"Tom was elated, but the Mustang mustered the last of its strength for a last, desperate attempt to regain its freedom. Breaking the ropes, he sprang up the slope and flew higher and higher, in spite of the rope that whistled through the air, in spite of the shot that had been fired in the vain hope of stopping him and stopping the mad rush.
Higher and higher climbed the Mustang and reached a sheer cliff. From there he leaped down into the chasm and fell two hundred feet, down and down... until he finally landed on the rocks. He was left lying there, lifeless, but ... free."
ЯI was startled by these words: "He was left lying there, lifeless, but ... free."
