Picking up from the cliffhanger from last time… lets finish this thing!
Laughter or tears folks! This fight ENDS this chapter…
But what exactly will that achieve and who actually wins? That is a darn good question.
Anyway please enjoy, fav & comment, and have a great day~

“Even I know this is not how double team battles are supposed to be fought.”
“Noooooope.”
“And that this is not how Rose normally fights.”
“Well, you do know her better ’n me so will take your word on it but yeah. Can see that.”
From the front row the female members of Team Gero watched the battle unfold. Neoma sat up straight as she nervously darted her eyes between the two separate fights while Bea was slumped over, resting her elbow on the arena wall and her cheek on her fist, and keeping her eyes on Keith’s battle. Watching her idiot cousin being beaten on by AND beating on Rose like a drum. Normally she’d appreciate the wonderful view of the beautiful kangaskhan in action… but the whole situation soured it for her. “Well, you’re getting what you wanted Keith… doubt you’ll be happy ‘bout it…” she idly though as she watched the two hammer at each other, making a mental note of the visible bruising starting to crop up.
“Bea?”
“Huh? Y-yeah?” the seismitoad was jostled out of her thoughts as she glanced to her Greninja teammate. “Why does Eugene not just…” the ninja frog frowned a little as if she didn’t like what she was about to say before continuing “knock Petie out? It seems like it would be more… kind? More kind than to just let it keep dragging on like this.” Bea just blinked at the question… the sighed “Proooobably ‘cause he doesn’t wanna risk hurting him or can’t bring himself to hit the kid or something…?” she shrugged. She wasn’t super close with the croagunk admittedly but if she had to guess the guy was probably busy debating himself in circles about what to do. She honestly couldn’t remember the last time Eugne took his own initiative on anything since he’d joined the team. “Why? You want to wrap this up quick?”
“No… well… yes… but I think dragging the fight out has let Petie come up with a plan.”
“Huh?”
*****************
With just how badly Petie’s cheeks had swollen from all the Power-Up Punch jabs Eugene was almost relieved when the teddiursa stopped charging into his range. Sure he had a sneaking suspicion it wasn’t because the normal type was giving up… but it was a welcome break from smacking a pre-schooler. He wasn’t sure if it’d be more or less cruel to swap to Poison Jab now… sure it wasn’t super effective against the little bear but with the attack boosts from the punches it probably would hurt just as bad. The swelling would get even worse if he lucked into poisoning the bear too. Maybe he should just end this already… he did have a move saved up to do that…
KR-RRISH!! KRISH KRISH KRISH!
Eugene flinched at the unexpected sound of shattering ice coming from behind him. Unable to resist the temptation he turned to look…
*****************
Rose was breathing hard as she pumped her arms for another volley of punches. She was starting to regret fighting the poliwrath on his own terms… but it was too late to back out now.The struggle wasn’t just exhaustion setting in either. It took her literally beating it into him but Keith has started to figure out a way to sorta counter her Comet + Thunder Punch combo. For every flurry she launched half of them got thrown off target by Drain Punches to her arms… with the added effect of making it harder for her to make the damage stick. Add in that the moment she used Rest to try and heal he’d Wake-Up Slap the hell out of her and she was wearing down… the Shell Bell was only doing so much…
“Fine then. Lets change it up-”
Ducking back to avoid the chop aimed at her throat (she guessed Keith didn’t appreciate in fight commentary) Rose brought her arms up into the boxers stance she’d seen her Aunt use in the pro leagues. If quantity wasn’t doing it she’d opt for quality… it’s why she’d picked up Double Hit after all. The first blow seemed to catch Keith off guard since he was used to her weaker versions (combining a move with Comet Punch weakened the impact noticeably) as Rose brought her sparking fist into his face full force with a right hook. He recovered enough to bright his arms up to block… as Rose, again pulling from what she’d seen her aunt do, slid in close and drove her left fist hard into his gut right under his guard.
