it? Came into view and she hastily looked down at her paws. He had told Ms Victoria about her swearing and together they sent her to time out. It wasn’t fair. Suddenly she noticed for the first time that her palms were grazed and slightly bleeding, probably from the fall. Oddly seeing the graze made them sting, she hadn’t noticed the pain before but she guessed that’s because her adrenaline had been in full flow at the time. She sucked on her paw trying to lick the wound. She tried to ignore the shadow as it fell over her. He scared her, made her feel helpless. A paw reached into her line of vision and gently took her wrist. Pulling her paw away from her tongue. Her ears flattened. She’d been behaving on the step, what more did he want?
“You’re hurt, come on let’s get you fixed up” His voice was back to being surprisingly gentle and she stood, letting him scoop her up in his arms and carry her. It felt weird being carried. She knew she instantly liked it and she leant into him, that fear of him making way for a new feeling of safety. Maybe she had gotten him wrong in her first impression.
He carried her into a side room that was the bathroom, she noticed three plastic potty chairs along one wall and how the sinks and toilets were kids sized rather than adult sized. He set her down on a padded waterproof table and pulled a nearby drawer open to reveal a first aid kit. She swung her legs as she watched him pull out some cotton wool pads and some disinfectant.
“This is going to sting a little. I can tell you’re a brave kitten though so I’m not expecting any tears or fussing ok?”
Anna nodded instantly determined not to let the lion down. She was a big girl after all. He dabbed at the grazed with the disinfected soaked pad. Anna winced slightly and sucked through her teeth, it did sting but she could handle it. A few moments later he was finished, the blood cleaned away. Her paws felt better already.
“There. All done. Very brave you were too. Have we finished with the bad words?”
Anna nodded.
“What do we say?”
Anna looked confused for a moment then realised he was expecting an apology.
“Sorry, Mr Alex It won't happen again.”
He smiled as he adjusted the shoulder straps and added a fold in the legs of her dungarees to make everything tidy and even, tousling her hair before plucking her off the baby changing table she had been sat on and plopping her back on her feet.
“Okay, you little rugrat, get out and go play with your friends. That's the last I want to be scolding you. Got it?”
Anna nodded hurriedly, escaping from the room before he realised she’d missed the other four minutes of step time of her punishment. He watched her run out of the room, his face fell in concern wondering what had been so terrible in her adulthood.
Anna catapulted outside, searching for her friends and found them chasing each other around the slide and climbing frame. She jogged over as the game came to a halt when the others spotted her. It was Ashley who got to her first and pulled her into a hug.
“Gosh when I saw you fall out of the tree I thought you must have broken a bone or something!”
Anna pushed herself out of the embrace, giggling.
“Nah I’m tougher than that although I did graze my paws” She showed Ashley her patched up grazes, though they were already hard to spot, the lion had done a good job patching her up. “See, barely a scratch.” She poked at where the grazes had been, it barely even hurt any more.
Kammy ran up. “The way you plummeted outta that tree was awesome, like a real life spiderman...Or something like that. Way cool!”
Claire nodded. “Yeah really cool, though sorry about Ben, that was a jerky thing to do he’s my older brother, I’d forgotten how much of a jerk he was when he was younger.”
Kammy pulled Anna and Ashley over to her. “Hey can we make junk stuff yet? We all get to do the thing we want right? Is it time for arts and crafts?”
Anna tugged her paw out of her friends grasp. “Let me just have one shot on the slide okay then we can go in” She ran over, effortlessly scaled the ladder and slid down the slide, running back over to her friends.
“Okay. I’m good to go now, but later we gotta come back and go on the swings, maybe after lunch or something deal?”
Ashley nodded. “Sounds fair. Let’s go in.”
The three waved bye to Claire and Graham and headed indoors just as Ben was coming back out again. Anna ignored him as they walked past and back into the building, making a mental note to avoid him for the rest of her stay here.
