A few chilling snores were heard outside of a cave, any possible animal who passed nearby would quickly run away at the sound, it seemed to be emitted by a monster or some hellish creature, though, it was far from that.
The skulldog moved from side to side on the ground, trying to find a comfortable position in which to sleep, the cold and hard sensation of the rocks made it impossible for him to rest, but he had no other choice, getting out of there would mean death.
Since he had been cursed by that sorceress his life went downhill, everything he once loved he had now lost.
A horrible feeling of helplessness and remorse ran through his body, he wanted to get up from there, punch everything around him. destroy the cave completely, but despite being able to do so, he didn´t, otherwise, he would be homeless.
WHY?! WHY IS ALL THIS LIVING HELL UPON ME? ALL I WANTED WAS TO SEE! TO SEE HOW MAGIC WORKED!
He was screaming in his mind, the words echoed in his head but were completely inaudible on the outside, it was muffled despair, an agony that only one could describe, one of the worst types of pain known.
Vincent kept writhing on the floor. unable to put aside those thoughts, which along with the solid rock floor, kept him awake.
At one point he couldn't take it anymore, he stood up, turned around to face the wall and started banging his skull violently against the rocky surface of the cave, cracking both bone and stone equally.
He didn't stop until he realized the damage that was being done, there was a greenish liquid leaking from the cracks in his skull, akin to blood.
The skulldog stopped and backed off a bit, feeling dizzy and off-balance, about to stumble, his life slowly flooding out of his body.
His vision began to blur out and he wanted to fall asleep...forever.
He saw a few more drops of the greenish liquid fall from his face and onto the floor before collapsing, the lights went out.
...H-huh?
I looked around, trying to figure out where I was, I couldn't see anything and it felt like my body had no weight, it was some kind of infinite, dark abyss in which I was floating, like the outer space, but darker, and it felt oddly familiar.
-I...I've been here before...yes...when I...changed...
I had returned to where everything had begun, that infernal emptiness that gazed upon my soul.
Has this darkness come back to take me for good? Will I remain here like I've supposed to years ago?
…
It doesn't matter anymore...at least...I won't suffer anymore...just...just let it end...please...
Hey! Wake up!
Uhh...huh?
I could hear a voice, it was calling me out, it didn't sound familiar, but it made me feel strangely comforted, was I truly alone there?
The voice began to get louder until it resonated throughout the length and breadth of that abyss, and suddenly...within the darkness, I could see an arm reach out for me, like if someone wanted to pull me out.
I looked around and wondered if I was really being saved, or was it just a vision of my dying mind?
The hand was getting closer to me, trying to reach my arm, I was feeling unmotivated and didn´t want to go on, I could see the fingers of the hand extending, almost reaching my shoulder, I looked at it with some hesitation, but in the end...I grabbed it.
It quickly began pulling me with such force, taking me to the portal from which it was coming out and getting me inside it.
Silence...
And suddenly…I began rapidly moving inside a tunnel, I seemed to be crossing some kind of corridor with a light at the end, moving quickly inside this one, as if I was floating.
The light became more intense as I got closer, a blinding flash covered my eyes completely and little by little the brightness began to fade to reveal someone's face, staring at me.
The person gave a deep sigh of relief and stood up, looking worried about me.
-God damn it, you got my heart racing.
The guy took a handkerchief from his pocket and began rubbing it around my face, cleaning the greenish blood that covered it.
I still couldn't recognize who this was, my vision was still blurry, but it slowly began clearing up.
Before my eyes there was another canine, his eyes were greenish like mine, but didn´t shine and his fur was grayish and white.
-Wh-what...?
I looked around, wondering what was going on, was I awake? Is this what the afterlife looked like?
The person spoke again.
-Are you okay? Jeez, you really put a lot of effort into smashing your skull on that wall, why though?
It couldn't be a hallucination, I actually had a sociable person in front of me, a person who had also saved me.
I caressed my head and caught my breath.
Once again, I was about to die but I survived through the hazards of fate.
I tried asking who this individual was, but my throat only produced strange sounds, vaguely resembling words, although the person did not seem to be afraid of me, not like the others
-It's okay, I managed to get you established...kind of.
The husky took off the black coat he had on and put it on me, followed by a pair of gloves and also gave me a pair of dark pants.
I hadn't felt such warmth in a long time, both physically and emotionally.
No one had shown me affection for an eternity, it was such an odd feeling after all those years of being alone.
-What's your name?
I tried again to answer, but my voice made a twisted noise, barely understandable.
I got up with difficulty, heading back to the wall.
-Hey, be you gonna start hitting yourself again?...oh...
Using one of my sharp claws I began writing on the rock wall.
"V I N C E N T" " C U R S E D" " H E L P"
The gray dog looked at me, puzzled, he had a vague idea of what I was trying to say, but he still had many unanswered questions.
But despite all, the husky approached me, we locked eyes and then he placed his head against mine, as an owner would do with his puppy
He was showing me a lot of affection despite my appearance and barely knowing who I was.
-I know this might seem a bit odd, but I promise I won't leave you like this, I might not know who you are, or what are you…but just how I´ve arrived…I promise to stay.
Those words, as they crossed my head, brought tears to my eyes, and they were not out of sadness but of happiness.
“Maybe everything is going to be better”
…
“I hope so…”
