Danathius paused to take a breather, panting heavily as he used that moment to gather his strength. Climbing up the side of a mountain without the aid of tools or magic was much more exhausting than the mage would have imagined! Wind whipped up around the human, blowing his hair and robes about as the mage clung tightly to the rocky cliff face, causing him to wince as the sand stung against his exposed skin. The mage looked back, checking the position of the towering, opaque wall of dark dust that was heading in his direction, a sandstorm that would VERY SOON require the shelter of the cave he was climbing to reach. A worried frown crossed his face as he began to suspect he might not make it at his current pace.
"Stop wasting time, buffoon. Get up here." Came a booming voice from far above, Danathius looking up that cliff face to see the scowling muzzle of the earth dragon, Cain, glaring down at him with impatience. The dragon gave a snarl down at the man, lip curling only just before nodding and moving out of the human's view, further onto the plateau that housed the cave Cain had known was there, despite the dragon never having seen these mountains before. Earth Dragon intuition, Danathius had dubbed the beast's unique "sixth sense", having seen it in action a few times in their travels by now. The mage sighed, deciding that nod was permission enough, and wordlessly cast one of the most basic, yet liberating of all transmutation spells: "Flight". Relief washed over his form, the man pushing himself from the cliff face, floating out from it as though he were suspended in water before he began to fly upwards effortlessly, careful not to move too quickly through the air as he reached that ledge, setting himself down on it, immediately looking to spot the dragon. Cain sat, waiting for the mage with an impatient glare that caused the human to go rigid and still in reflex.
Nerves bubbled up in Danathius as he locked eyes with that bulky beast. Despite traveling with the infamous creature and having dealt with the earth dragon multiple times in the past, he still found Cain difficult to read. Experience, though, had taught the mage the hard way that Cain abhorred magic, and the behemoth had made that clear by slaughtering most any human that cast even the most innocuous of spells in his presence. Danathius mentally prepared to defend himself, watching Cain's form closely for signs of aggression, though after a moment, the great brown sneered, giving the slightest roll of those luminous, crimson eyes.
"I know what you are, little abomination. I fully expect you to rely on your tricks to perform even the most simple of tasks. Keep them away from me and we won't have an issue." Cain all but growled out in annoyance at the mage, though the words visibly disarmed the human, Danathius's posture slumping a bit in relief as he looked back to the incoming storm. It seemed they'd made it almost just in time, sky darkening rapidly as that wall of wind and earth approached. "Honestly. Aren't apes supposed to be good at climbing? Ridiculous animal." Cain grumbled, more to himself than his diminutive companion as he turned and began to move ahead, Danathius giving a very quiet, indignant huff before following the bulky beast as it headed into an enormous cavern in the mountain.
Cain moved at a leisurely pace, though his stride kept him far ahead of the mage, the dragon walking further and further into what felt like pitch black darkness with little issue. Almost instinctively, Danathius summoned a ball of light, radiant orb causing the dragon to turn back to him with a growl, freezing the mage in his tracks. He gave a nervously wide, apologetic grin to the beast, Cain examining that spell for a moment before simply giving a grunt and moving further in, the passageway soon opening into a great, expansive chamber inside the mountain cave. Seeming content, Cain flumped himself down heavily, kicking up dust as he got comfortable, laying belly down with his hindquarters on the side, handpaws folded before his bulk, footpaws lazily stacked one on top of the other. Danathius gave a half frown, watching the great brown settle.
"So... we're just going to wait for the storm to pass...?" He asked, trying to temper his incredulous tone with respect. The mage was eager to keep pushing forward, annoyed that part of his deal with the dragon meant that they did things HIS way.
"We are." Cain replied succinctly. The earth dragon rarely spoke more than he had to, and he was even more seldomly polite. Danathius crossed his arms a bit in impatience. A storm like that was nothing to an accomplished sorcerer like himself! With the simplest of spells he could protect both himself AND that brown behemoth from the winds and sands. Even better, he could simply teleport them to their destination and be done with the entire annoyance of travel! Of course, Danathius knew Cain would never agree, and with a huff he resigned himself to finding a way to keep himself occupied, willing that orb of light up and above to the ceiling of that great cavern, leaving it there to rain down soft light as the man gave a stretch, still a bit weary from the exertion of the climb. It didn't take long for the human to become restless, Danathius finding it somewhat vexing that Cain was more than content to do absolutely nothing in the meantime. The mage, in contrast, had an ever-active mind that craved stimulation.
