[it opens to Blake doing some wrenching to an offscreen thing]
Blake: Just a few turns more, and it should be done
Dustin: [enters the room as sounds of clattering metal was heard he looks down seeing some leftover scrap] uh... Blake? what's with all the metal on the floor?
Blake: I thought about making a new friend for my page :)
Dustin: oh? who would that be?
Blake: I call her the Cybernetic Automaton Made for Intellectual Learning and Logical Exploration, or Camille for short :)
Dustin: oooooo sounds cool where is she?
Blake: She's right here. (presents Dustin with the structural outlining of Camille)
Dustin: ooooo interesting :)
Blake: Thanks :) not sure if you know this, but robots have been really interesting to me for a long time :)
Dustin: oh yeah? :)
Blake: Yeah. Mostly robots in animated series have captivated me :) They can either be dull, but still cool, or more human than robot but still capable of doing amazing things :)
Dustin: yeah when most people think of robots they either think of robotic things that calculate and act like a computer or some cases are like fighting machines like say Mecha-Godzilla or Baymax Fighter Mode in Big Hero 6 but today Blake and i are going to count down the top 10 Animated Robots for this list the robot will come from any form of animation being shows, movies and even video games they can either be comedic or still be a robot depending on which one you look at
Blake: Let's see which ones will inspired Camille and maybe we'll figure some things out from there. So, here are the top 10 animated robots
Number 10: Scaramouche - Samurai Jack
Dustin: let's start off with the more recent robot coming from the Season 5 revival of Samurai Jack, in 2017 the show came back after being cancelled abruptly during the 4th season back in 2004 not even attempting to end off the series properly but after years of waiting we finally got the conclusion we've been waiting for in a 10 episode miniseries anyways in the first episode of the reboot XCII AKA 92 near the end of it Jack is seen being ambushed by one of Aku's assassin robots a fast-talking musical assassin robot styled after Sammy Davis Jr.
Blake: I'm not familiar with this character, to be honest, but I'll try my best to talk about him. Voiced by Tom Kenny, Scaramouche, nicknamed Scaramouche the merciless, has a musical motif to him. He is made with a lot of personality, out to take down Samurai Jack and fulfill his mission
Dustin: indeed he was also the first to notice Jack doesn't have his sword anymore since he lost it during an event that would come up later in the miniseries of course Jack was able to successfully defeat Scaramouche leaving him as a head, some time later he was able to reactivate himself without a body so he heads out to inform Aku that Jack doesn't have his sword anymore but in Episode C after informing Aku and regaining his body Scaramouche gets destroyed again by Aku after he sees Jack has his sword back
Blake: It really shows how dedicated Scaramouche is to his work, even if it isn't morally sound. Thankfully Jack was able to stop him before he caused too much trouble.
Number 9: Robotboy - Robotboy
Blake: A pretty unique cartoon in terms of style. Robotboy is a small and adorable robot that can turn into a fierce fighting machine should evil rear its ugly head, especially from Dr. Kamikaze
Dustin: in the intro Robotboy was given to a boy called Tommy Turnbull by his hero Professor Moshimo, Due to fears that Robotboy would be stolen by his arch-enemy Dr. Kamikazi and his main henchman Constantine to be used to take over the world Robotboy is kinda like Disney's version of Pinocchio in a way bright eyed, curious and a little bit silly in some parts but when he gets superactivated he is so kick-fuckin' ass! :D
Blake: At the center of it, we get to know more of Robotboy, and he is absolutely adorable X3 Generally optimistic and willing to learn about what it means to be a true boy, Robotboy has a great approach to life and excellent fighting skills should he need to
Dustin: oh yes also Robotboy is not the only robot in the series there's also Protoboy who is Robotboy's evil brother and Robotgirl who is a female Robotboy with a bow
Blake: There was also the temporary Robotman, and at one point even a Robotbird, but they didn't fair as well as the others do
Number 8: Metagross - Pokemon
Dustin: i know what you're thinking why am i putting a Pokemon on this list? a lot of Pokemon are mostly animals well yes but there are some Pokemon that are able to become other things but Metagross is kind of a special one as this Pokemon apparently has the intelligence of a supercomputer so yeah i'm calling it a robot
Blake: And it makes sense; almost like Dragon Ball, Metagross is evolved by fusion of two different Beldum, and then two different Metang, so it has four brains inside
Dustin: indeed and whether it's the games or the anime this Pokemon is super awesome in the anime there's of course that one shiny Metagross James tries to catch by himself when Jessie and Meowth temporarily leave Team Rocket and the time when a Metagross and a Magnezone were battling in the city since their training spot got filled with rain water still Metagross is awesome even if there are some points where you get it late game at least i experienced my own shiny Metagross back when Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire were out
Blake: Indeed. Metagross is a powerful steel type Pokemon, something that qualifies as a robot in our list.
