This is a tribute to a good friend of mine, Mythkaz. they went on to draw multiple versions of the same concept, that is Princess Daisy from the Super Mario universe changed into a lamia/naga, a serpent-woman. One of these variants was one in which she was hypnotized, looking slightly menacing as a result. This gave me an idea and thus this short story was born.

Daisy had really done it this time.
Exploring the forbidden and secret palace of Tutankoopa wasn't exactly the best of ideas for starters, but doing it ahead of the group was really a boneheaded move. If she had been smart, she'd have waited for people to finish their preparations, to get in together as a group and then if that little accident had happened she'd have received help immediately. No, instead she went on her own, too excited at the idea of discovering ancient artifacts, gold and adventure to understand conventional wisdom. She looked up at the hole in the floor which she had been walking on, evaluating the distance at about 30 meters high as she tried to see if there was a way to climb up high. There were pillars, yet they were too large to get a grip on and climb atop them traditionally. The walls were too far away to wall-jump and there were no pipes either, which meant that she was stuck there as she pouted. Most certainly someone would arrive there and rescue her, but she wished to save herself for once, to be fully capable and independent. As such, instead of staying put, she decided to venture a bit on her own.
The moment she came near a torch, it lit up instantly, light not being an issue at the very least as some tapestry and wall inscriptions seemed to tell the tale of Tutankoopa, his past feats and what-not. Toadsworth would probably be boring everyone with long-winded stories of past events, discoveries, their proper context, the temperature, what he had for breakfast that day and yadda yadda yadda. She was here for thrills and even in her mind she found the old toad to be an utter bore. Plenty of other beings, some of them recognizable as turban-wearing Shy Guys, golden headdress-wearing Goombas and so forth. Each seemed to be carrying some kind of urn with them, larger than them and each sporting different patterns on them. Offerings for Tutankoopa? Food and drink for a party? A competition for pottery? Who knew as this did not help Daisy get out of there in the slightest. She advanced further, choosing to ignore all of this in favor of finding something of real use as eventually she looked up and saw exactly what she was hoping for.
Floating blocks.
It was always pretty funny to see those bizarre things be there, as if they popped out from nowhere only to be smashed either to pieces or to reveal a mystery item within. It wasn't exactly amusing now, though, as she saw those with a question mark on their side, indicating that something could be found within as she jumped and punched up, hoping that she'd find something good. A leaf to get a cape, a feather for a tanuki suit, a propeller hat even, just anything that would allow her to jump higher, to give her a chance to escape from this hidden basement. At first she went on to pile everything up as she looked at what she got. There was a super mushroom, a fire flower, an ice flower curiously enough...but nothing that she knew she would need. What good would a fire or ice ball would do in this specific instance? Nothing as far as she was concerned as she was about to venture further, yet a rattling and hissing sound startled her as she turned around, ready to fight. There were no snakes, however, no long tail as the sounds seemed to originate from her pile of items as she approached, about to strike at any moment and she then went on to indeed discover something interesting: a new kind of power-up mushroom. It was brown and beige, almost spotted in a very indistinct way, looking as if it possessed scales as it had a little tail and a rattle connected to it. Grabbing it and inspecting it, the mushroom was like a mixture of a snake and a fungi, which she found amusing yet she did not know its properties as she eyed this power-up warily.
“I don't suppose you could just tell me what you do, right?” she asked, half-hoping sincerely that it could just talk for some reason. With no response whatsoever, which was to be expected, she instead looked around and began to think of reasons why she shouldn't do what she was about to do. This “serpent mushroom”, or serpent shroom for a shorter alliterative version, could very well be poisonous. It might do nothing and taste bad. Yet, this was indeed a discovery as Daisy looked back at the ceiling and then at her options as she gulped, knowing full well what her next course of action would be before she'd even think otherwise. “Well...here goes nothing.”
She took a bite out of it as the mushroom went on to get inert, its powers transferred to her body as she did feel a change within her. Whenever they used a power-up, they could sense some energy and capabilities being transferred, elements being infused within. Now, though, she felt a stretch within and without her legs as a warmth spread toward them. Her flesh quickly fused together below, turning into a goop which then went on to get solid and for a long tube which spread and got thinner the longer it went. Scales appeared, replacing her skin as she felt her muscles stretch, her understanding of the situation beginning to grow as she knew right now that this was a serpent's tail, a rattle appearing at the tip of it to cement this fact. This was, however, not the sole thing that changed.
Sometimes, one's garments could change color or see accessories be added, yet this time it was the opposite as Daisy's dress was simply gone. She was naked from her shoulder to her waist as she felt somewhat self-conscious now despite being completely alone beneath the palace. However, soon she found out that her modesty was respected if only a little as scales had grown on top of her breasts, partially covering them as she sighed, which turned quickly into a hiss as her tongue was now forked, much to her surprise. For one visible change, there seemed to be a few unseen as Daisy began to slither, doing so as if she had done so all her life, the rattle going on to shake and produce rather hard to ignore sound as she felt plenty of new muscles, this new body of hers actually rather easy to manipulate now. She had great difficulties to jump now, her weight being considerable, but her long tail did seem to be rather apt at grabbing things, coiling them up very easily. She didn't quite know what she'd do with this, but it was indeed something that seemed adventurous, a revelation of a new type of mushroom, perhaps an ancient and forgotten kind. However, as she got lost in thought, she began to return back to her predicament and looked at the pillars, then back at her tail and got an idea.
