I plan on writing a story set in South Africa during Apartheid. After watching the film, Cry Freedom I wanted to write a story that was set during Apartheid set in an alternate world where there is a Dog minority instead of it being the Whites.
South Africa, 1980. 32 years have passed since the liberal Afrikaner, Jan Smuts, a Boerboel lost the 1948 election to D.F. Malan, a short tempered Malinois who began the process of stripping the human majority of their rights under an idea called "Apartheid". Not even Coloureds (people of human and dog ancestry) were safe from Apartheid. While humans make up a minority in the rest of the world, they make up a majority in Africa. Humans in Africa have skin shades from pale to dark.
The demographics of South Africa in 1980 were: 68.3% Pure Human, 22.3% Dog, and 9.4% Coloured/Mixed
The struggle for freedom from the Afrikaner Dog minority has been a long an bloody road. From the bloody Sharpeville Massacre to Steven Biko's death, Humans across all of South Africa are trying to win their freedom. Reuben Sisulu, a pure human from East London and James Bayard, a Coloured from Mossel Bay join forces with Donald Courtney, a liberal dog of British descent from Port Elizabeth to expose the atrocities that the South African government under Botha's rule is doing to the humans of South Africa. The story of a land rich in everything. Except common decent respect. Cry for Freedom is a mature story based on the real world history of South Africa and the film, Cry Freedom by Richard Attenborough.
