Originally posted to my old account in August of 2016, I managed to snatch up a few breaks here and there in between the fursuit making chaos and decided to finish up my Minion to show her off in all her glory! Inspired by all the costumes in the Minion Rush game I used to play on my phone, I decided to have a little fun and design myself a whole new character/costume set as opposed to simply drawing a Minion, so meet Valkyrie, a Minion inspired by the Greek goddess of Victory and the original Valkyrie, Nike! She may look sweet and angelic, but this Minion can pack a punch! Best to stay on her good side if you know what's best for you, LOL!
Valkyrie also has a backstory to tie her into the Minion Rush universe! This is her story:
Once, long ago, Valkyrie was the leader of a tribe of Minions. Caring a great deal for her tribe, she always strived to be a good leader and the best guardian she could be for them. Under her guidance and care, her tribe flourished and was happy. Then, one fateful day, everything changed. Valkyrie and her tribe had decided to explore a new territory in search of adventure (and maybe a few bananas). They laughed together as they traversed new terrain, everyone excited to see what they might find over the next hill. Eventually they stopped at the foot of a large mound to share a meal of some berries they had found nearby. Valkyrie smiled as she watched her companions share in the day's spoils, but her joy was cut short when the ground suddenly rumbled beneath them, then tore open with a thunderous roar as a blast of heat and rock spewed into the air. Thrown away from the others by the force of the explosion, Valkyrie stumbled to her feet and shook her head in a desperate attempt to clear it of the daze trying to keep her down, and was horrified by the scene that now greeted her. Where once there had only been what had seemed a simple mound there now stood a fresh, smoking volcanic crater, magma pouring down its sides as hot ash turned the sky black and rained down all around her. Her tribe was screaming, but trapped between the quickly approaching lava flow and a huge fissure Valkyrie suddenly realized had formed between her and them -- blocking their escape and any hope for her to rescue them. Desperate, Valkyrie scrambled to try to find anything she could to bridge the chasm standing between her and her people, anything to help her save them, but there was nothing. The only tree nearby was too big for her to bring down alone, and too far away to reach them. She had no rope, she could find no vines. She raced up and down the chasm as the lava closed in around her tribe, frantically trying to reach across with branches, but there was nothing she could do to save them, nothing she could do but watch and scream as the magma flow claimed her tribe and took them from her. Brokenhearted, grief stricken, and blaming herself for the deaths of her tribe mates, convinced she should have been able to do something to save them, Valkyrie never forgave herself for their loss. She wandered the wilderness alone, believing she was to blame for her tribe's demise.
One day, many long years later, as Valkyrie wandered the streets of the world alone and lonely, she suddenly found herself in the shadow of a tall, dark house and was surprised to hear the familiar and long-missed voices of Minions coming from inside. She hesitated in her steps, torn between an undeniable desire to be part of a tribe again and the ghosts still haunting her, telling her the others would be better off without her. Before she could make up her mind she heard the unmistakable voice of a human man shouting for someone called, "Dave," as he burst through the front door, and she froze in place as his eyes fell on her. "Well, who are you?" the bald man was asking, but she couldn't bring herself to speak. Her heart was racing. Behind him she could see many curious yellow faces peeking out at her, other Minions eager to check her out. The human was now standing in front of her, chuckling as she looked up at him to see a smile on his lips. "You look like you could use a bath," he laughed, and Valkyrie just blinked at him. "I am Gru," he introduced himself, then gestured back towards his house and the other Minions both inside and creeping out of it, "And this is my home. Come with me. I will take care of you." He placed a hand on her back to gently urge her forward and Valkyrie stiffened for only a moment before obeying his command. Nervous but relieved to finally be welcomed into a group again, she smiled at the other Minions -- before she found herself surrounded by the excited bunch as they ushered her inside and welcomed her home.
Valkyrie settled into the Gru house happily, grateful and glad to be a part of a family again. Gru, his family, and the other Minions had all welcomed her and made her feel like she belonged -- a feeling she had sorely missed. She grew attached to her new friends -- her new tribe, her new family -- very quickly and devoted herself wholeheartedly to them. When she learned of the Rushers and the work that they did, the abilities they could gain, she knew she had finally found her purpose. A Rusher could gain wings -- the very thing she had once needed but lacked. Vowing to never let anything happen to her new family, Valkyrie trained hard to become a Cupid Rusher and now wields her sword with pride and confidence once more, carried to victory by her own wings and the love of her new tribe -- and the old.
