Thanks! Most of it isn't very thoroughly considered, and it feels pretty overexposed, but like I say, this was more just a quick sketch done out of necessity to paint something ^_^

Which effect? The marbled bar top? It's a sheet of ornamental paper overlayed onto the basic shape of the bar ^_^

i was thinking at that global...saturated (?) effect on the whole pic! You used a tool or two, or did you just go a tit?

Oh, I used a Gradient Map for most of the color, then played with texture layers and tweaked the result with Color Balance and Selective Color adjustment layers ^_^

What I like about it is that it doesn't look posed and it is a slice of life ... or grab of cupcake. It's got a nice spontaneous feel to it. If I had a restaurant I'd certainly hang this pic on the wall.

I'm definitely a Hopper fan, so I guess it's possible I was influenced? I remember being at the National Gallery in DC when they had a huge Turner show up and a little Hopper show in a side gallery, and I totally spent more time in the Hopper exhibit than the Turner one. Huge, epic, expansive, legendary pieces just aren't as interesting to me as thoughtful, human snapshots ^_^

In this case, I went with, "Turn off all the lights, except for a couple of magical overhead spotlights."

Well, sometimes rough works. It somehow gives the feel of pastel on very rough paper, a nice rough grit and grain effect.
