Gorilla Boots
The last footwear you will ever need.

The brand came highly recommended! At least, my search engine highly recommended the company. Their banner ads constantly bombarded my feed. Sue me, I like simians. That kind of push advertisement is pretty effective though. Also, it was time to buy a new pair of boots. Mine have holes starting to tear through the leather.
I stared down at the box. The boots shipped in a nondescript, brown cardboard box. Product of Gorilla City, West Hampton. Was it legal to mail things with a fake return address? If they were the wrong size sending them back was going to suck. This is the pricey you pay for internet browsing.
Inside were two, large, black leather boots. I had specifically wanted the brown too. Their website had been atrociously laid out. When you select brown fur boots you expect something warm and winter prep. These were just standard hiking boots. My first thought? This some kind of scam? But the boots themselves felt and smelled new. They had that acrid, metallic kind of smell you get from fresh treated leather.
Nothing to do but lace them up. It took me a minute to figure out what the heck was going on with these things. Normally the stores lace them. Plus, their smell made my brain feel funny. Whatever they had treated the leather with was probably super toxic. I would make sure to give them a good wash after I tried them on.
You know, I always start with my left foot. I do not know why. The kind of habits you get into as a kid. The boot was surprisingly tight. They looked really huge staring down at them. I just managed to slip it on, jamming my foot hard. It made my toes ache. These things better wear in and fit. Otherwise, I would be out a hundred bucks.
Ever try on shoes that are too short? You have this instinctive need to flex and spread out your toes. I had that in spades. I could feel the leather move around my toes. It hurt at first but felt better with every flex. It almost seemed like the boot wrapped around each of my digits. Their own personal toe massage! Flexing and spreading my big toe felt… just the best. It had to be some sort of ergonomic design. The boots gripped around my leg so tight. It was hard to see where it began, and I ended. In fact, it was so tight you could see clumps of hair pushing out through the leather. My feet had always been pretty hairy, the brown fur on my legs in particular.
Still. Time to put on the right boot. This one slipped on even harder. I could feel my arm muscles flex and force my foot inside. There was a loud ripping sound. My shirt was tearing! Why did I put on something so small? My shoulders flexed and burst out. Lucky thing or I might have choked. How did I even put this on in the first place? Strange. I could not remember getting dressed today.
Still. The boot needed to be laced and tied. It again felt so good to flex my toes. That supple leather wrapped around and helped them stretch into their proper shape. So much hair on my arms and legs now, it was hard to see what I was doing. The muscles in my legs felt strange. As soon as I got the boot on, I stood up, and immediately lumbered forwards. My arms were so long. The knuckles hit the floor and felt so right.
I bent down to check how the boots fit. My fingers twitched and flexed. Not the ones on my hands, but on my feet. Wait. Those were hands too. Stupid gorilla, I’d forget my own name if I could remember it. I stared down at each massive hand. All four. Why would I ever want to cover them up with boots? Either way it was time to hit the gym. The muscles in my body were dying to be used. I scratched my hairy chin.
Well, maybe grab some bananas on the way.

A gorgeous piece and a wonderful short story to go with it. You really know how to make great combos, Lostcat.
