Just a little sketch to show what feet I draw on Anthros usually. (Not monsters and not cartoon characters, mind you!)
A: Human feet. Maybe toenails are more clawlike and the shape of the big toe may be a bit transformed.
B: Plantigrade animal feet. Even if the animal is originally digitigrade, because it's a mix of human and animal.
C: Digitigrade. Only for animals that are originally digitigrade.Build a bit stronger, since they have to carry all the weight of the character.
This is NOT a "Dis is the only way how to draw this, otherwise it's WRONG"-Guide.
It's just my way of drawing things and to show that i don't only draw one way. Sometimes I even mix it up and draw the same character with different feet between pictures, but the more serious/realistic ones tend to stick to style A usually.

That's how I like to draw it, because I like the look of it. It wouldn't be realistic either way. So don't tell me what to do, k thx bye.
Going by realism I found out that keeping an upright stance with plantigrade feet is very hard when the character has a large tail. A tail puts the center of gravity further back where it has little or no support for a plantigrade stance while a digitgrade stance allows them to adjust the point of balance further back to be in line with the center of gravity. So I prefer to keep plantigrade feet only for bears, koalas and such
Yeah that's true, tails are another story! I feel like, for like a style A character, it's better to leave the tail away (or just have a small one, like for my Hare), but that's also just me.
This is a good reference point to have, considering i still have trouble even drawing lower body on the figure XD;
Yeah, the hips specifically are a hard part to understand X,D
I've always found digitigrade legs more attractive, so that tends to be what I stick with.
I am a big fan of Type C. They just look most nice to look at in my opinion. Always happy to see them on anthros. :3
I get mixed answers when asking what Type C is called. Some tell me that’s Digitigrade. While others tell me half Digitigrade.
It's called digitigrade. Half-Digitigrade is just something some people call their specific way of drawing a mix between animal and human foot (like a human foot with animal toes that "tip toes" as humans can do).
But technically, if it doesn't walk on the heel, it's digitigrade "walking on toes" or unguligrade "walking on hooves"

If I may ask what would you call this? This is a character of my life’s work and I’ve been struggling to decide if this is digitigrade or half digitigrade.

I've always thought the same way you do I think. It makes total sense to me that many (if not most, other than equine and bovine) actual anthros would be probably plantigrade (option B) as there is still HUMAN in the genetics! I also think they look cooler too anyway. I know many furries have a fixation on digigrade being "the best" or "the correct" way... so you you have my full plantigrade support lmao ❤️
Eya, I really appreciate it. When comparison images like that are posted, it shows how much the leaning of general furries go to the C option. Most furries just adore these, but I personally like B the best as well X,D Makes the most sense to me and looks cool. (lately I also like A more and more, but that's just small aesthetics)
thanks! References like these really help out a lot when people artists like myself to draw in any of these three styles
Haha ah yeah, you are right!
It's the best for shoes after all. I lately draw it more and more too, it makes more sense when you want your character to stuff their paws into converse XD

Yeah, exactly! :) I do exactly the same!
I don't do it in more cartoony styles, in these cases it depends mostly on the style!

Thats cool! :)
Really like B, but its nice to see the steps of "evolution" if you want to call it like that hehe

The plantigrade foot is way more appealing than when people do more human looking feet. It looks really really odd. An artist I like does great art but the feet look incredibly odd with human feet and toenails etc.
I love Foot B the most. It's the perfect balance between Animalistic and Anthropomorphic.
As a person who's more used to human anatomy, this one would be easier for me while at the same time it wouldn't be too human to look at.

yeah i feel you! I like those the most as well~ it also makes the most sense for walking upright like human, while still having the animalistic look.