Rose watched him gag and slide backwards. Normally she’d give a witty remark (or what she hoped was witty) while pressing the attack but she opted to skip the commentary and just rushed in with her fists raised. Again Rose’s instincts urged her to bring her legs into play and kick him… but she’d played it this far mostly using her fists… might as well drive the point home through Keith’s thick skull. Take him on on his own terns and make sure he never questioned her strength and skills again. Even before she launched her next one-two electrified punch combo her instincts screamed at her that this had been a bad call… as she felt her fist painfully collide with something solid.
KR-RRISH!!
Even as the pain shot through her hand she brought the other one around and this time got to see what Keith had done in full detail. Swinging his own fist around in time with hers Rose saw he’d encased it in a block of ice, in the back of her mind she recognized it as a variation of Ice Punch, just as it clashed with her punch. The ice shattered in a sparkling display at the impact… thanks to the electricity diffusing through the shards rather than into Keith. Sure she could tell he was feeling the blows… but so was she and the sparks weren’t reaching him now.
“Lets see whose fists are tougher.” the poliwrath grunted out, sounding almost smug as he pressed the offense. Several things ran through Rose’s minds at that. She could tell he’d practiced this counter for Thunder Punch before and had just been holding onto it due to her flurry punches being a little too quick and erratic for it to work. She could also tell whatever training or conditioning he’d done it had hardened his fists along with the rest of him and she was the one getting the worst of this exchange. All of these were pressing concerns… but oddly enough the only thing running through her mind was-
“Oh, now YOU get to mouth off?”
“I’m a hypocrite, deal with it.”
Even as their punches collided and produced dazzling displays of sparks and ice Rose couldn’t help but note how bitter that comment had sounded.
*****************
Eugene winced as he watched the two juniors match each other punch for punch as he resisted the urge to rub his knuckles sympathetically. Quickly turning back around he decided he didn’t need to watch any more right now. He had more importantly things to focus on… like the fact Petie seemed to have put on a few pounds… or a few dozen. He vaguely remembered something about a “Screwed up Bulk Up” from some comment he’d overheard related to the bear… but he didn’t get any more time to stare, gape, and be confused as once again the teddiursa charged him-
Or… sorta charged him. Eugene narrowed his eyes as he watched Petie waddle, not the most dignified word for it but it was accurate, towards him with a determined pace. Swaying his arms and upper body again Eugene put aside his confusion for later. Much as he didn’t like it (and wasn’t sure why he did it) he had a duty to do. He’d figure out the bear’s plan as he went. Eyeing the bear as he got closer Eugene could see the radius where he could strike at him in his minds eye and the moment Petie crossed the threshold… his arm whipped out and smashed into the teddiursa’s cheek like before…
And only his remarkably unexpressive frog face kept Eugene’s panic from showing as instead of being knocked back or down like before Petie just grunted and pushed right through the Power-Up Punch. His other armed snaked out and slammed into Petie’s other cheek… and got the same reaction as the teddiursa just took another step forward. The gears immediately sped into overdrive in the croagunk’s head on what was happening.
Bulk-Up raised Petie’s defense along with his attack and, due to his screwy version of it, also made him heavier (or so Eugene assumed). He must have done it multiple times when Eugene’s back was turned or when Eugene had been lost in his thoughts after the bear stopped charging him. With the defense boost and weight Eugene’s attacks weren’t knocking him around like before meaning he could keep advancing. If the teddiursa knew enough about range to basically figure out Eugene’s reach then…
Petie was trying to get inside his circle.
Eugene instinctively took a step back as the bear took another step forward and whipped his arms out at Petie again. It was one of the first lessons he’d been taught when he’d tried to get battle tutoring back in grade school. Every fighter had a circle that defines how far they can reach, for melee fighters like him and Petie that circle was how long their limbs stretched. Keeping a fighter just outside your circle, especially if there’s was smaller, was the optimum tactic. You could hit them and they couldn’t hit you… but if they got inside that circle, especially close inside…
Croaking in panic as Petie kept advancing and he kept retreating, one step at a time. The bears now chubby arms acting as superior shields as he had them raised on either side of his head and kept moving forward through Eugene’s attacks. Taking the head and gut shots the croagunk rained down on him with only a grimace. If Petie got far enough inside his circle to actually start HITTING him with those short arms of his Eugene would be in massive trouble. The bear would have free reign to hammer his gut and he’d have no real way to fight back. If he tried to move to either side to get away the bear could try and dash past him into the fray too. Was it finally time to end it? Was there another option or did he have to knock Petie ou-
The feeling of ice shards and sparks on the back of his head made Eugene pull his retreat up short as he went wide eyed and realized what he’d almost done.
