It was a nice spring day in the Hundred Acre Wood. Trees sprouted new leaves, the sun shown, and the birds sang. We draw our focus to page 335 where we see our dear friend, Wyuli the Wolf, baking something very scrumptious in her house, which was located inside a grand oak tree. Now, Wyuli was a very kind animal, she loved doing all sorts of acrobatic tricks for her friends, but she was also a very skilled cook and baker. Her signature dessert to bake was her chocolate chip cookies, they were liked by everyone, including Kanga, who secretly was a little jealous of her baking ability. And that is where our story begins. Let’s find out what happens, shall we?
Now on this lovely spring day in the Hundred Acre Wood, on page 341, we see Wyuli making something very yummy, “Hello there, Wyuli” said the narrator. Wyuli was a bit startled, “Oh, hello Mr. Narrator” she said, waving. ”Looks like you making something very delicious” said the narrator. Wyuli chuckled, “Yes, i’m making my famous chocolate chip cookies for a picnic”, she said, mixing the dough with a spoon. “I see” said the narrator. “In that case, i’ll let you get back to baking”. WyIuli was busy adding the chocolate chips in the batter, when she heard a knock on the door. “Come in” she said, kindly.
The door soon opened and it turned out to be Kanga. “Hello there, Wyuli” she said in a sweet voice, coming inside. “Hey, Kanga” replied Wyuli, mixing the batter one last time. Kanga noticed that Wyuli was baking her cookies. “Making your chocolate chip cookies?” she asked. Wyuli smiled and said, “Yep, making these for the picnic later today”. She then took a small amount of dough in her hands, rolled it into a ball, and placed it on a cookie sheet, repeating the process until there was no dough left. “Your cookies are good, but I think my cookies are just a bit better” said Kanga. “Really now?” said Wyuli as she put the cookies in the oven. “Maybe a bake-off is needed to find out”, she said. Kanga nodded his head, “I agree, maybe tomorrow at noon?”. “You’re on!“ said Wyuli, “I can always go for some friendly competition”. Kanga soon left afterward to get ready for the picnic.
After about ten minutes, the cookies were done, and she took them out of the oven. Wyuli took a long sniff at the chocolatey aroma they gave off “Nothing like the smell of fresh baked cookies” she said to herself. Looking at the clock, she noticed that it was almost time for the picnic, “I better get going, don’t want to be late” she said. After the cookies cooled, she placed them into a picnic basket, followed by some small plates and napkins. “Do I have everything?” Wyuli asked herself. She then did one final check, and soon everything checked out well. “Yep, everything’s here”, she said, and headed to the picnic.
Meanwhile, on page 410, Pooh and his friends were happily chatting, and waiting for Wy to arrive. Pooh brought some honey pots, Piglet brought some acorns, Rabbit brought some vegetables from his garden, Owl brought some tea, Tigger made some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Eeyore brought some thistles for himself, and Kanga and her son, Roo, provided the picnic blanket.
Just then, Pooh noticed Wyuli coming up the hill, with a picnic basket of her own. “Hey guys!” she said, running and waving at them. “Oh, hello there Wyuli, glad you could join us for a small smackeral“ said Pooh, waving back. “Hello Wyuli!” said Roo, excitedly. Wyuli chuckled at his enthusiasm “Hey there, bud!” she said, in a kind and warm voice. Rabbit soon broke the silence, “What did you bring to our lovely picnic?“ he asked. “Well....” said Wyuli, opening the basket. “I brought my famous chocolate chip cookies!” The aroma of chocolate soon filled the air, everyone got a sniff of the sweet aroma. “Hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo! Those look mighty scrumptious, Wolf-Ears” said Tigger. “My, my, they do look decadent “ said Owl. “Those look delicious, but i’ll just stick to my thistles” replies Eeyore, gloomily. Wyuli then said, “Now that we’re all here, let’s dig in!” And soon, Pooh and all of his friends were happily enjoying their picnic lunch.
After the picnic, Wyuli went up to Pooh to ask him a question. “Excuse me, Pooh” she said, tapping his shoulder. “Yes, Wyuli?” he said. “I was wondering if you could be one of the judges in the upcoming bake-off I have with Kanga tomorrow?” she asked. Pooh smiled at his lupine friend, and patted her head. “It would be an honor, Wyuli” he said. Wyuli was glad to hear that Pooh would be a judge. “Thank you so much, Pooh!” she said, hugging him. “Always glad to help” said Pooh. Wyuli then asked Rabbit if he could be a second judge, in which he happily agreed. “I would love to help judge, Wyuli” he said. “Really? Oh, thank you Rabbit” she said. “You’re quite welcome, what time is the bake off at?” he asked. “Tomorrow at noon” replied Wyuli. “See you then” she said, waving goodbye to her friend.
Wyuli thought long and hard on deciding who the third judge would be. She eventually decided that Owl would be the third judge in the bake off. After talking with him, Owl gladly agreed to be the final judge for the competition. Along the way home, she ran into her friend, Gopher, who had popped out of his hole. “Hey, Wyuli, what’s shaking” he said, whistling his “s’s” . “Hey, Gopher, I was wondering if you could find at least two gas ovens and a place in the Hundred Acre Wood to set them up in“ said Wyuli. Gopher pondered for a bit, then he said, “Sure thing, I’ll see what I can do”. Wyuli smiled at his friend, “Thanks, Gopher”, she said. Gopher started to walk back, but he didn’t notice his hole. “Your welcomeeeeeeee!!!” he said, falling and hitting the ground with a crash. Wyuli noticed this and looked down at the hole. “Gopher, are you okay?” she asked, worriedly. “I’m fine” said Gopher, his voice echoing. Wyuli breathed a sigh of relief and headed for her house.
