A lounging bengal tiger spends some time grooming. You've got to keep those paws clean! Look at that pink tongue. So raspy. Can you imagine? A house cat's tongue is so sandpapery. So just think how this must feel. It works for combing that tiger fur though. Keepin' clean, as felines do.
Again, as my previous two submissions were, this is one of the many tigers at the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado. It was taken in September of 2018, on my birthday. I took the trip that day as I was celebrating alone and wanted to do something special. There are so many animals there with wide open expanses to roam, at least when compared to many zoos and sanctuaries. That's saying a lot with how improved most such places are these days. It's a wonderful sanctuary that could use as much support as it can get.
Unfortunately, one aspect of the distance was the need for a long lens without the aid of a tripod. The focus wasn't the greatest and often made one area crisp to the detriment of others right next to them. I'm hoping to upgrade my photography equipment sometime soon. These situations happen more often than not, which make for some frustrating results. I'll go through so many photos just to have a few worth sharing. I also understand the orange is a bit intense. I use specialized photo-editing software with many elements to work with. One of my favorite areas involves creating a sort of sunset-like effect in photos like this. The lighting as if the sun is setting, that is. It's sort of a gloomy aura. I rather like it, but it can intensify some color channels. I'm working on this. It looks much different with say a snow leopard verses a tiger. Thus you end up with this sunny stripey cat. Well, I still like it. Mrow!
I'd really like to make a living with my photography and writing. Perhaps someday I shall. Anything I make from the animals at sanctuaries like this will be split with the facilities. Though photography as a vocation is so far a dream. I'll certainly let followers here know if I ever make a profit from it. Then we'll see what I can do for the animals as well. I always try to donate to zoos and sanctuaries regardless. I'm sure they're all being hit hard this year with the pandemic and lack of visitors. So anything anyone can give to them directly is more helpful than ever. https://www.wildanimalsanctuary.org/
I realize photography isn't the same as art, especially when commissioned. But, hopefully, there's still a chance people will support the endeavors of others on sites like this. If you have any particular animal you're interested in seeing, let me know. I have quite a backlog of photos taken over the years.
I also have a FineArtAmerica account for selling photos, however, I'm careful in keeping my public and private lives separate. Thus it would probably require a unique situation to have me link anyone there and bridge that divide. Let me know. I'll consider it. It might yet be the best way. FineArtAmerica offers a variety of good options for prints. I can, of course, get prints done myself. It just tends to cost more for me. Having professional photo printing equipment isn't something most people can afford. So we rely on other means for making our prints. Digital versions are a different story. Though keeping those from being spread without permission can be quite a challenge. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll see what I can do.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I'd appreciate it!