*****************
Petie had had a plan… sorta. He had to begrudgingly admit it was more a plan to make a plan based on what happened and that that was barely any better than one of Rose’s plans… but it’s all he had at the moment. Step one of the plan had been to spam Bulk-Up as much as he could and hope Eugene didn’t notice. He’d lucked out there since the frog seemed lost in his own thoughts then got distracted by Rose and Keith (Petie was forcing himself not to look back there… get past Eugene first, then deal with that). As much as he hated how heavy and weird it made him feel his messed up Bulk-Up did improve his defense which was vital for step two.
Aka waddling his fat butt over to Eugene and see what would happen. He’d guessed right that between the Bulk-Up and the Eviolite he was barely feeling or budging to Eugene’s strikes now and kept advancing (doing his best to ignore the exhaustion starting to set in from the earlier pummeling). At this point the plan had diverged into a couple different ideas based on what Eugene did… and Petie had lucked out again. The croagunk had backed up instead of letting him get close. Even with the attack boost he had (there was boosted muscle under all the baby fat from his move) Petie wasn’t sure Feint Attack or Fury Swipes would do much to the guy. He was reeeeally starting to regret picking out that as one of his starter moves… especially since he’d picked it just because he thought it’d be easy to learn.
Either way Eugene backing up was the best outcome he could hope for. All he had to do was keep advancing step-by-step and watch the croagunk back up closer and closer to the fight behind him. If he was lucky the guy would interrupt Keith and Rose’s fight for him… and if his luck didn’t hold and he caught on before that?
Petie had a plan for that too. An actual one this time.
*******************
Did Petie plan this from the start!? Did this baby-face little bear really think this far ahead!?
Questions like that raced through Eugene’s mind as he refused to let himself focus on them. There was more important things going on right now. If he retreated back another step he’d be in the middle of Keith and Rose’s brawl. The idea of how furious they might be if he barged in was secondary to the thought of what would happen to him if he got between those punches… so he couldn’t take another step back. He’d have to step forward.
His body responded on reflex at that point, moving into position even as the chain of thoughts flowed through the croagunk’s head. If he was gonna step forward then he had to go on the offensive… seriously this time. If he was going to go on a serious offensive then it was time to end this match. If he was going to end this match then it would have to be that move. All the while he twisted his arm around behind his back, turning his body so the opponent couldn’t see it or where it might be aiming as he coiled himself tightly. By the time he finished thinking “that move” the coil released and he lunged forward with his whole body, whipping his arm straight at the opponent with all his weight and might with a straight Drain Punch…
As the thought “You know, this COULD launch Petie clear across the arena into the wall” crossed his mind far, far too late to even try and pull the punch any…
And promptly became moot when the teddiursa, with an almost casual smoothness, slid to the side and turn his body while he did so. Making Eugene’s punch barely miss the tubby, jiggling, babyish tummy Petie was currently sporting and sail on past… taking Eugene with it. This was the downside of his finishing move. It put his whole body weight and all the momentum he could generate into one single punch… but if he missed he’d just thrown all his weight in one direction without any anchor to keep from falling over. Like he was doing now.
As he felt little hands grab his outstretched arm and twist.
*******************
Compared to the whatever-the-hell-he-was-doing earlier Petie found Eugene’s attack almost refreshingly easy to read. Even with the croagunk trying to hide it there was an obvious wind up, Petie knew where it was coming from, and he had a decent idea where it was going… meaning he could finally dodge one of Eugene’s attacks. Using what Taiho had tried to teach him about sliding your feet and adjusting your center of gravity the teddiursa slide one of his feet to the left… and the moment Eugene moved to attack he slid his other leg around to turn his body to the side as the attack shot past him with the speed of a bullet train.
