Yet another Ajshar (one of the catfolk species of my setting) warrior, this time from the north-western highlands.
It's been a while since I've drawn a kitty warrior and some new armor design. I was having withdrawals. :P
Also, wall o' text incoming, as usual.

When the human empires of Laatven and Elaris started their colonization of Ajshari lands they mainly targeted the first kingdoms and empires they encountered, many of which were already in decline for different reasons. The technological level of the Ajshar was similar to that of the human invaders, with the exception of firearms, and the neighbouring nations quickly learned how to deal with this new threat.
Some states learned to use the harsh terrain of their homeland to defeat the invaders, rather than fighting head on, while others begun a race to arms that would put them on the same technological level of the humans, learning to craft their own firearms and adapting their use to their own fighting styles. Most of the attempts at further expansion from Laatven and Elaris past this point ended in failure.
The warrior shown here is a high-caste member of his tribe, wearing a highly decorated armor with a human-styled breastplate, capable of even stopping musket or pistol fire to a certain degree. The rifle + bayonet is cutting edge technology as well: it uses a flintlock mechanism, unlike a wheellock or matchlock, that makes it much more reliable. The paper cartridges on his chest contain a lead ball plus the right quantity of black powder, allowing him to skip the "powder dosage" step when reloading.

Very cool, I'm sure any human invader would consider it an honour to get shot by him :D
He looks awesome! pieces like this makes me want to get back into doing more worldbuilding as well
it uses a flintlock mechanism, unlike a wheellock or flintlock
Did you mean "unlike a wheellock or matchlock" ?

Yes, indeed. XD Damn, I'm sleep deprived.
Thanks for that, I'll edit it now.

This looks so awesome! Really loving the decorated armor and weapon, and the braids in the cheekfluff!
Sing me a song

Anyway, excellent work.

Does he play bagpipes? I feel like he must know bagpipes!
Love the backstory as usual.

I see I wasn’t the only one whose mind went to Scotland on seeing the title.

The look on his face just screams, "Just turn around. Nothing for you here but a bullet to the face."
The humans acting gangsta till the cats start making their own guns...
Fantastic work and backstory - nice work on the Flintlock. Heh, just thought of how bad his face fur would smell after firing - lot of smoke from the pan and the vent in the breech during ignition.. That Charcoal, Sulpher and Saltpeter propellant smells like rotten eggs when ignited.
Hmmm I guess the Ajshar will work up their own Percussion system after a while to replace the Flintlocks. Something on the order of this :

Jump up and down! I wanna see your flopper! o:) Awesome work :) Your detail on armour and weapons (as well as the dude, obv.) never ceases to amaze :D
The inclusion of anti-firearm armor is a nice touch. I recently watched video on YouTube which explored the overlap in defensive vs offensive weapons and armor as Europe and the rest of the world transitioned from swords to firearms. It is interesting to see how gradual the process was in truth.
Awesome work like always very detailed and the musket acurate from what i see too
The patterns! They're too pretty! T_T Clever of the Ajshar to use the human's own technology against them. :D
Finally, a humans-invade story that doesn't end with "and the poor helpless natives were utterly crushed"! This is a really cool image; the design of the armor (and the designs on the armor) really work well together to create a unified aesthetic. I know some others were thinking Scotland, but for me it looks more like a central-Asian inspiration, with a bunch of originality thrown in! Thanks for posting it!
Ah, it's so awesome to see a catfolk warrior that's more technologically advanced than the typical 'sword-and-shield' barbarian or a knight stuck in a pseudo-Medieval era! :D Your world keeps developing and marching on, and that's one of the reasons I love your heroes and stories so much.
Gosh, this fellow's armor is so intricate! I like how the traditional patterns mix with a more modern cuirass, and that rifle is simply beautiful. I can easily see this guy totally kicking some Laatven soldier's butt! ;)

I beg your pardon but I believe that this character looks like a Khajiit from the Elder Scrolls series.