“Maybe my tail is actually long enough for me to use it to climb up!” she said, beaming with optimism as she got there, still making a ruckus due to her tail as she'd pick up a regular power-up with her just in case, if only to return back to her normal form. As fun as this was, she did not want to be stuck like this for longer than necessary. She went on to twirl her tail around the pillar, managing to coil it around tightly with some length to spare as she saw that she could indeed get out of there with her own efforts, which she was thankful for. About to start her ascent, she heard a few steps and some grinding sound nearby as she turned around only to see a Shy Guy with a turban close, sitting on a little rug beside a large jug. Before she could react either by saying anything, attacking or even choose to ignore him, the Shy Guy went on to get a pungi flute out of his belt as he entered the tip inside the opening in his mask where his mouth was as he began to play. Upon hearing the first few notes, a melody was set and by the it was already too late as Daisy felt her heart skip a beat.
That melody is so beautiful...
It hadn't even been a few seconds that she was already charmed, under some kind of mystical spell as her tail loosened up and began to rattle again, as if responding to the flute. She began to hiss, her tongue darting out of her mouth to the beat of the melody as it got repetitive, yet never seemed to get slower of faster. It was even, mesmerizing and downright hypnotic as Daisy began to forget her predicament, how she got there, what she was trying to do and where she was even. All that mattered was that she was hearing this sweet music and nothing else. Things lose their definition, their focus, as she slithered slowly toward the source of all those beautiful sounds, wishing to be closer to them in order to hear them even better. Something within her told her to do that, drove her to that impulse of feeding this need for that flute.
As she got closer, she coiled her tail beneath her, creating a little base for her to stand upon as she rattled and hissed, losing herself to a beastly side that she never possessed prior to eating the serpent shroom. Yet now she felt elation, peace-of-mind as she just listened, losing control of her body but also of her perceptions and thoughts. All of this should terrify her, make her fight for her life and her freedom, yet she did nothing, caught in the spell of this flute-player and its entrancing melody. Soon, she began to sway, her body reacting in a makeshift dance, as if presenting herself in a tantalizing fashion before the Shy Guy, completely forgetting her priorities and who she was. A princess would never deign to do this, yet now it was her instinct of a more serpentine nature that drove her to this, lost in the allure of the music.
The Shy Guy observed her carefully, still playing the flute as he nodded, sending a signal as a few other Shy Guys, all dressed like him, went on to get out from the dark corners of the room, waiting their turn patiently before this moment. They brought small chests, each filled with items as the first one that was brought up was another of those serpent shroom. It was brought toward her mouth as the Shy Guys climbed on her, the lightly swaying and dancing snake-princess seemingly not minding this in the slightest. Her forked tongue touched the mushroom and by reflex she took a bite out of it as by then she began to glow a little, charged by even more energy. Her scales, which were brown and beige, turned into shades of gold, gaining a metallic and lustrous sheen as she gained cuffs around her wrists, a band near her rattle, a sash made of coins with a red loincloth attached, a belly gem and a diadem made of jewels and golden beads. A few bracelets adorned her upper arms, scimitars appeared in her hands as she twirled them around, careful to not harm a single Shy Guy as they quickly went on to flee the scene. All but one, in fact, as another one came in to attach accessories to her ears, covering them as he rubbed those bejeweled trinkets, activating their power. By now, she was hearing the same melody from both the flute and those large ear accessories as it began to reverberate not just in her body, but in her mind as well.
The melody told of a story, of a serpent guard which were servants to those close to Tutankoopa, guarding precious allies with their life. They were devoted slaves, warriors and entertainers both as they were turned into thralls thanks to a melody which they could not get enough of. They were obedient, completely hypnotized and submitted to the will of the great Tutankoopa and their servants, doing a great many deeds at his behest. She was now one of them, a serpent warrior who would help to make this age return as she would be instrumental in this. She had no life prior to this, no other duties than to obey the flute player and Tutankoopa. She knew this deep down and accepted it, the melody having long since turned her mind into pliant mush, exceptionally vulnerable to commands and suggestions. She hissed, happy that she was now filled with the bliss of servitude as the sound of a large urn grinding against the ground shook her away from her trance slightly. Yes, this would be her home from now on, this she knew. She slithered toward it, lifting her golden tail and then inserting it within. Right now and then, the urn began to activate itself as it sucked her in, going on to make something not unlike swallowing and absorbing her, attuning her to some unknown and ancient magic. This was not scary, though, but enticing, the music keeping her quiet and content as she hissed some more, swaying to the beat as she got further and further inside the urn. Then, she disappeared completely, her body essentially being one with the urn now. The neutral and banal colors of the object went on to shift, turning into orange and yellow, with a daisy pattern on its side so as to identify just who was inside it from now on. The flute player stopped as all the Shy Guys went on to carry the urn back to their master, to the one this new guard would serve...
As Tutankoopa had gained a powerful and beautiful ally on this day as Princess Daisy was no more, replaced by something entirely different.
