So this originally started as a joke, but thanks to my big thinky machine in my head I decided to make this much bigger than was originally planned. Also, this takes place in the same universe as Lyudmila and all that jazz. I may consider doing something further with this but for now we have this. AND! I wrote a story for this, of which AnotherDangerNoodle helped me a lot with editing and perfecting it. He knows a lot more about writing stuff so go check him out if you like that.

Nathan Vargas
Gail Vargas
Nathan removed his baseball cap as a gust of the ocean wind from the harbor whipped around him. He had been waiting for hours for his wife to return from a long deployment in a hostile area, and was beginning to get fed up with the fishy smell of the harbor as the servicemen got off the massive Supercarrier that was docked to let off officers and servicemen alike to then greet their families in open arms as they flowed out of the carrier’s doors.
Just as he looked away he spotted her. He could barely pick her out from the others at a glance, as her uniform helped her blend in from a distance. How could he forget that chocolate-colored fur and the cotton colored tail that stuck out of her white uniform. She was flanked by 4 other officers, 3 humans and an uplifted flamingo, engrossed in conversation about tactics or perhaps family. Hating to interrupt their conversation, but spurred on by his hatred for waiting, he called his wife’s name.
“GAIL!” he yelled to the uplifted deer.
Her head suddenly whipped around to face him, her large ears locking on for a moment. She nodded to her companions, saying a few words and saluting to her comrades before making her way over to him.
“How was the pleasure cruise?” Nathan joked, adjusting his Red Sox hat.
Gail the deer undid her heavy uniform, unbuttoning the collar to let fresh air flow onto her matted chest fur. Then she took off her hat and playfully threw it at the man, hitting him square in the face.“Haha, very funny, Nathan. I see you haven’t changed much since I left.”
He rubbed his forehead again, picking up her hat, and was just about to pick up her bags when he was swept up in a hug with energy he thought wasn’t possible from such a graceful deer.
“I missed you so fucking much.” She said as she held the human against her furry body. “Never let me go on that type of cruise again.”
“I-I don’t know if I’m the one who should be worried. Don’t act like I didn’t see the news about your trip.” He managed to squeak out as he felt his body being assimilated into the deer’s furry chest.
After what seemed like an hour, she let out a relieved groan and gave him a sloppy kiss on his cheek before letting go. Now freed from his eager wife’s clutches, he went to retrieve her bags. Together, they walked as a couple to the car and clambered in, Gail taking the passenger seat and getting comfy for the drive home.
----
“The harbor has changed a lot since you left for the Mediterranean,” Nathan explained as he drove through their neighborhood. “That lobster place you loved went out of business and the ModelUSA recently burnt down. But don’t worry, I got us a nice reservation at a really nice uplifted-frien-”
Nathan was interrupted by the now half-stripped and half-asleep deer. “Honey, I really don’t want to go to dinner. I’m tired of formalities and this shit,” she grumbled as she adjusted her white shirt and cranked the AC to full blast..
He stopped at a stoplight and moved his free hand to hold her own cervine hand.“You’ve been like this ever since I picked you up, Gail. There has to be something up.”
The doe flicked her ears, brow scrunched, and sat in silence. The light turned green and Nathan drove the car forward, continuing the drive home. Only when they were a couple of blocks away from their apartment did she sigh and speak up.“It’s the Navy. I hate it. All they do is force me to wear a goddamn uniform and sit me in an office. All because I know how to read a battlefield better than the others.”
“Gail I-”
He was cut off by a snort and a very angry deer gripping his hand.“All because I’m an animal, not human. I can do everything leagues better than those idiots, but I’m stuck in an office because I have fur and a muzzle.” She slouched in her seat, grumbling to herself.
He took her hand again, massaging the soft fur on it. “You’re not the only one Gail. There have been more protests and more bills coming out to help the Uplifted. It’s going to be okay.”