Inside they made their way to the arts and crafts table. The adult dalmation they saw earlier was still there.
“Hey girls, you must be Ashley, Anna and Kammy right? Welcome. I’m in charge of the arts and crafts section of the room, gotta make sure no one eats the glue or gets too much glitter in their fur, that stuff is a nightmare to get out. You can call me Casey. We’ve got all sorts to make here. There’s some pictures you can colour in and cut out to make a flapping bird, or we can make wiggly worm sock puppets, there’s card and wool for making pompoms.
“Can we make a Buggy for the dolls?” Kammy cut in excitedly.
Ashley looked at the wool. “I dunno, I quite like the idea of making pompoms.”
“I wanna make a sock puppet!” Anna chimed in then saw Kammy’s rejected face. “Hey the sock puppet can be the dolly’s pet snake!” She added helpfully. Kammy looked unconvinced. “I’m not sure my dolly would want a pet snake.” Anna undeterred picked up a sliced ping pong ball and started scribbling an eye pupil on it. “Well my dolly is gonna be a snake collector.” Ashley had already started weaving wool around a pompom template. “If I make lots of pompoms they could be like a soft cushion for the dollies to sleep on.”
Kammy sighed a huge over the top sigh. “FIIIIINE!” I’ll make the pushchair then, all by myself” She pointed an accusing finger at the adult at the table. “You’ll help me of course.” The dalmatian laughed. “I’ll certainly try”
Over the course of the next hour the three sat at the table contentedly creating arts and crafts. Kammy had managed to stick some wheels on a large cardboard box with the help of the adult caretaker and trying to make a harness to go inside.
Ashley had filled the base of the box so far with three brightly coloured pompoms and was concentrating on making a fourth, and Anna had managed to put together two sock puppet one green one with ping pong balls for eyes and the other was red and white striped with googly eyes. She threaded them onto her paws and up her arms.
Ashley suddenly stopped her pom pom weaving.
“Errr...Ms Casey? Where’s the toilet.”
Casey put down the paintbrush she had been using and got up. “I’ll take you cupcake, we don’t let the kids loose in there by themselves these days, not after some little terror blocked the sinks and flooded the place in order to float rubber ducks on the floor.” She took Ashley by the hand. “I’ll be gone five minutes.” She didn't say anything else but the tone of her voice made it perfectly clear that the husky and Lynx were to behave whilst she was gone. Of course that was wishful thinking.
Ashley and Casey were gone less than thirty seconds before Kammy had scooped up one of the glitter vials.
“Hey. How much do I have to pay you to eat this?” Anna looked up at the blue glitter being waggled in her face.
“What? I’m not eatin’ that.”
“Well ...Just lick it then, you’d have a blue glittery tongue to go with your snake arms. You’re practically an x-man at that point right? Magic licking powers”
“I don’t want magic licking powers.” Anna tried to concentrate on picking up a pair of safety scissors with her snake wrapped paws, ignoring Kammy’s request, but Kammy wasn’t giving up easily.
“Look. You eat the blue, I’ll eat the green. Come on, it'll be funny, Ashley will find it hilarious, you know she will.” Anna sighed, pulled one of the snakes off her paw and snatched the blue glitter vial off of her friend.
“Okay, I can see you’re not gonna take no. On the count of three we do this together. Anna popped the top off of hers and Kammy did the same.
“One…..Two…..” The two grinned at each other poised for the trigger. “ THREE!” Kammy threw her head back and slammed the whole vial of glitter into her mouth. Anna immediately burst out laughing, Kammy actually did it? She really was gaining the naivety of a small child, She should have known Anna would never have done that. Suddenly Kammy coughed, unable to swallow and spluttered glitter all over the table and all over herself and Anna. There was silence for a moment as the pair surveyed the damage. Then a light chuckle then a full blown giggle fit, Kammy Punched Anna in the arm. “Hey CHEAT! No FAIR. That’s a lousy trick. OH! OHOH!” She stuck out her tongue.
