Gabriela wrenched her jacket off and flung it across the room. She sighed and collapsed onto the sofa. Finally, another day was over. The evening was her own to do as she pleased with. But already the creeping anxiety of the next day was reaching its long fingers around her. She growled and shook her head. This was supposed to be her relaxation time, the one time of day where her responsibilities left her alone. She looked around fretfully for something to distract her from the dread of tomorrow. Her eyes reluctantly settled on her trusty guitar, which had been sitting in the corner untouched for several weeks. She turned away, trying to avoid its reproachful gaze. Inspiration had eluded her for a long time. She desperately wanted to write a song to work out her frustrations, but the rumbling stormclouds of her job, bills, and family problems wouldn't let her hear herself think.
She sighed again and shuffled over to the corner, plopping down on the stool she had always used to sit on with her guitar for hours at a time, just writing song after song without a care in the world. She gently picked up the guitar and dusted it off, and settled it on her lap. She stared at the strings. They always used to excitedly call out to her, asking to be played, but this time they remained obstinately silent. She gripped the neck as if to strangle some inspiration out of it, but still nothing came. She bowed her head and groaned in frustration. Nothing had changed. It was just the same as all the other times she'd tried playing recently. She lifted her head again and scowled at the instrument in her hands. Her fingers moved along the frets directionlessly. In a futile effort at playing something, she plucked a chord at random. The sound reverberated around the room. It sounded confused, as if asking her what she was doing. Gabriela smiled for a moment. The guitar sounded just as lost as her. All of a sudden, she knew what this song would be about. She felt her fingers move of their own accord, and the sound of music filled the room.
This pic was a couple of months in the making. I made it for one of my uni projects; the point of the project was to sell a piece of artwork on Etsy (which ended up not happening, but it's a long story), so I somewhat cheekily made a slightly-artier-than-usual furry pic. You may also recognise this gal. I first drew her back in 2018 for my Don't Break the Chain daily drawing challenge:

I always really liked her. Ocelots are cool. So she makes her return here (this time with clothes on), and I guess her name is Gabriela. So at the start of the project, I did several thumbnail sketches to figure out what I was doing, and I gravitated towards the one of a "morose guitar player". I liked the idea of a somewhat moody and thoughtful piece about an artist struggling to express themselves through their craft.
This piece has had a long life and gone through a lot more versions than most of my drawings.

First there was that original sketch; then I made a real sketch, saving a screenshot to put in my submission to show development; then I put together a rough version to offer up for feedback; then I did some lineart and polished the colours up for the project submission, but didn't have time to really polish it up as much as I would have liked. Finally, a few days later, I came back to it and drew the missing parts of her feet and tail in, polished up the colouring and shading some more, and added some fancy stuff. I like the way it turned out! It's probably not like my best drawing ever, but it has quite a different atmosphere to what I usually do. Oh, and I was inspired to write a little story to go with it. It's been years since I did some prose.
(Oh yeah, and that logo which I used like 3 times? Yeah, I decided it was too overblown and distracting so I scrapped it and made a simpler one.)
