Armadillos might seem like ideal commandos: born for sorties against impossible odds, able to dig far behind enemy lines, indispensable in a knife fight, and not prone to discipline problems. However, their natural attributes also include an affinity for pacifism, tolerance and quiet introspection, rather than rough valour under fire.
Armadillos are thoughtful, sensitive people, and many withdraw into monastic life or extended formal education for the slower pace and relative peace therein. They might even seem to be wise, however this may simply be an affectation of slow, considered speech. They are notoriously near-sighted, and are more comfortable in familiar, stable surroundings than abroad or at sea. Most have some sort of clerical duty or handiwork as a hobby - gardening in particular suits their broad claws. They can additionally thrive as potters, librarians, barbers; occupations of slow forming craft to be done while humming along quietly.
As they are thick-skinned, scuffs and scratches are of little consequence; indeed it is not uncommon to see armadillos at work, scoring marks onto their hide while counting out some measure, or scratching notes on themselves as reminders, only to buff them out later. Armadillo tailors might even use the back of their hand as a shallow pin cushion; an equally fine place to display fishing flies or thumbtacks until needed.
They tend to be philosophical about obstacles in life, including other people. It is quite difficult to insult an armadillo, they don't take themselves seriously to begin with, and are more inclined to shrug off rudeness with beatific understanding and compassion.

He's in trouble, though. Failed to file his taxonomy report last year.
I really enjoy your pieces. They are such a unique style and have so much life and vitality to them. They aren't just another common pin-up pose and are a breath of fresh air! :)
You also have such a neat style and I love your use of colours!

*chuckle* You continue to say you're "just an artist" on the project, but if your character guides and interpretive texts end up becoming the foundation of something bigger, I won't be surprised. :)
That's it. I'm officially an armadillo. Except for the near-sighted thing. I have the eyes of a falcon.
True. When you can curl up into a leathery ball in case of danger, and aren't perceived as a threat anyway, why worry? I could see armadilloes as opticians, patiently grinding lenses for microscopes and telescopes as well as monocles and reading glasses, since they would have some sympathy for others with faulty vision (and it's a superb field to specialize in, as only those with money could possibly afford eyewear). I thought instantly of Brother Michael, Romeo and Juliet's go-between in the Zefferelli movie version. Just a kind, gentle man living the simple life of a monk. Nice!
So, if I've kept track, you still have one to go. Now what would that last species be...?

I heart this description. :3 Wouldn't mind befriending a 'dillo.
I think this is one of the best you've done. Everything, from the color composition to the pose, is spot on.
Wow. This describes me almost to a T.
Except, as was stated by someone else, the nearsighted thing.
I'm not. XP Not with both eyes, anyway...

Nice work. Armadillos are so cute, I love them muchly. Great job. ^ ^
This gives a feel of serenity and calm. It also gives me the feeling of Redwall and how this armadillo would be a happy resident. Great piece of art.
Well, relative. Academia is a cut throat business to be sure, but the throats aren't usually, literally, cut.