Petie tried not to panic since he could feel how fast that punch had been moving and he’d wanted to dodge it by inches… not less than an inch. He almost wanted to check it didn’t tear a gash in his uniform it was so close and so fast. He didn’t have time though, Eugene was already falling forward and he had to act now. Taiho had mentioned stuff about balance and being off balance in his lessons about sumo… he’d especially mentioned things you could do when the other guy was off balance. Along with the other martial arts lessons he’d had Petie had cooked up something he really, really hope worked.
Grabbing Eugene’s arm Petie twisted and used it as a lever to slam the croagunk into the ground. At the same time he brought one leg up and fell into the frog, keeping a grip on his arm as he did so, till he slammed his raised knee into Eugene’s back with a very unusual take on a Feint Attack (he honestly didn’t think it’d work till he saw the dark energy around his knee). It definitely seemed to have an effect on Eugene at least. The guy was already seized up a bit in pain from his arm being twisted around and Petie dropping on him like this finally got him to openly cry out in pain and surprise. It seemed all that time spent trying to make Counter work and learning out reversals and submissions had paid off after all despite the failure. He still had Eugene’s arm in a hold and was now on the frog’s back…
As he realized he hadn’t planned for anything past this point. Struggling to keep a hold on Eugene’s arm Petie tried to figure out how to go from here to interrupting Keith and Rose’s fight… and was drawing a blank. The moment he let Eugene go the frog would throw him off and probably not miss his next shot. Worse the exhaustion from earlier was hitting him, he’d have to use Rest soon and that’d make him a sitting duck. Grunting and doing his best to leverage his weight to keep Eugene from pulling his arm free Petie adjusted his grip so he could get one hand free himself. Breathing hard and feeling his vision blurring he defaulted back to the barebones basics. If he was going down he’d at least try and claw the hell out the other guy first. He didn’t even know if Fury Swipes would work with one hand but what else could he do?
He swung his paw down at Eugene’s back…
*******************
Her initial shock, disgust, and disappointment for the way the juniors wanted to play this match (and the freshmen just… going along with it… sorta) aside the referee was almost bored as she watched it all unfold. Despite the higher-ups worries that this’d be some kind of grudge match and get ugly the older students were playing it pretty closely to the book… a badly written martial arts book maybe, but still nothing she needed to call any fouls on. As for the freshmen… the alakazam almost felt pity for the teddiursa. Her feelings about these tiny teens aside he was the only kid here who wasn’t gonna get his grade docked (at least) for this whole stupid fiasco. Trying so hard and getting nowhere…
But it looked like things were about to wrap up all the same. It was obvious the kangaskhan was reaching the end of her rope and the poliwrath could keep going. Their glorified street brawl would end any minute now. As for the freshmen… well, she couldn’t say she’d seen the teddiursa’s little turn around coming but it wasn’t enough. Sure he’d probably get praised for it in the grading but she could see how hard he was breathing and his blurry eyes. He might have the croagunk pinned but he wasn’t gonna be able to hold him and smacking clumsily at the back of the frog’s head wasn’t going to get the little bear anywhere.
And, as the bear pulled his hand back for another strike, the referee narrowed her eyes. Unless it was a trick of the light there was a faint… pink? It could be pink, it was hard to tell, aura around the teddiursa’s paw. Did he know any fairy moves? They hadn’t been on the list she’d been given for the match. Before she could consider it further though the glow was gone, fading away mid swing as the bear smacked the back of the croagunk’s head again. It hadn’t been bright enough or long lasting enough to be a proper move… so she decided to ignore it for now. Freshmen occasionally end up tapping into moves they can possibly learn by accident, wasn’t anything new. She’d just make mention of it in her write-up for the match and let the teachers deal with it.