Number 7: Robot Jones - Whatever Happened to Robot Jones
Blake: Yeah, what did ever happen to that guy? Anyway, Robot Jones is a robot that goes to a human school to learn about human culture. Though Robot Jones is made fun of at some points, he still has some close companions that makes Robot Jones' school days easier
Dustin: indeed this was a show i remember seeing some times when i was a kid it was pretty funny too now if you remember seeing this show when it premiered in late 2002 as well as the pilot which came out two years prior you'd notice that Robot Jones' voice is more like a robot along the lines of a Microsoft Sam kind of thing in fact it kind of was in the first season they used the Microsoft Word 98 text-to-speech function called "Junior" for Robot Jones' voice however in season 2 they replaced it with child actor Bobby Block and he redubbed all episodes of season 1 as well in my opinion though i prefer the Junior voice
Blake: What I didn't know until now is that the series apparently takes place in the 1980's, which is why certain characters are dressed the way they are, and why some features look very basic in terms of technology. Still, Robot Jones manages to go through life with two good friends, a crush on a girl with headgear and braces, and even manages to escape from a pair of meddlesome twins
Dustin: indeed this show is very underrated and it deserves a DVD like Shining Time Station does
Number 6: Conky - Pee-Wee's Playhouse
Dustin: ok i know he's not from an animated series but i still consider puppetry a form of animation and he is kinda, like he moves realistically like a robot even if he's performed by a guy in a costume and strings anyways the Conky 2000 was made for the Pee-Wee's Playhouse show as he didn't exist in the original stage show like Clocky and Jambi he was also made to dispense the show's main feature the secret word
Blake: A cute character design indeed, Conky is an interesting character. While not as familiar with him either, it is intriguing to learn that in the 2010 revival of Pee Wee's playhouse, he's voiced by Josh Meyers, younger brother of talk show host, Seth Meyers :-)
Dustin: that's pretty cool Conky is really an essential part of the show mostly with the Secret Words as we see in the episode Conky's Breakdown without Conky the Playhouse wouldn't be the same i commend Paul Reubens for giving us a great character in this show not just Pee-Wee Herman
Blake: A sweet and friendly robot as well :)
Number 5: GiR - Invader Zim
Blake: Though speaking of cute robots, this one is a colossal fan favorite among animation fans. GiR, a junk model of a SiR robot made by the Mighty Tallest to give to Zim, GiR functions... differently compared to the more advanced models
Dustin: yeah like Blake said GiR was literally invented on the spot by the Tallest who are trying to get rid of Zim as he messed up the first Impending Doom so they made GiR, gave him to Zim and they go to Earth to "rule it" of course there are rare moments when GiR can be obedient but even that can backfire sometimes take that one episode where Zim uses special modifications to GiR and he ends up going insane
Blake: Unlike most robots, GiR likes to eat and even likes to cook things like waffles and bacon. Sometimes adorning a squeaky green dog disguise so as not to arouse suspicion, GiR is probably the cutest robot nutcase you'll ever see.
Dustin: indeed he was also kind of influential in a way GiR's dog costume may have inspired the design of Chuck from Panty and Stocking if i'm not mistaken
Blake: They do look similar, don't they? Still, GiR is a special treasure, one of the aspects that people remember from Invader Zim
Number 4: Karen - Spongebob Squarepants
Dustin: she's mostly a computer but she's about as lively as any robot, in the show she's Plankton's computer wife a W.I.F.E. to be exact Wired Integrated Female Electroencephalograph she's actually got a lot of character for being a computer/robot thing :-)
Blake: Indeed. She tries to keep Plankton in line when he tries to scheme. She knows his plans don't always work, but she still tries to be a supportive wife. Karen is a bit on the snarky side and more sarcastic, but Karen knows how to keep Plankton from going too far, even if he doesn't always listen
Dustin: yeah and even though i'm not a fan of most episodes after Season 3 and the movie Karen does have some good development in some episodes like the episode Karen 2.0 for example
Blake: Indeed. Fun fact, Jill Talley, the voice of Karen, is also the IRL wife of Tom Kenny, the voice of Spongebob
Dustin: wow and the name Karen actually came from the late Stephen Hillenburg's wife Karen Hillenburg the name goes around :)
Blake: Indeed. Overall, Karen is a brilliant computer robot, and an even greater rock for Plankton to support.