Gail shook her head. “It doesn’t matter. My resignation is already in. Working on Operation Lightning Bug while aboard the USS Raymond Spruance was my last deployment.”
A short, shocked silence fell between the two as Nathan finally turned into the parking lot next to the apartment complex. “Gail you can’t be serious. I thought you loved the Navy? Hell, when you got that promotion to Rear Admiral, all you could talk about was leading your own ship!”
He then pulled into the spot marked for them and put the car in park.
“Yeah...” She teared up, her muzzle forming into a frown. “and I never got to do that...” The doe’s strong demeanor fell as she sobbed with little quiet sniffles..
Nathan moved his hand to her cheek and rubbed away the tears as they cascaded down her furred cheek. Taking her in his embrace, he stared straight into her watery emerald eyes. “It’s okay Gail, I don’t care what you do as long as you're happy. If this is what you want, then I fully support you leaving the Navy.” He moved a hand to go over her sensitive ear and rubbed her head, pulling it into his chest so she could cry into him.
Gail remained silent, soaking her tears into his shirt and taking a moment to regain herself. “Y’know, I think I can go for some nice microwaved food...” she sat up, returning Nathan’s gaze.
The man smiled and planted a gentle kiss on her muzzle. “There’s the doe I married. Now c’mon, I’ll carry your stuff in.”
She smiled, kissed him back, and gathered her rolled-up uniform.
----
“Yeah, it was really hilarious.” Gail continued to talk Nathan’s ear off as he washed the dishes from their dinner. “Maybe it’s only a Navy joke, because when he turned into a pickle I LOST IT!”
After a brief fit of chuckling, the doe stretched and leaned in on the human. “But yeah thats all of it, people don't really talk about the exciting stuff. The explosions and drills aren’t really that interesting when they happen constantly.”
He smiled, finished up and leaned against the counter facing her.“Yeah, well, you had me worried sick. Damn news wouldn’t shut up about how the Spruance had gone in for MORE REPAIRS...” He grabbed her hand with romantic delicacy and brought her close to his chest, looking into her beautiful green eyes, “and nothing about her strong captain leading her to victory.”
Gail rolled her eyes. “Oh c’mon, we were only protecting convoys. Now if you’ll excuse me, this ‘world-saving’ admiral needs to get ready for bed,” she gave him a quick kiss and marched to their bedroom.
Nathan finished the dishes and retreated to the bedroom as well, finding Gail had already gone to shower. A couple of minutes later, with Nathan sitting at the foot of the bed, the newly washed doe came out in a simple large shirt and panties, tired out of her mind. “Feels good not to have those stupid alarms go off while I’m in the shower. Not to mention I can be lazy without command screeching at me.”
Nathan shifted as the deer practically flew herself onto the bed, sinking into the soft fabric. “Those alarms are nothing compared to the dreaded morning one. I’ve heard that’s worse.” He scooted up to her as she got herself comfy, facing him now.
“Mhm, I’m quaking just thinking of it,” she joked and settled into the bed, her back relaxed against the pillows, then plopped her right hoof in his lap with a puppy-dog look.“Say, Nathan, could you do me a favor and rub my hooves? I haven’t had much time to tend to them, so I’d kill for a good massage right about now.”
The man chuckled. “Sure, Gail. Just don’t start bitching if I find out you’re ticklish or something.” He took hold of the cervine leg, running a finger in between the two nails before stopping and holding it there with a puzzled look spread across his face.
“S-something wrong hun? They don’t smell bad or anything, do they? I made extra sure to wash in between them” She adjusted a bit, looking with a bit of concern.
“No, not at all, it’s just…” he moved a hand across the hot underside of her foot.
“How the hell do I massage a hoof?"

Loved the story that comes with this image. Got me thinking about deer hygene.
Long Road to Ruin, how ominous. I love it when there's a story to accompany an art piece and the drama and tenderness in the prose and picture are...Bepis? Oh man, the Bepsi Cola Company's not gonna stand for this!