*******************
In the stands Mam furiously tried to pretend she hadn’t seen that glow. She really, really, really wanted to pretend she hadn’t seen it. Seeing it had brought all her earlier thoughts about Petie’s trouble with Counter, his supposed Egg Move, back to her mind and the conjecture and assumptions from that. She’d already meddled enough, as the display in front of her made very clear, and the very last thing she needed was to know something about the teddiursa that she’d have to share with him…
No, not with him. If she was even remotely right then this was an insanely delicate piece of info. She couldn’t just out and tell Petie. Also meant telling Rose about it was right out. The kangaskhan and delicate info didn’t seem like anything less than a disastrous mix. Should she go over their heads maybe and find a way to contact Petie’s mother? If she did that and was wrong…
“And there they go…”
Joe’s comment snapped Mam out of her thoughts as she turned her attention back to the arena in time to see Rose and Petie slumping over.
*******************
Eugene winced as Petie clawed at him while her tried to pull his arm free. Even with how sloppy the strikes were the strength boost from Bulk-Up made Petie’s attacks sting… and also kept Eugene’s twisted arm in the bear’s grip. If he could just get it free he’d roll over immediately and… and suddenly he felt the chubby teddiursa just slump over on top of him, grip relaxed. Dumbfounded Eugene tugged his arm free as he lay there in confusion for a moment before he realize Petie wasn’t unconscious… he was asleep.
Immediately rolling free Eugene jumped to where the teddiursa had fallen. With Petie recovering from Rest he’d have to immediately take advantage of the moves downsides as he loomed over the bear and whipped his arm back. And held it there as he realized the moves “downsides” meant he’d be hitting a sleeping kid. He also realized just how infantile being asleep made Petie look as his swollen cheeks had returned to normal (aside from the Bulk-Up chub) now and he looked absolutely peaceful laying there. Guilt jabbed Eugene as he struggled to find it in him to actually hit the kid intentionally…
Just as the peaceful, angelic, infantile face made an ungodly noise and Eugene winced from the Snore. The jolt of pain, and lucky fact he didn’t Flinch, was the trigger he needed to bring his fist down on Petie with a Drain Punch… as he tried to block out the squeak noise the bear made on impact. He’d let this go on too long. The moment he had finished buffing his attack with Power-Up Punch he should have ended it. Bringing another Drain Punch down on Petie, and wincing at both the Snore and the squeak of pain from the bear, Eugene mentally kicked himself even as he pulled back to punch Petie again. This was all his fault. This was all his fault and he needed to end this now before-
Petie’s eyes fluttered open.
*******************
Sleep with Rest wasn’t like regular sleep. It’d taken Petie a little bit to get used to the fact that he’d wake up more or less aware… sure he didn’t know what happened while he was asleep but he remembered what was going on before hand. Which was enough to skip to initial confusion from just having woke up to process what was going on. First thing he notice? Paaaaaaaain.
Eugene had been pummeling him while he’d been asleep, no surprise there. Had his Snores had any effect? Did he manage to flinch the frog? As his eyes focused on the croagunk looming over him he had to assume no. Even with the extra defense, and layer of protective fat, Petie’s everything huuuuuurt. With Eugene right on top of him like this there wasn’t much he could do… except use Rest again.
Prepping for the move Petie’s mind raced to figure out what he’d do when he next woke up. Sure he could keep spamming Rest and Snore till he couldn’t do one or both of them anymore… but could he win like that or would he just be stalling? Maybe he’d get lucky and flinch Eugene. If he could do that maybe he could get up and get to a better spot before the frog could do anything about it. If he could get point blank with him again maybe, maybe he could turn things around. Then he could get to Rose an-
With a sudden impact like an explosion Petie’s world went dark.
*******************
Eugene’s right cross Drain Punch landed solidly and Petie’s head snapped to the side. He had to try and finish this before Petie used another Rest and dragged this on even further. Further than he’d let this drag on already. This fight had to end. He had to make it end. So he’d put all his strength into that punch hoping it’d be enough to bypass Petie’s defensive buffs…
And felt a mix of relief and guilty, inwardly directed disgust as he watched the bear slump back down, this time unconscious. Somewhere in the far, far distance Eugene could hear the referee declaring Petie was unable to battle but it didn’t really register with him. Sitting down hard he slumped over as well, mind swimming with doubt and dark thoughts. One drowning out all the others and deafening him to the idea he had won the fight…
“If you’d said something, ANYTHING, in the first place… would all this have happened?”