Number 3: The Laurence "Larry" 3000 - Time Squad
Blake: Picture if you will, a robot originally programmed for etiquette and culture. But once the nations of the world got together, you get reassigned to work at Time Squad with Officer Buck Tuddrussel. It can be pretty annoying when your boss is a bit of a bonehead. This is the case for Larry 3000
Dustin: Time Squad was a show i pass by sometimes it was pretty good and Larry is pretty great especially since he's voiced by Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill sometimes he's often able to try and fix up what's wrong in the timeline along with Buck and Otto but most of the time he just as silly and way off from the mission as Tuddrussel the one memorable time i would say where he wasn't helpful at least until the end by accident was the episode The Prime Minister Has No Clothes X3 but still he is a very smart robot even if he's not a good History wiz like Otto and can be posh at times
Blake: Indeed. And even if the series hasn't officially stated this fact, it's highly possible that Larry is in fact a gay robot. He has a lot of effeminate qualities to him, especially around Tuddrussel
Dustin: indeed i think i need to watch this series again X3 [looks for the DVD] oh... there's no DVD's... FU--
Number 2: Bender - Futurama
Dustin: while Larry 3000 was polite and british Bender here is the EXACT opposite! when we first see Bender he was seen waiting in line for the Suicide booth with Fry [who thought it was a phone booth] it's then that a kind of, sort of, not really friendship blooms between the two he's a bending robot who drinks beer and he's awesome
Blake: Aside from Jake the Dog on Adventure Time, Bender is one of John DiMaggio's stand out performances. While Bender can be brash and conceited, I think the reason he stands out is because we all know someone like him in our lives. Being a bending bot for construction, Bender pretty much rebels from his code and carves his own niche in the world, along with the other members of the Planet Express crew
Dustin: indeed Bender is so awesome my favorite episode with him would have to be The Honking where Bender gets run over by... a were-car... i'm not joking either but it's really awesome and he has to try and lift the curse before he runs over someone he cares about it's also funny that Fry got a jealousy over this when Bender attempted to run Leela over but anyways Bender is an awesome robot even if he is pretty brash sometimes
Blake: Indeed. Now, before we get to our number 1 pick, we have some honorable mentions.
Honorable Mention #1: Rosie the Robot - The Jetsons
Blake: honestly, how can we not mention Rosie? I'm not completely certiain, but I think she's the first animated robot character ever made. she's the maid of the Jetsons, and fulfills all of her tasks as well as she can
Dustin: oh yes now while i'm not a MAJOR watcher of this show i have seen Rosie a few times here and there she does everything a robot should and she does have her own personality she's pretty nice there was also that time she fell in love with this one robot i can't remember his name but i know he was built by that mechanic guy
Blake: While she may seem old fashioned to some, she makes sure that any task she's given is done well. She may think things are a bit too much at times, but she still does the best she can
Honorable Mention #2: Bunnie Rabbot - Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM
Dustin: yeah sue me i'm putting a cyborg rabbit girl in the honorable mentions well let's get started Bunnie was obviously one of Robotnik's experiments but Sonic and his friends were able to half save her i say "half save her" because her left arm and her legs are now robotic but she's pretty hot and pretty awesome
Blake: Voiced by the late great Christine Cavanaugh, Bunnie has a lot of Southern wit and charm to her. She may be smart, but she's also bright and spunky. She's a marvelous part of the Freedom Fighters, willing to do anything she can to stop Robotnik and his reign
Dustin: oh yes even though she was mostly an original creation from the Archie crew who made the original comics as opposed to SEGA themselves like Tails and Amy, Bunnie is a very cool addition and i'd love to see her again sometime imagine what she'd do with Rouge the Bat X///3
Blake: That would be an interesting dynamic for certain.
Number 1: XJ9/Jenny Wakeman - My Life as a Teenage Robot
Blake: Talk about a stand out character. Jenny Wakeman, "born" as X-J9 by Dr. Nora Wakeman, is a robot that protects Tremorton with her super advanced skills and weaponry. But Jenny wants to be a real teenager. With friends like Brad and Tuck Carbunkle, a boy who has a crush on her name Sheldon, and rivals at high school like the Crust Cousins, it's never a dull moment for Jenny. But that's just her high school life. Outside of school, she has bigger fish to fry O.o
Dustin: oh yes outside of school she has to deal with many enemies around her including a bunch of lab mice, some alien bikers and of course robots coming from The Cluster this show has everything and more and i just love how awesome Jenny is :D
Blake: Indeed. With advanced weaponry, multiple language features (especially Japanese), and even at one point changes her form for fashion purposes, Jenny is a versatile and adaptable character. Even if she is a robot, she's in many ways, very human
Dustin: oh yes and that's the top 10 Animated robots so when can we see yours be functional? [puts hand on Camille's outline and she falls apart suddenly] uh... whoops... ^^;
Blake: (chuckles) Robot tinkering might not be my thing. So I'll just draw her :)
Dustin: sounds good cya next time guys!
