While Nerys' bioluminescence is used mostly as a makeshift threat display and for navigating the underdark, it of course pulls double duty as a decoy or lure when needed. In truth, the dusky dragoness is an accomplished ambush hunter, and her omnivorous nature frequently has her catching live prey when such opportunities present themselves!
Take the above example.
Upon finding a deep pool in her wanderings, Nerys quietly slips in and heads to the bottom of the pitch black basin, keeping her natural light at a dim level. She settles down amidst the drab colored weeds--points of her crest all but blending in alongside them. Next, she simply places her tail frond on a cleared section of the pool floor, urging the luminescent bacteria to give off pulses of wan light. Once everything set, she simply...waits.
And just like magic, the pale detritivores of the basin bottom seep into view, enticed by both the light and the prospect of food. The glowing bacteria on Nerys' tail tip is, in fact, the selfsame bacteria that these small creatures would normally eat! Usually a scarce sight below, a large mass of this glowing delicacy makes for a doubly effective lure! With a sizable crowd of bottom-feeders nibbling flakes of orange light from her tail, Nerys finally springs into action! She clamps her tailfin shut on several of creatures (not unlike a venus fly trap) and simultaneously lunges her fanged mouth at any other stragglers too slow too flee!
The pool bottom is once again reduced to inky blackness--save for the occasional soft light as Nerys leisurely feeds on her prey, pulled from her tail like sardines from a tin can.

Another awesome piece by Halybs with some lovely contrast to it! I had a general 'ambush predator' prompt for this one, and Halybs really ran away with it--to stunning effect~
