This was part of a trade I did with Alby. There's a little teeny story that goes with this....
Alby and Yookey, paw in paw were ushered into the living room of the blue lion's house by Yookey's Dad.
"Thanks ever so much for looking after these two, Paul. I swear it's only for the afternoon. I'll be back at four to pick them up."
The lion chuckled. "It's no problem I wasn't running any errands today so I'm happy to help, I'm sure Gem will enjoy the company" he gestured over to a multicoloured playpen where a small squirrel was curiously peering between the bars watching the event unfold.
Yookeys dad bent over and gave his little red panda a hug and ruffled her bunny friend's headfur.
"Now you two behave for Unka Paul, and be gentle if you play with the baby ok. I'll be back a little later to pick you up."
Before Yookey could start protesting or throwing a tantrum he swept out of the room leaving The adult lion with the three kids. The bunny and Panda stared at one another, standing stock still. They'd not been to this house before and they weren't sure what the plan was, the room was dotted with baby paraphinallia, simple toys like squishy foam bloacks and chew rings and jingle balls, the grown up didnt expect them to play with baby toys did he? They were way beyond that. The little Squirrel girl squealed in frustration at not being nearer the action, causing the two girls to jump.
Paul scooped her out of the playpen and carefully settled her down on her paws she tottered, shakily a couple of steps, towards the two new girls. Yookey panicked. She didnt want to play with the baby and she suddenly spotted the back door was open and the garden outside.
"Mr Paul? Can we play outside maybe please maybe?" Her voice slightly frantic as the squirrel tottered closer.
Paul nodded. "That's an excellent idea, yes, feel free Yookey."
The pair of girls ran to the door but Paul yelled after them.
"Oh! Take Gem with you, okay? She loves to play in the garden. You can keep an eye on her for me whilst I fix everyone lunch"
The two froze and looked at the baby as she flopped onto all fours and crawled much quicker than she had been walking towards her new playmates, babbling excitedly. Alby and Yookey looked at one another and resigned themselves to the fact they'd have to play with the baby. Alby and Yookey stood either side of the tot and offered her a paw each, hauling the squirrel back to her feet.
"Okay Mr Paul" Alby said somewhat reluctantly and the trio slowly made their way out into the garden. They stopped in the middle of the lawn. and sat the baby down on the grass.
"Gem. You stay here okay? OKAY? Me and Alby are gonna play. You can watch us okay?" Yookey spoke loudly so the baby could understand. The little squirrel nodded enthusiastically, not really understanding at all, but that was enough for Alby and Yookey to run into nearby bushes and start exploring.
They'd only been playing in the bushes for five minutes when they heard the baby giggling loudly. wondering what she was finding so fun the two peered out from behind the leaves expecting to see the squirrel where they had left her, only to see the infant sat in the middle of the vegetable patch utterly covered in mud chewing on a worm.
"Oh no!" Yookey panicked and scrambled to her feet, the bunny close behind.
"Gem! She's a mudmonster! We were supposed to keep an eye on her and....NOW LOOK AT HER! Ewwww. Mr Paul is gonna get cross" Alby tugged on her ears a little anxiously, worried they were going to get told off.
Gem crawled through the mud towards her new friends and held up a plant she had managed to yank up. It was good to share. The plant was unceremoniously dumped into Alby's outstretched paw.
"Errrr....Thanks?" The bunny said holding up the now dead plant it smelled quite minty. Suddenly Alby had an idea.
"Hey! We could make an un-mud puddle that could fix this. If we get lots of blossom from the bushes and the nice smelling plants and mix them into the mud then the good mud will cancel out the bad mud and she'll be clean again."
Yookeys face went from panic to elation.
"YEAH! THAT's bound to work! Quick lets gather supplies"
So the two bigger kids scrambled around the garden pulling up flowers and jumping to reach blossoms on trees and even Gem managed to yank up a dandelion or two. The three worked together and soon they had a large mudpuddle brimming with pretty petals and aromatic leaves.
"Just a few more petals and I think it'll be ready" Alby said as she stirred their creation with a useful stick they had found.
"I just need to add some garnish on the top" Yookey flamboyantly tossed the best blossoms they had kept to one side for just such a purpose. "There. It's done. Okay. Ready to test it?" The red panda looked down proudly at the work of art they had created, only for Alby to start giggling.
"I think Gem's already been testing the un-mud on you, Yooks look!"
Yookey looked at the baby, only to see her tail covered in mud and worms.
It was then that Paul called from the house.
"Lunch is ready. Come and get it."
The older kids looked at one another. Instead of building an un-mud puddle they maybe should have built themselves a secret den to hide in.....

Grownup: "Hahah, you had the right idea, but the proper way to make an un-mud puddle is to turn on the faucets in the bathtub."
You know...this stuff with Paul as Gem's dad, I feel like it takes place in sort of a twisted version of Found. Like, Gem was born to Nicole and Jack, Souffle was her uncle, Zee-Zee and Rasile were her brothers, Jack hated Gem because he thought she was the result of an affair between Nicole and Souffle, yada yada yada, Gem became an orphan. However, instead of Gem growing up an orphan and meeting Paul at her workplace as an adult, Paul adopted Gem as a baby.