*******************
Rose could feel the electricity around her fists getting weaker with each strike… not to mention the growing bruises on her knuckles from repeatedly breaking ice with them. She was reaching the end of her rope… and the limit of her Thunder Punch. Her technique to combo her elemental punches with Comet Punch and Double Hit might weaken their force some… but it had the added effect of letting her perform them way more than normal. Spreading it out basically. Usually this wasn’t a problem since, with all three punches at her disposal, she could space it out so there was no chance of her running out of PP in a normal fight… but this wasn’t a normal fight.
She’d opted to stick with Thunder Punch during the brawl since it’d do the most damage (and the chance to paralyze him, but that’d failed). To beat Keith in a straight punch up she would have to somehow wear down his endurance with raw damage output… but she’d apparently been low balling just how much punishment the poliwrath could take. Either that or she’d gotten a little too confident in her own endurance. She was willing to consider that too since she admitted she’d let herself get too dependent on…
Putting that move out of her mind the kangaskhan did a quick self diagnostic. Her breathing was all over the place and heavy. She was swaying back and forth so her sense of balance was just about gone too. Beyond her aching knuckles her arms were throbbing and she was struggling to keep her boxing stance. To cap it off the weak bzzz of electricity around her tightly clinched fists told her she’d run dry on Thunder Punch. All her fighting instinct told her to fall back, shift focus to her legs, and try to use the saw in her messed up balance to evade Keith…
But she’d made the stupid decision to play it Keith’s way to prove… something to him… trying to think on non-combat stuff right now was risking breaking what little adrenaline high she had left. Whatever, she made that decision and she was going to stick with that bad call… no matter what the result would be. Which meant she’d reached that point she’d been dreading. She knew very well that having to do this meant the match was lost to her but… well, she’d made this call…
Petie’s earlier comment about this whole thing being stupid echoed in her ears as if rebutting her decision as Rose felt the blackness over take her as she used Rest.
*******************
Keith had won the battle of endurance.
The moment he saw Rose’s arms fall slack to her side and her upper body slump over he knew he had the kangaskhan where he wanted her. The work raising his attack and lower her defense, using his weaker fighting types moves as much as he could to save up his stronger ones, and doing his best to keep his stamina up even as she pummeled him… it had all been for this. Even before he heard the soft snoring he knew she’d used Rest and knew exactly what to do. He’d won the battle of endurance…
But that wasn’t a surprise, so what exactly did it prove?
Even as he threw himself forward and swung his arm at Rose the poliwrath couldn’t help but take stock and think back. Every part of his body ached from the beating but that was nothing new. His dad had been putting him through training since he was six to build his muscles and endurance. Feeling beat to hell was nothing new after years and years of agonizing training sessions designed to toughen him up and that molded him into who he was…
So why did he feel like shit right now?
His open hand collided with Rose’s face. The Wake-Up Slap echoed over the roar of the crowd as Rose was thrown to the side, now wide awake. Watching the kangaskhan crash to the ground Keith noted her earlier bruises had healed from the Rest… but judging by how she was gritting her teeth in pain the slap had helped make up the difference. Not waiting for her to try and get back up he advanced on her, his fist raised… only to pause briefly at a twitch of her foot.
He knew Rose had far more in her arsenal that what he’d been seeing. From the matches he watched to prep for this he’d seen she could do any of her punches with her kicks (something he still struggled to wrap his head around) and had a flowery style that could get evasive at a moments notice. Things that spat in the face of what his father had taught him. Of the “proper” style of fighting with your fists that had been drilled into his head. Keith watched Rose pull herself up and brings her arms back up to a boxing stance, making it clear he didn’t need to worry about anything fancy from her. She was fighting him on his terms, not hers…
Which meant, “proper” fight or not, this match went against everything he stood for as a battler.
