First of all, credits go to
sparklies for all the art.
and to
terramcbass for all the writing

I do believe I had commissioned these drawings from her, but she always evaded the question of how much I owe her.
Anyway. I wanted to make a documentary about furries. about a touchy subject, furry tattoos and non-natural markings. because they get so much flak.
I'm offering alternatives here so that furries can have artificial marking that are plausible. This is actually my one submission that I hope will spread amongst the most people because I really think it could help furry artists out there explain their stuff and be useful.
So if you know people who are getting wise-cracks about their character's tattoos and haven't come up with a proper explanation, show them this. Or heck, just fave it and pimp it out to anybody concerned or interested.
(also, if you think you have another method or explanation that could be discussed, send it to me through notes. if I make a second episode to this documentary and showcase your method, I will credit you.)
just in case: hit f5

yup and it's supposed to be painless. I remember hearing about it a year or so back that the process involved them either dipping the metal in dry ice/liquid nitrogen and then covering it with what, some powdery substance and put it to em. I'll ask around for more info, I'll call james tomorrow and ask if he knows
I really like your series. It is quite a fun topic to explore, you write it funny and your illustrations are good.
Came up with three additional ones.
7) Controlled genetical modification of single hair follicles. Reprogramming each of them so that the hair regrows in the new color.
8) The Hair could be completely removed and replaced by sythetic hair implants in the chosen color.
9) Given they have all the used colors naturally they could take a bit of their skin in the chosen color, grow it in the lab and make skin grafts. Could also be combined with 1).
xD 10) Implanting LEDs (or their nanotech or biotech equivalent) and switching them on so they shine through the fur.

7) I was working on that one! But I was kind of hitting a few stumbling blocks. On how to write it or have it illustrated. I will definitely coin some of these words you used. :D
8) and 9) sounds like variants of something I had also came up with. What I though would just be to have a skin graft from a compatible donor, instead of clone growing it or grafting synthetic skin. It sounds more realistic. :O Though I may be tempted to explore variants, and do like "8-a, 8-b" etc
10) now this is new and thinking outside the box! technoluminescence, I like that! Cuz I just love bioluminescence. <3

I love this documentary idea, it's very clever (and useful!)
Personally, I assume that in a furry world, they would probably have invented a method of dying hair roots in a way similar to tattooing so that changing the color that the fur grows into would be the most plausible way to tattoo. It doesn't sound that far-fetched to me, honestly..

I'm very glad you find it useful. :D
The problem with dying hair roots, specifically, ios that most animals molt. they lose the hair entirely and get a new coat, roots and all.
but I get what you mean. It's that permanent hair dying hasn't happened in the human world either, so it might be a bit more of a sci-fi thing. x3 but it's a legit idea to include!
I need to get my rear in gear and put the third one together. x3
