For most children, a trip to the dentist was a waking nightmare. Not so for Vicky, however, and not just because her teeth were always in pristine condition. No, the payoff for visiting the dentist was that her dad would always bring her with him back to the family recording studio after her appointment. Vicky loved the studio. Dad and Alex’s coworkers were always fun to hang out with, and there was always someone cool to meet.
Today was no exception, as the young beagle stepped into the breakroom, schoolbag and guitar case in hand. Sitting in the corner was a group she had met several times before. Her glance was drawn to one of the musicians in particular, a petite mouse with reddish brown hair. To her fans, she was the lead guitarist of Lift Throttle Oversteer. To Vicky, she was something even more important: her guitar teacher.
“Hey Kiddo!” Isa greeted her. “What brings you here on a school day?”
“Dentist appointment. No cavities!” Vicky smiled, showing a glimpse of her front teeth.
“Cool beans! I see you brought your guitar as well - gonna do your practicing while you’re here?”
“Uh-huh, an hour a day,” Vicky mimicked in affectionate jest.
“Goooood. Was just telling everyone how you’ve been doing. Wanna show ‘em?”
“Sure!” Vicky set her schoolbag and guitar case down, opening the latter. She gently removed her guitar and settled down in the booth opposite Isa, who reached for her own guitar. After a few practice strums, she started playing the chords she had learned, reciting the first verse in a soft voice.
If I had a hammer
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening
All over this land
I'd hammer out danger
I'd hammer out a warning
I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land
Isa joined in on the second verse, Vicky playing along as the mouse sang.
If I had a bell
I'd ring it in the morning
I'd ring it in the evening
All over this land
I'd ring out danger
I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land
Vicky resumed lead vocals for the third verse, Isa harmonizing.
If I had a song
I'd sing it in the morning
I'd sing it in the evening
All over this land
I'd sing out danger
I'd sing out a warning
I'd sing out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land
Well I got a hammer, Vicky sang.
And I got a bell, Isa responded, before joining with Vicky to finish the song.
And I got a Song. To. Sing. All over this land
It's the hammer of Justice
It's the bell of Freedom
It's the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land
It's the hammer of Justice
It's the bell of Freedom
It's the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this laa-aaa-aaand.
Let the rebuilding begin.
