[[NMA]]Of Dragons and Dracology: Insignium - Vol. I
My travels once took me to the distant city of Stalagshire. For a dragon enthusiast like myself, it was like a home away from home. Can you imagine? Dragons and humans living together in harmony! I hadn't seen such a peaceful coexistence since helping my dear husband Astrix with the reformation of Firaak! Absolutely delighted to explore my surroundings, I set off to venturing around town to talk with the locals! During my initial few days in the city, I heard rumors of an elusive and large dragon by the name of Insignium. Locals described him as a hermit dragon -- a recluse who stayed far away from Stalagshire. The locals described him as "the largest red dragon they had ever seen," so naturally, I just had to go investigate! Tracking down Insignium's residence was a bit tricky -- harder than I would like to admit! But I suppose some of the excitement of whether I succeeded in my endeavor or not is dulled by the publication of this manuscript. It wouldn't be very fitting to title a book and release an empty collection of pages, though! That wouldn't be very scholarly at all! But I digress...
Insignium lived in a craggy mountain range on the outskirts of the city, certainly not as far from Stalagshire as I initially inferred. Given my research, I was certain to bring lots of delicious baked goods with me! I had a lot of helpful suggestions from humans and dragons alike in the town, and in knowing dragons, I know the best way to win them over is to sate their hunger. Don't let them know, however, that you are aware of that fact. Some of the scaled behemoths get quite annoyed or even angry when they think a mere human has them figured out. Indeed, we all know what they say about assumptions, so, should you come into contact with a deadly, scaly apex predator who insists on devouring you, offer them some bread or another baked good casually. Sure, an oro is a more balanced meal for a dragon, but try to tiptoe around that little issue; offering to get your would-be devourer more and better food usually leads to more agreeable arrangements for both parties! And you may even get a friend out of the deal.
Most of the rumors I had uncovered about Insignium were true: he was a grumpy recluse, and he was quite large. But he wasn't nearly as standoffish or unapproachable as I had been led to believe. The cookies, cakes and sweetbread may have helped, sure, but a dragon certainly is not required to invite you into his home after you feed him. Now permitted to enter the lair of the beast, I proceeded to follow Insignium into cavernous retreat. Insignium, or Siggy, as he didn't mind me calling him, lived in a very vast and complex network of caves inside of the sides of mountains. Difficult for all but the most prepared and determined to find, Siggy's lair was neat, organized and vast! After the both of us had settled in, I brought up the subject of Insignium's unique physiology, and I asked if I could document and explore him, and write my findings down for other readers to glean and digest. He wasn't...opposed to the idea -- more indifferent, really. Taking that as a good sign, I began my work.
Most of Insignium's body was fairly standard for a dragon. Hard, thick and powerful scales that repelled all but the most devastating attacks. The dragon's underplates were larger and more flexible, but no less defensible than the rest of his body. Given how large Siggy was, it took me quite a while to walk around him and study him from various angles and lightings. His scales had such a luxurious, metallic sheen to them, and the shade of red was simply stunning. I am not ashamed to admit I blushed more than a few times while being able to happily study such a handsome dragon! A very interesting aspect to Insignium that I had no previously seen before were the the series of spines that ran down the back of Siggy's neck all the way down his spine, back and even down half the length of his tail! I had thought them to be hair, at first, given how fine some of the spikes had been, but I was wrong! It certainly seemed to make sense why Siggy's species of dragon was called "stalagmus!"
With my inspection of Insignium's outside complete, I asked if it would be okay to see the inside of his jaws. That question usually goes one of two ways: I am either given an incredulous look, or I am met with a hungry slurp of a dragon's jaws. Again, Insignium seemed indifferent, but he opened his jaws, and I was able to climb right in. A large, thick and fat tongue awaited me. It wasn't forked as a serpent's tongue, and it was wide enough to fill the entire cavity of the dragon's lower jaw. My boots squished and squelched softly against the soft muscle, and they sank into the pliant surface while saliva rushed to meet them. Heated breath from the back of the dragon's mouth roiled all around me, making sweat start to trickle down the sides of my face as I began my examination of teeth the size of my entire body around me. Sharp and pristine, Insignium's teeth were indeed worthy of a magnificent, scaled behemoth -- a true apex predator with no rival. They were warm and wet to the touch, and each one could no doubt impale me and end my existence. Despite that little morbid tidbit floating in the back of my mind, I could see my reflection in Siggy's teeth, and I looked incredibly calm, so don't worry, dear reader: I knew I wasn't in any danger!
With the examination of Siggy's teeth done, I began to study that undulating, wriggling tongue beneath of my body. Many taste buds lined the muscle, and I steadily ran my hands over the budded surface. A loud groan and rumble erupted from the dragon's throat yawning before me, and Siggy's uvula quaked and swayed from the noise. It seemed he had enjoyed the sensation, so I began to rub more and more thoroughly. I was soon greeted with the relaxed rumbles of a happy dragon! Truly, there is no better sound in this world than that of a pleased, draconic rumble. So happy was I that I began to continue rubbing, failing to notice -- until too late -- as Siggy's jaws began to close around me...
An absolutely lovely commission I purchased from rimentus, featuring his big, red dragon Insignium! <3 I've always wanted to get something with Insignium, and I was absolutely thrilled to get picked for a slot from Rimentus's commissions! Please be sure to check out his page and give him your love and support! He definitely deserves it! And please favorite and comment on his submission here!

Siggy! <3 Getting invited into his lair is one thing, but who knew a tongue massage would earn you an invite even deeper inside?
Oh, I'm sure Siggy didn't intend to invite Danathius inward, but the mage is going to get that close inspection, whether he wants it or not!
The appearance of 'depth' with the shading of this maw is really good!
Its something I really like in maw pictures but its also something I find hard to come by ( done really well like this one that is), even I have a hard time with it, I may use pictures like this as future reference!
I wonder if the mage's friends who eat him aren't afraid that one day he won't have time to use protective magic? Thus will die
Don't worry! He has back up measures in such an event! :>