It couldn't have been more than a half hour before Danathius decided to make the most of the situation by expanding on his notes, reaching into his dimensionally-enchanted robe and pulling out a specific journal from the pocket, strolling around the lounging dragon. With an idle wave of his hand, the mage effortlessly conjured a seat for himself, settling himself down at the dragon's enormous footpaws, deciding it was as good an opportunity as any to take note of their design and structure. A light blush washed over the human's face as he wrote and sketched in that book, glancing up occasionally, finding himself staring at those expansive soles and enormous toes for far longer than was necessary. Every so often he'd shift his seat just slightly closer, silently convincing himself he needed a better view for his studies, relieved that he could hide his idle fluster from the dragon's judgemental gaze in this position. Danathius decided that, so long as the dragon didn't catch on to his gawking-disguised-as-research, perhaps this down time wouldn't be so bad at all.
It wasn't long, naturally, before the great beast noticed the seldom heard sound of silence coming from his little, often contemptible company. The great brown neck craned, lifting his enormous head upwards to catch a glimpse of the human staring, with adoration, at his stacked paws.
"Something catch your fancy, whelp?" Came the dragon's voice in a low, growling rumble that caused the little mage to yelp in startled surprise, dropping his journal and pencil, scrambling to gather them up off of the ground. Cain smirked, taking note of the human's excessive fluster. It was far from the first time the elder dragon had seen his body have such an effect on his lessers.
"M-merely expanding my notes on your species. I can stop if it's a bother..." the mage offered in stammered speech, keeping his eyes pointed at the ground in fluster. The slightest smirk crossed the dragon's muzzle, Cain subtly delighting in the human's reaction. Idly, he'd give his paws a clench, thick digits curling towards the human as those broad soles creased and wrinkled before the little mammal. It was more than enough to grab the man's attention, Danathius stuck gawking at the veritable tower of powerful paw flesh before him. The human gave a strained gulp as he stared, now fully aware the dragon was taunting him. Upsettingly, it was working.
"Studious little insect, aren't you. I suppose it's as good a way as any to pass the time, if it keeps you from chirping. Go on then." Cain rumbled out, being strangely agreeable as he watched the human with a smirk, noting how the human couldn't tear his eyes from the dragon's feet. Cain gave a lazy yawn, spreading and splaying those plump digits wide for his captive audience of one. Danathius nearly groaned aloud at the display, biting his lower lip as he leaned himself in closer, feeling the warmth radiating from those confusingly delicate looking scales. The dragon's paws were visibly powerful, yet somehow seemed soft and plush. Danathius felt conflicted; despite his attraction to draconic paws, this wasn't the time, the place, NOR the dragon for him to indulge his more deviant desires, and yet something about how large and strong the earth dragon's supple paws were called to him like a siren of the seas. Even the light, earthen musk that roiled around the dragon’s thick hindpaws ensorcelled the mage, slowly whittled away at his remaining willpower to try and resist surrendering to Cain’s feet.
Cain maintained that smug expression as he watched the human's inner struggle play clearly across that blushing face while the dragon idly flicked his toes together. The smirk turned to a grin as he felt the human suddenly give in, pressing himself up and into the sole on the dragon's lower footpaw. The elder dragon was content. He had little interest in being worshiped, but having yet another means of leverage over so powerful a mage would all but certainly prove invaluable in time.
An absolutely lovely commission I got from nommz, featuring Danathius and cainhiryu's behemoth of a brown dragon, Cain. I couldn't be happier with how this turned out, especially so since nommz was so helpful in helping to design Cain's gorgeous hindpaws. Please be sure to check out both nommz and cainhiryu and give them your love. They definitely deserve it! Special thanks also goes to Cain for writing the lovely story to go with this stunning piece! Please be sure to like and comment on his submission if you liked it, which you can find here!

Yeah! I'm glad that there were a lot of good references out there, and that Nommz was willing to work with us!
Having yet another means of leverage. I can just imagine it now.
Cain trying to convince Danathius of something. Danathius disagreeing. Cain suggesting casually that the human would make a good footrest. Danathius's will vanishing.

Slowly, Cain is building up a huge advantage state from which Danathius will not be able to escape.
Will not want to escape from.
Who could say no to tough skinned, warm, flexing, lethal dragon soles. Able to slowly grape-press your brains out, or just lightly cage around you so you can't escape.

Couldn't be more grateful and pleased with this!
Well, maybe a bit more pleased. Best you get to work.

I’ve never really had any interest in feet/paws but I like this one a lot.

Glad you like it! I agree that it turned out fantastic! <3