“Ish it g’een?” She asked trying to look cross eyed down her snout. Anna broke out into hysterics, she could barely contain herself.
“YES! YES IT’S GREEN!”
“What on earth?” Anna twisted round in her seat to see Ms Victoria hopping over looking sternly at the glitter covered pair. Anna still held the open vial of blue glitter and she quickly squished the stopper back in place. The kangaroo looked at Kammy’s cross eyed expression and even her own stern expression melted away and she gave out a chuckle.
Casey appeared holding onto Ashleys paw. “Oh goodness. I was gone less than five minutes, How did the pair of you make this much mess?” Kammy stuck out her green tongue. Casey looked dejected. “Ah. Yes. I see.”
Ashley returned to her place on the table and gathered her wool back up. Ms Victoria sighed. “Yeah there’s no getting round it, you two need a bath, come on.” She beckoned for the husky and lynx to come to her and reluctantly the two left the arts and crafts table.
“But what about the dolly buggy I was making.” Kammy whined as she was grasped by the wrist.
“You should have thought about that before you made such a mess, by the time I get you both clean and dry it’s going to be lunch time and then it’s nap time after lunch so you’re not going to be able to finish that now till at least 2 this afternoon.”
“Well just let me finish it now, come on I’ll be done in twenty minutes.” Kammy tried to dig her paws into the soft plush carpet, but Victoria was bigger and stronger.
Victoria shook her head and scooped the young husky up, carrying her under her arm.
“This isn’t up for debate young lady, actions have consequences so your arts and crafts are going to have to wait.”
Kammy kicked and flailed but the kangaroo ignored her until they got to the bathroom and she settled Kammy back down on her paws and turned her attention to a large bathtub where she turned on the taps and began pouring bubblebath into the tub.
“I don’t WANT a bath.” The puppy stomped her paw and tried to fight the large kangaroo off as she was systematically undressed until she stood there naked yapping indignantly all the while. Ms Victoria didn’t say a word she just had a slight smile on her face, ignoring the tantruming husky pup.
Anna quite liked baths but the running water suddenly alerted her to an urgent need for a toilet break.
“Ms Victoria...I’m just gonna use the loo.” Anna made her way to the cubicle but Ms Victoria stopped her and unpopped the two buckles holding up her dungarees.
“You might find that easier.” Anna hadn’t asked for help but she muttered a thanks and shuffled off to relieve herself.
Kammy was still huffing.
“Don’t think I’m getting in that bath, what if I WANT to stay all green glittery. I paid to be here, I’m paying your wages, you should do what I say.”
Victoria laughed at that. “You won't be the first bratty little kid to say that to me, I can be a friend and guide or I can make things tricky for you Ms Ridge. Don’t forget who gets to pick your clothes out for you. You didn’t like the outfit you’re wearing now but I’m sure I could find worse ones for you. So you best behave or I’ll find the frilliest silliest outfit I can find for you.”
Kammy stopped mid huff, this was probably true, she calmed down her huffing to folded arms and a silent sulk as Anna came out of the toilet and washed her paws. She hadn’t buckled her straps of the dungarees back up partly because she knew she was about to get in the bath but truthfully because she had also tried to buckle them up and found them much more difficult than she expected them to be. It flustered her a bit that she couldn’t seem to loop the buckle through the button but in the end decided to just forget about trying and had shuffled back out into the cubical, holding the dungarees up.
“Come on, you need to get undressed too little one.” Ms victoria cooed as she turned the tap off and stuck her paw into the tub testing the temperature of the bubbly water.
“Isn’t Kammy getting bathed first?” Anna pointed at her naked friend, not particularly embarrassed because she looked just like a little kid so there was nothing to see.