The cold, cruel realization Keith had been trying to ignore sank into him as he brought a Brick Break hard into Rose’s gut. It also numbed him to the retaliatory Aerial Ace that slashed across his chest. Now the brawl was almost mechanical for Keith as the normal pain and pulse of combat was deadened for him. Past all his fathers strict teachings, past everything he’d been told to believe, he did have one thing he had personally decided to be true. One genuine personal belief he held… that a real one-on-one match between fighters should be with everything they had. Nothing held back so the truly better fighter won. And he’d let his asinine pride spit all over that believe.
Rose buckling as he drove his fists into her and the pain of her return blows was distant to Keith. Because of his stupid pride he’d pushed Rose to stand and fight him like he wanted. Not like she would if she was trying to win, not with her best. To fight him the way he wanted to prove herself to him… and what had this proved? That he could win this… [i[rigged[/i] match? Bea was right, he was an idiot. Heck, that toddler bear was right too… Keith had overheard him say something earlier about this…
This whole match was stupid.
Rose finally buckled at the knees after another Brick Break to the gut and Keith found himself standing over her, half expecting her to use Rest again to try and forcefully draw this out in hope of something changing. The look in her eyes told him that wasn’t a concern. She was still playing it his way. Lifting his fist up he wondered if he should apologize for this or just… say anything to her. No words came to mind though and it was far, far too late anyway. It was time to end this whole farce. He launched a Brick Break full force at Rose’s face to finish this-
GONG!!
“SONNUVABI-AAAARGAAH!!!”
And barely avoided cussing openly as his fist again collided with a clear barrier that held like steel against it. “Guess you felt that one.” Jarred out of his contemplative mental state by the impact Keith just gritted his teeth at Rose’s smarmy remark. He hated to admit it… but she wasn’t wrong. He liked to think his fists were the toughest part of his body but at this point in the match? He hadn’t realized how much they were aching till he’d punched Protect. He’d worn them down more than he expected with that Ice Punch stunt apparently and now Rose was mouthing off agai-
And his earlier comment about seeing whose fists were tougher came back to him making him almost smirk through the pain. Rose was going down fighting, good. This whole stupid thing wasn’t a total waste then. Pulling back his fist again he clenched it tight despite the pain and-
Took an Aerial Ace to the side making him grit his teeth harder. She was really going down fighting… good for her. Ignoring the feeling of Rose’s fist trying to dig its way through his kidneys or spleen or whatever organ was in his side (for a couple reasons his mind was blanking on anatomy at that moment) he brought his fist forward again. This time the Brick Break collided with the kangaskhan’s snout with full force and the kneeling girl was sent flying back. He fist came out of his side as she went and Keith found himself collapsing on one knee and wincing. He wanted to think that for a last blow that wasn’t too bad but he didn’t know if Rose was down or n-
“Rose is unable to battle!! Team Gero wins!”
The referees voice cleared up that last worry as he breathed a sigh of relief. It was over… except for whatever the fallout of this whole stupid thing would be. It slowly dawned on Keith that there might be consequences beyond just a bad grade since they’d made this so public. A dawning sense of dread followed closely by the usual sensation from coming down from an in-battle adrenalin rush… feeling all his pain at once. This kept any worries about having to answer to school authorities about this mess out of Keith’s head the old fashioned way…
As he blacked out and collapsed just as he saw the arena medics approaching him.

Double Act 3
Part 7 – Effort and Futility, Conclusion of the Battle

I know how my OCs would take this. Mainly they'd never agree to a battle with Keith's team even if it mean taking a hit to their grade. He's not worth the time for his views. He's left a bad impression on me as well. I just hope he really learned how dumb this all was.
He wasn't meant to come off good to be blunt, so no worries there. No comments on Eugene's stupidity though~? =P
Been there and know he's beating himself up already. Next time he'll just have to speak up more if at all, loudly.
I may be saying this wrong, but kind of reminds in anime when two characters fight to their fullest but it makes things worst (example Goku & Vegeta during the Majin Buu saga)
Kinda what I was going for. Rose and Keith wanted to settle things via a fight, to get an answer... and the answer was "Fighting doesn't solve this stuff"
