Hello Readers!
My first post of this new decade is dedicated to a major historic milestone. It is for the centennial of January 17th, 1920, the day the 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution took effect. To put it simply, it was the official start of Prohibition. It was the law that helped make the Roaring Twenties in America so unique and well-remembered.
Here are my girls Lauren Glass and Vicki Johnston, dressed in gangster attire and operating a bootlegging outfit in a warehouse-sized garage. In the depths of night. They protect themselves and guard the liquor stash with Thompson M1921 sub-machine guns, the classic ‘Tommy Guns’ that defined the era. Yes, I’m aware of this anachronism, but remember, this is really 2020.
What really existed in 1920 are the vehicles barely visible here. At left is an REO Speedwagon truck, and other is a Peerless Four-Door Sedan, Model 56.
Note: Until a moment ago, I really thought Prohibition began on January 16, 1920. It turned out that the 18th Amendment was RATIFIED on January 16, 1919, allowing one year (and one more day) for persons and businesses to adjust and prepare for the coming legal cessation of alcoholic beverages. Nevertheless, I’m submitting this just before the stroke of Midnight, Eastern US Standard Time.
Another Note: Yes, it’s also a feet pic. They’re really fun to draw and look at!
