Nuka Kaamu is a strange one. Raised in the slum that is Happytown by an overprotective but also perhaps over-loving mother, he has developed an odd kind of false-front bravado and attempted suave persona, a strange melange of personalities made of teen rebellion and the lessons of Taka Pride papering over what he really is, a deeply shy, rather kind and retiring mama's cub. After the incident that saw him injured by being tasered and having his head torn open by broken pieces of street, he got a measured portion of the lawsuit settlement that allowed him to travel to his favorite place in the city, Vine County, AKA Tanukitown, the Asian-town area of Zootopia. It's the origin of his absolute favorite band, the kawaii metal group Chibimetal, three teen tanuki merging metal and pop. One visit, he was casually eating while passing by a shrine complex he had always passed but never stopped at. He felt inclined to walk up at last, because of the newest addition, a girl his age.
Kaho Mujina, her school friends call her Cereal because of a kanji reading of he first name. She is the platonic ideal of plain. Round (literal) tanuki face, no flashy colors, no special markings, no particular special skills. She was born and raised on the Yashima no Hage-Tanuki shrine grounds, ever under attentive family watch. Her mother is the priestess and, to complete the nothing-special cliche, her father is a lower executive at one of the big companies in the area. She's part of the business, the real family business. Religious business. She needed a job while attending high school and preparing for college. So, she naturally fell into being a miko at the shrine. Her mother was always there, watching over her, keeping her close, safe and well-tended. Kaho often prayed to the Kami of the shrine for someone to love. And the first day she began her work, a shy stranger in a new Chibimetal jacket (her secret treat, her own private music preference) came up and almost left, before she tapped him on the shoulder, and he shared his last skewer of chili-roasted locusts.
And that's how mama's cub Nuka met mama's cub Kaho.
Nuka slightly changed his look to really appeal to her, or at least fit the look he thought he should have. A yankii pompadour made out of his dark mane, and wearing his jacket banchou style, while keeping the same black slacks and white shirt his mother likes him in (she believed they should look a bit up-market from the surroundings, though Vitani gets away with gothing it up.) Kaho DOES have regular clothes, but when she isn't in a school uniform, she's working, or on the shrine grounds so is usually in her miko attire with her twig broom. They're plain mammals who fit together like a hand in a glove. Nobodies who are each other's special somebodies.

When you have a ton of Disney things that could be Zootopianized, plus other animal-based shows, things can get pretty wacky, wild, and even cute. And I'm all about wacky cute. And Nuka dressed like a Japanese delinquent dating a plain Jane tanuki miko is wacky cute to the max.
