Edit: The original submission was a minute long to fulfill the requirements for the contest, but I've since filled it out into it's own proper-length piece!
My third submission to the #Express_Yourself contest!
This time it's a straight chiptune. I was inspired by a lot of video game music which just loops and loops and loops... so it's a loop this time! That's why I called it "Ouroboros," too, since the tail-eating reptile is said to represent the cycle of rebirth a lot of ancient religions, it seems, believed in. It's actually a great metaphor; the piece is renewed every time by that diminished chord which ends it by bringing it back to the beginning!
It's two Game Boys running in emulators via an emulated link cable, which allows them to synchronize to play together at the same time. Even though it's two Game Boys, I decided to omit the drums that are possible on LSDJ since a lot of video game music on the GB doesn't actually have much percussion in it. That way, it sounds almost like you could be playing some epic GB boss fight or something like that. It also saved me the time programming them, since the piece is in 12/8 and I don't want to figure out how to do that in LSDJ. It was hard enough figuring out the parts I have as they are.
This time, I don't really have a great reason why it 'expresses' me. It expresses my love for video game music, chiptunes, and counterpoint, I guess, so there's that. Otherwise, it really is something that's just meant to be fun to listen to!
As an aside, it's incredible what bass the GB can actually produce. When you play games on it, you wouldn't think so, but it's got some power to it! I really leverage that in this piece, so get ready!
