I really should be studying for my uni exams but I also want to participate in the Express Yourself Contest.
So I made this track in one go (I usually refine the mix over a couple of days because of ear fatigue).
drum programming and bass sound design took me forever lol but it was fun.
I'd like to submit a second and third track, though I'm not sure if I have the time to make them. We'll see.
As for how this song expresses myself:
It's supposed to be a metaphor for how I experience life. I've been dealing with mental health issues since I was a child.
The arpeggiated melody resembles these thought patterns in the sense that it's always on my mind, seemingly never giving me a break.
I'm aware that stagnation is bad and that life is worth living, so there is a slight change in timbre over time.
The percussive elements should convey a driving force, be it expectations from others or just the wish for something more meaningful.
But things don't always go according to plan, which is why the rhythm gets changed up during some parts.
Occasionally perspective changing events happen. Something that does not always occur but leaves an impactful impression behind, figuratively shown by the bass.

Thanks! This was primarly intended to be a practice piece but I might turn it into an entire song in the future.
Though I have so many WIPs that I still want to finish ;w;

Ok several things:
1: Your sound design skills and style have my jaw on the floor, like oh my gOD. I am thoroughly impressed.
2: I relate way too hard to that description, and my respect for you as an artist is unfathomable.
3: I would d i e if you turned this into a longer track. (Please? Pretty please? ;3;)

that's really nice of you to say, thank you! :)
I'll try to make a longer version of this in the future. there's currently a lot going on work wise and I have to catch up on some uni topics.

I really like how this is painted to reflect your life experience, I particularly like the bass and arpeggio and their meaning's significance.
thanks!
in a way music is all about emotion, expression and feelings, to me at least.
every musician has their own style and own experiences that inspire them to create what they do.
your music is just as expressive :)

I made a track breakdown in case you‘re interested in hearing the individual layers/seeing the automation that goes into making these https://youtu.be/lTrUQbs-bs4

Already took a peak, but I'll have to rewatch it later. ^^ thy!
of course! :3 I was thinking about making more of these or maybe production tutorials or something.
despite my music not being perfect on a technical level or anything special in general, there are still things I do that might be interesting for some people out there.