That night, on page 430, Wyuli was getting ready for bed, putting on her magenta colored nightcap, brushing her teeth and washing her face. “I wonder how this competition will turn out, in any case, I’ll do my best and if I don’t win, then that’s okay, all that matters is making my friends happy” she said to herself. Soon, she reached her bed and got under the covers, “Well, I better get some shuteye, got to be on my a-game tomorrow “ she said, yawning. Wyuli turned out the lights and fell fast asleep, having sweet dreams. Meanwhile, on the following page, Gopher worked all night to get everything set up for the bake-off. It took a very long time, but eventually, everything was ready to go.
The next morning, Wyuli woke up with a yawn. “Ahhh, what a lovely day in the Hundred Acre Wood” she said. She got out of her bed, and proceeded to bathe herself, and prepare breakfast. Gopher stopped by soon afterwards. “Took a while, but everthing ready to go for the bake-off” he said. ”Thank you, Gopher, I knew I could count on you” said Wyuli, smiling. ”Just glad I could lend a hand“ he said, smiling back. “Also, maybe you could give a cookie to me when the bake off ends? I’ve heard your cookies are good, but I never had the chance to taste one”. Wyuli smiled at her friend and said, “Of course you can, I’ll make enough for everyone”. “Sweet sassafras! Looking forward to them” said Gopher happily.
After Gopher left, Wyuli packed up all her baking supplies and ingredients and headed to the place that Gopher told her about. When she arrived, Kanga was there, along with Pooh, Rabbit, and Owl. Kanga had also brought all of her ingredients and baking supplies. “Hope you‘re ready, dear” said Kanga to Wyuli. “You bet I am“ she replied, putting on her chefs hat and magenta apron.
”All right then, listen up!” said Rabbit. “This baking competition will soon begin, but first, the rules”. Rabbit began to explain the rules of the competition. “You two will have forty-five minutes to bake your cookies, after time runs out, the judges will have a taste test and record their findings based on taste, presentation, and technique, the baker with the best performance will win, any questions?”. Wyuli and Kanga shook their head no, as they knew what to do. “All right then, your time starts..... now!”.
Wyuli and Kanga got straight to work when Rabbit finished. They took out their bowls, measuring cups, mixing spoons and all sorts of equipment. Wyuli decided to make her famous chocolate chip cookies, while Kanga decided to make white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. They measured flour, sugar, and other ingredients and put them in a bowl. The competition was getting fierce, each side not backing down.
After around ten minutes, the cookies were ready to go into the oven. Wyuli put her cookies in the oven first, followed by Kanga and waited. Around ten minutes later, the cookies were ready, they took them out of the oven and let them cool down for a while. After letting them cool for a while, they were ready to be presented to the judges. “All right, time’s up” said Rabbit. “Now it’s time to present your cookies to the judges. First up was Wyuli and her chocolate chip cookies.
She gave one to Pooh, Rabbit and Owl, and they took a bite. “Yummy, this is really delicious and my tummy agrees too” said Pooh. Next up was Rabbit, and he had this to say, “Delicious, prefect presentation, and technique”. The last one to try Wyuli’s cookie was Owl, and he had this to say, “Why, Wyuli, these are very scrumptious, keep up the good work”. Wyuli was very proud to hear that.
Kanga then presented her white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. Pooh took a bite and had this to say, “Yum, these are great!”. Rabbit had this to say, “My my, how impressive! Tasty and great technique”. Lastly, Owl had this to say, ”These remind me of when my mother used to make cookies and these taste just like my mother’s, splendid job”. Kanga smiled as she heard those words. The judges pondered for a while, and after about ten minutes, the results were in.
Owl broke the silence, “We have decided that there are not one, but two winners in this bake off, and those winners are Wyuli and Kanga”. Wyuli and Kanga were so happy to hear Owl declare them as winners, that they hugged each other. “Congrats, Kanga!” said Wyuli, hugging her friend. “And the same to you, Wyuli” said Kanga. Soon, afterwards, everyone went home. However Wyuli didn’t go home right away, instead, she called for Gopher, and soon enough, he appeared outside his hole.
“Well, who won?” He asked. “Actually, we both won!” said Wyuli, explaining the results to Gopher. ”And just liked I promised, I brought you one of my cookies”. She opened up her picnic basket and inside was a chocolate chip cookie. Gopher took in the sweet aroma and said, “My, they smell delicious, don’t mind if I do”. He then took the cookie and gave it a good bite, after chewing it and swallowing it, Gopher then said, “My dinghy, these are the best cookies I have ever had!”. Wyuli was very excited to hear that. “I’m so glad you like my cookies” she said, giving him a large hug. “Don’t mention it” said Gopher.
After Gopher left, Wyuli went back home and decided to take a nap on her chair, thinking about she had made her friends happy, and of more sweet things to bake.
And that’s the story of how Wyuli and Kanga had a bake-off.
