I had the same problem with a gift I made for a friend. As you said is complicated. Animal mouths don’t have the musculature to give a kiss. Muzzles are long, slim and rigid and most importantly, they don’t have lips.

I have to say picking felines was a good choice. Their muzzles are wider and shorter and you managed to interlock their mouth quite nicely.

I think you really captured the sensuality here, whether it's functional or not! ;)

Fortunately, most mammals have enough lip to get some action going there, especially big cats, equines and such. It's really the geometry more than anything else that confuses people. If they're locking muzzles for a good tongue-wrestling, that's actually a lot easier to think around, if they're in the same size neighbourhood.
If they're just giving a simple lip pressing smooch... well any animal can do that, it's a common gesture people teach cats, dogs, seals, and often caged birds all the time(though caged birds like to give you a little tongue when they do that). Logical extension from the animal default of nose bumps and nuzzles.
Where it really gets tricky is the middle ground, but I think you did a fine job here of that, so, naturally +fav!

Now, if you really want a challenge, try giving a full on kiss to an eagle, or a macaw for that matter. There's a puzzle that'll scare away most folks, but it's do-able, just keep an eye on that hook, or OFF it, rather!