“No silly i’m bathing you together, now come along, kit off now please.” Before Anna could move to drop her dungarees Ms victoria had moved in and was effortlessly stripping the lynx down as she had done with Kammy. Soon the two kids were naked. Anna stood next to Kammy shoulder to shoulder looking at the full bubble bath. That’s when she suddenly realised they were the same height. When did that happen? She had been taller than Kammy earlier. Before she could say anything the pair were picked up and unceremoniously plonked into the bath. Water being poured over both their heads.
The pair were handed some bath toys, and the scrubbing commenced. It was odd being washed by someone else, Anna guessed her own mother must have done this at some point but she truly didn’t remember it ever happening, the kangaroos fingers massaged the shampoo into her hair and Anna let out a contented purrrr. Once the cleaning part was over the two played who could dive under the water the longest and submarines with the rubber ducks. It was only when they were plucked out of the bath and put back on the bathroom tiled floor that Anna looked at the heights again.
“Kammy ...Are you growing taller again already?” Anna looked eye to eye with the husky. “Or maybe I’m getting smaller?”
Kammy looked blankly at her friend. “What do you mean? You’ve always been at this height silly, ever since we met” The puppy tilted her head looking confused at her kitten friend.
Ms Victoria pulled the plug out of the bath and the gurgling drain caused the husky to jump in fright and start yapping at the swirling water. “The drain monster. It can’t get you if you’re outta the bath but if you’re in there, you can get sucked down and it’ll eat you. QUICK QUICK ms V! There’s a ducky needs saving QUICCCK!” Kammy flailed in panic as the rubber duck drifted towards impending doom, but the kangaroo swiftly scooped it out of the bath and handed it to the husky.
“There, you keep it safe whilst I get you both dried.”
“Phew! “ Kammy held the ducky aloft triumphantly “That was almost a disaster. Well done Ms V!”
Ms Victoria chuckled. “I’m glad I’ve finally done something right, huh”
Kammy shook her head. “Nu uh, don’t forget, the waffles were pretty good ...Even if you didn’t let me keep the last bit.”
The pair were towel dried for a while then the fur-drier came out and Miss Victoria got to work drying down the two kids. Soon their coats were fluffy and sleek and a soft brush down everything was in place. The adult produced a new set of clothes. A light blue smocked dress with three small white ducks embroidered on the chest for the lynx and a bright t-shirt and shorts set with a red gingham theme for the husky. Kammy looked at the ensemble, much more her style and she nodded a calm approval to the dark brown Kangaroo.
“Your tripadvisor review is definitely improving.” Kammy gave the kangaroo a thumbs ‘three quarters of the way’ up.
Ms Victoria stood up straight and pointed the girls towards the door.
“Go on, out. I have to tidy up in here. It’s almost lunchtime, try to stay clean.”
Kammy skipped out of the door, Anna following close behind. She was convinced she had shrunk some more, but she STILL didn’t feel any more or less childish. Maybe they’d given her the wrong dose after all or maybe she just wasn’t reacting to the treatment properly. It made her feel left out. She wanted the giddy euphoria that certainly Kammy seemed to be displaying. That carefreeness that was only really achieved through childhood.
A dinner bell rang as she stepped into the main open plan area and suddenly children were rushing in from outside and scrambling up from their cushions around the TV and all heading towards the dining table which Anna could see what now stacked with a number of packed lunch boxes. As Anna approached she saw each one had a tag, a child’s name attached to each on. She approached the table and stood on tiptoes to peer over the top at the rapidly dwindling packed lunch boxes. She looked around for one with her name on it.
“HOI! ANNA! “ The lynx’s ears perked up and she turned to see Ashley waving a lunch box at her across the room. “I’ve got yours and Kammys over here, let’s have a picnic!”
Anna abandoned the table and headed over to the Fennec fox who was readjusting one of the playmats she had dragged over from elsewhere in the room. She handed Anna a lunchbox and the lynx looked down at it. It had a spaceship on the front but that wasn’t what concerned her.
“errr...Ashley?” The Fennec looked up. “Yu-huh?”
