Simply Captivated (1/4)
Jack smiled as he approached the building. A friend of his had suggested going to this particular gym. Not only was it cheap, but there were also quite a few attractive, single people who worked out here. His raccoonish grin widened as he remembered what his friend had said: “People come here all the time to find a date. Between working out and the lack of food courts nearby, they’re bound to be hungry and looking for a hearty meal!”
This was a perfect opportunity for Jack, as there was someone he’d seen here before. Though he wasn’t sure on the days they came for certain, he had hoped they’d be here today so he could finally ask them out. As he walked into the building and signed in, Jack quickly scanned the area. The person he was looking for usually came in the later evening hours. Having seen the man by happenstance, Jack felt a growing desire to get to know them.
He could not see any signs of the man this time around. Frustrated, he went over to a nearby machine and placed the pin in the weights he was looking for. Pangs of worry started to churn in his stomach as he looked at himself in the mirror on the opposing wall. The reflection was too far to see any details, but he could make out his black hair along with the grey and black fur patterns he had. He was only wearing an unbuttoned flannel shirt with the arms ripped out today. He hoped that the person he was into would find this attractive. Jack had to look his best to impress, after all!
The room felt oddly quiet. Jack had just barely come back from his thoughts to notice the few people who were exercising here had already left. The place was a 24-hour gym, but there were usually a lot fewer people at night. This was probably why the man would come here….
Jack clenched his fist and gritted his teeth, realizing how pathetic he must have looked. “You… idiot! Why didn’t you just ask him out before! You had SO many opportunities and you just… didn’t do it!” Jack felt the butterflies in his stomach turn tumultuous. Placing a hand to his forehead, Jack tried to calm himself down. It wasn’t working.
Jack could hear footsteps approaching him. It was probably the desk attendant. They probably came back here to clean some equipment and happened to notice Jack’s meltdown.
“Are you alright?” The voice asked. Its tone was soft, hinting toward a side of concern.
“Yeah….” Jack replied, now feeling hot with embarrassment. Even though there was no one here besides him and the attendant, he didn’t want to cause a scene. “Sorry.”
“Do you need a drink?” The voice asked, its tentative concern stating itself more prominently than before. “I have some water – unopened. You can have it if you’d like!” Jack heard the crinkle of plastic as it brushed past fabric. Was it a bag this person was carrying?
Jack released a finger from his head, allowing him to peek out at the hand that held a water bottle to him. Black paw pads beveled out from a cream-colored palm. On the backside of the hand, and going up the arm was a grey-colored fur. Jack jolted into a sitting position, mind filling with recognition. Looking up at the figure before him, Jack could see the face of a werewolf staring at him. Its green eyes were filled with the aforementioned concern. The mouth on their cream-colored muzzle was tilted to become a frown…. It was the man.
Jack looked at the bottle being handed to him. He smiled, gently taking it from the werewolf. “Thank you.” He placed it on the metal framework of the machine he sat at.
“Of course!” The werewolf’s concern faded as a smile appeared on his face. “Though, it seems you’ve got a lot on your mind. Dunno if you’re up for it, given I’m a stranger, but if you wanted to talk with someone about something, I can take an ear for you.”
Jack felt his cheeks begin to flush hot. How was he supposed to tell this man that his worries were about them? “Uh… but you don’t even know me.”
“No, but I’ve seen you.” The werewolf stated. They looked around themselves for a moment before spotting a chair and dragging it over. “You come in a little after I do, usually…. I catch you staring – gawking even.”
“Oh… you noticed?” Jack felt his already-through-the-roof embarrassment skyrocket. “I’m… sorry. I….” Jack felt his heart begin to beat rapidly.
“If it makes you feel any better, I get that a lot.” The werewolf snickered, leaning back in his chair. “People seem to like seeing my abs, and I honestly don’t mind! Been working hard on these bad boys so people would like me!”
“But… I would like you even without the abs,” Jack thought to himself…. At least he assumed he did. But he realized he had said it out loud when the werewolf stared blankly at him.
“What?” the werewolf asked.
“What?” Jack replied.
There was silence between them as Jack slowly realized he spoke out loud. He had to cover it up! “Uh… whaaaat I meant to say was that you are… very hot and I think I’d like to go on a date with you!” Jack became stiff as he realized his cover-up didn’t go as planned. The cat was out of the bag, and now the guy, who he didn’t even know the name of, knew Jack had a crush on him!
Another blank stare from the werewolf…. And then a wry grin. “Are you… hitting on me?”
“No… I mean yes!” Jack bit his tongue, realizing his emotions were getting the better of him. “Listen I… I’ve wanted to ask you out for a while. Dinner or a midnight snack… or something. I’d love to go on a date with you… get to know you and all!”
The werewolf stood up. His smile faded as he furrowed one of his brows. “Well, dinner for me is late at night for most… right now it’d be my ‘lunch’ time.”
Jack found himself staring at the werewolf’s abs. His mouth opened slightly as he looked. He shook himself back to reality when he saw the werewolf looking down at him. “Then lunch! I’ll take you out to lunch. It’s on me!”
“Were you staring at my abs?” the werewolf asked.
“Yes…. They look… really nice.” Jack blushed. He had always wondered what it was like to have abs like that. Comparing the werewolf’s belly to his own, the werewolf had a six-pack while he had a keg. He wasn’t wanting to admit to it, but part of him wanted to see what this werewolf would look like if their six-pack became a keg.
“You can touch ‘em if you like.” The werewolf smiled. “People ask that all the time!”
Jack felt the panic dissipate as he realized the calm nature of this werewolf. “So, what about it. Want a free lunch? Again, I’m paying!” With the werewolf’s permission, Jack bent over and placed a hand on the werewolf’s abs. He felt the fur was soft, but it was merely covering a bunch of rock-hard muscles. There was no give or squish to that… but Jack knew that any added padding on this werewolf would only make them cuter.
“Free lunch?” The werewolf asked. He didn’t flinch as Jack rubbed his belly. “I… s’pose it won’t hurt – but I gotta get back to the gym afterward.”
Jack continued to rub the werewolf’s abs for a few more seconds before retracting his hand. “I’m sure your abs wouldn’t be upset if you missed a day of exercise… they’re already rock-hard!” Smiling, Jack continued. “Besides, I know a place where the food is so good, you’ll start eating and never want to stop!”
“Never want to stop?” The werewolf smirked. “Almost sounds like a challenge at that point.”
“You in?” Jack asked, holding out a hand. “My name’s Jack.”
The werewolf looked at Jack’s hand before giving it a firm shake. “Sergeant Wolf, but everyone calls me Sarge…. And sure, I’d like to see if your claim is true anyway!”
