Was Shayena completely alone and disliked by absolutely everyone in the pride? Of course not. Not all lions treated her equally badly or badly at all. Some pitied the poor orphan, and some even considered her their friend.
For example, Rudo, the son of a local lioness named Utamu. A good-natured dreamer who, from the very beginning, displayed his wanderlust and a craving for knowledge. He often kept the impulsive Shayena company on her secret excursions to the distant corners of the kingdom. Another cub by the name of Kilami would constantly hang around them as well. Almost a teenager by that point, however, unlike with all the other lions of the pride, his mane would not grow for some reason. It forced him to avoid the company of his age-mates and seek friends among younger cubs... none of which detracted from his personal qualities. Another one of Shayena's frequent companions was, odd as it may sound, an outcast-hyena named Charlie. Uncharacteristically friendly and optimistic, it was no surprise that his brethren hounded him relentlessly, while the cubs didn't mind his presence. Though, obviously, they never told any of the adults about him. It was Charlie's disposition that convinced Shayena that not all hyenas are brazen, mangy marauders and that there are decent individuals among them.
There were, of course, other lions and animals that Shayena had rather pleasant relationships with... but those three were the ones with whom she interacted best and she remembered this friendship for the rest of her life.