“This says Abigale on it, Not Anna.” The lynx held the box up and pointed at the tag. “Let me have a look at yours!” The fennec showed Anna the other two lunchboxes in her possession. “Ben and Jasmine?” These aren’t even close to your names. I’m not sure you can just help yourself to anyone's food, some folk might have allergies and junk.” Anna took the three lunchboxes just as Kammy was running up.
“Whatcha doin’ with our food kittycat?”
Anna shook her head. “Come on, let's all go get the proper lunch boxes.” Ashley shook her head, her large ears flopped back and forth. “No. I’ll stay here at the picnic spot or some other kids might steal it.”
Anna nodded. “Fair enough, come on Kammy lets go recon the food site.” Kammy perked up and stood to attention, saluting. “ Yes ma’am. ”
The two kids jogged back over to the table Kammy pointed to one of the orange tabby cat boys crying and Anna’s heart sank, one of the packed lunches in their possession was Ben’s, that's probably why he was crying. He was being comforted by his caretaker, the big lion. Anna trotted up to him holding out the box.
“I’m sorry, my friend took it by mistake. This is yours.” The boys sobbing instantly turned to sniffling as he reached out gingerly and took it.
“See. I told you it would turn up, now no more crying okay?” The lion stood, towering over the kids and Anna involuntarily took a step back.
“It really really was an accident. I’m super sorry”
The lion chuckled a deep rumbling laugh.
“It’s okay kiddo, no harm done.”
Kammy meanwhile was grabbing other lunchboxes, truthfully any ones she could reach. How did folk tell whose was whose anyway? She walked up to Anna and handed her a new box. Anna looked down at it. “No. Kammy. No what are you doing? This one’s Claires. LOOK.” She pointed at the tag that clearly read the black cats name. “You can read that, right?”
Kammy shrugged looking at the squiggles. “How do I know you’re not just making that up to make yourself look smarter than me?”
Anna looked at her husky friend incredulously. “Are you honestly saying you can’t read that?”
Anna looked at the table and spotted Kammy’s box, she climbed up onto one of the seats and grabbed it, slipping back down with the retrieved goods and pushing the box into Kammy's paws.
“Here. This one is yours”
Anna had to go round the other side of the table to find hers and Ashleys, it was weird she was the only one who seemed to be able to read, but at least she was being useful to the group. Soon the pair were trotting back to the fennec fox who was diligently patrolling their established picnic site.
“Food acquired” The lynx claimed triumphantly as she handed over Ashleys box of food.
“Let the scarfing, commence!”
The trio opened up their boxes. The friends compared lunches. Kammy traded her jam sandwich for Anna’s ham one, and Ashley traded her blackcurrent juice box with Kammy’s strawberry one they challenged one another to see who could shred their cheese string the finest and who could eat their yoghurt the fastest and pretty soon the food was all gone and the lunchboxes gathered up by the adults in the room. Some of the playmats were cleared away and a bunch of sunny looking small sleeping bags were pulled out of a cupboard and placed in rows.
“Okay, children. It’s nap time now, pick a sleeping bag and settle down” The female fox who had been out in the sandbox earlier called out to all the children.
Anna had to admit she was feeling actually pretty exhausted, a full belly and the running around she had done so far today, it felt like she had crammed a lot into this morning already so she didnt fuss as she crawled into one of the small sleeping bags with a happy sun on the front.
Kammy climbed into the one to the left of her and Ashley into the one on the right. As curtains were drawn around the room to block out the early afternoon sunshine
“I still think it’s pretty dumb we even hafta HAVE naps. I could be finishing my arts and crafts right now.”
Kammy grumbled but yawned half way through her complaint. Anna looked over at Ashley she smiled tiredly as her eyes began to droop.
“Hey. Ash.”
“Mmhmmm?” The fennec mumbled sleepily.
“Thanks for bringing us here. It is pretty cool.”
“No worries Annie. Glad you could come along See you when we wake up.”
“See yoo, sleep well”

Oh? Is a certain little kitten getting smaller? That does not bode well (It totally bodes well for our entertainment though!) And I have a sneaking suspicion that Kammy's about to start shrinking as well! With Ashley not being too far off!
I actually have another theory what will happen with poor, little Annie. I don't want to spoiler by accident, so I will not write it here.
I have a different theory as well... even though you didn't say what it might be.... I have a feeling that we are both thinking of the same thing happening to Annie, lol!!
Sure, we can do that..... but right now, this puppy needs his nap time, lol. You can send me your theory via note and when I wake up...... I will send you my idea. :)
That's more reading in one post here than I've read in all of school!
OMG! This story by you Star and drawing by Kammy is absolutely perfection!!! I really love the waffle scene with Kammy wagging her tail, beating her paws on the table while getting waffles, and Kammy and Anna saying that they should feed each other the rest of the waffle, how Anna plays hide and seek, climbs on top of the tree, Ben pushes Anna off of the tree while Anna curses (definitely describes what Star would do in that situation, lol), how Anna doesn't feel like that she is regressed in mind (while Ashley and Kammy already regressed some), the bath scene with Anna and Kammy, and how Kammy cannot read the lunch boxes with the kid's name on it the best!!!
Your talent, creativity, humor, passion, originality, and the pacing of your stories as a writer is absolute perfection and off the charts good! You are definitely one of my favorite writer that influences and gives me the confidence to write age regressiom stories. I would be lucky to have even half the talent as you as a writer. Thank you so much for posting this. Reading this really made my day and I can't wait to see the next part of this super dupee funny, cute, and interesting story!!! :)

Yeah, that's the little red flag. We can all see where this is going.
"They were watching cartoons" "Ashley recognized Sesame Street"
Sesame Street isn't a cartoon.
Sesame Street isn't a cartoon.
When Kammy said, "WaaaaFFFFFLLLLLEEEEESSSSS", the first thing I thought of was that infamous Teen Titans Go episode.
Lucky Star, or Anna. I can't eat sugary cereal for breakfast without feeling guilty anymore.
So...if I was here, and I returned to my seven-year-old self, physically and mentally, would I lose control over my autism again?
If I went back to being seven I'd lose control over my bladder when asleep. XD
Nah don't be. Lol if I could go back to being younger I'd choose to be 4 years old XD.
Oddly I've never seen that movie so didn't know. I just named him after my favourite uncle
Oddly no. he was actually named after a boy at my old primary school
OMG YOU DIDNT UPLOAD FOR AWHILE AND I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD THANK GOD YOUR NOT IM SO HAPPY NOW AND IS SHINE OVER OR IS IT GOING TO CONTINUE I HOP IT IS
That's a very short while unless you've got the site set to hide NSFW images (in which case you're missing out on the last 13 pages of Shine)
I tried setting the site to allow me to view mature images, but it wouldn't let me because I'm not 18 yet.
I knew she wasn't dead because I sent her a few messages within that period. I asked her to let me know what was happening within those pages of Shine since I couldn't see them and didn't want to be confused, and I also asked her about some guy who told me she wasn't a very good person.
My little kitten also thought shine was over. She was in the process of trying to make a +18 account to view NSFW when I walked in. Anyone have an idea of what I should do besides take the phone for a while?
Truthfully if she's a minor she shouldn't be doing that. The protections are there for a reason and there's some pretty extreme content on this site .
Nothing much has happened the past 12 or so pages they don't really add to the plot. The next page coming up will be safe Nd back rolling with the next day so just tell her to be a little more patient

Yes, that is why I was mad at her. She definitely won’t be viewing the comic for the next little while. At least for the next 3 pages.
I absolutely adore this story. You and kammy should colab like this more often. You two make a great team. ^^
i have a feeling they're going to regress into 6 to 5 year olds just a hunch
