Tacicala is a druid, a Guardian of the Forest and a Spirit of the Wild. Following her native traditions she is first and foremost a healer and a helper, but can fend herself well should danger approach. She cares for nature and its inhabitants and watches over their well-being while strongly connected to the spiritual world through visions, dreams and psychic abilities. She knows her way around plants and herbs and can quickly brew concoctions to her aid; such as herbal medicine and healing, refreshment and poisons. Her preferred weapon of choice is an enchanted yew bow, but she's also highly skilled in her tribes traditional hand-to-hand combat. But more than anything, she's a warm, kind and loving sweetheart~
This ref sheet was created for me by my good friend and very talented artist furydraws Please fav her original upload here >> and give her a watch if you haven't already! She was absolutely wonderful and amazing to work with, I can only give the highest of praise.
Yes, native american culture was key in her creation. We share the same totem animal. Now, I am very much a white girl myself but this is my way of honouring and high-lighting an important part of my life: My grandma was taught indigenous tradition and practices - especially spiritual ones - from an actual shaman, sadly I have forgotten which tribe it was. But, she taught my mother, and my mother taught me. These days I live far away and have no shaman to ask for advice, so I can only turn to the traditions and teachings I inherited. I'm quite proud of having that in my blood admittedly, as the backbone of my spirituality still heeds to the traditions I was taught already as a kid. And even when I'm out hunting or fishing, the killing of prey is sacred for me and nothing I do for fun. And for every prey I catch I make sure to feed a dozen others and I always use my catch to its fullest potential, letting almost nothing go to waste.
Why I got her? I've had a strong liking of deers ever since I was a kid. Had a fawn plushie (that ofc was named Bambi) that I was very fond of who was part of the design inspiration for this one. Then so happened about half a year ago, in a Discord server I'm in, that a joke arose about how deer are atop dragons in the food chain etc, and how we should all bow to our deer overlords. So that made me consider making a deer character. Then I saw a YCH a while ago that was really nice and I really wanted it... but wings were a no-go, so I couldn't apply with my dragoness. That made me really consider a deer and I started thinking about the character in my head.
That said, I first had the idea of making her a generic character that I could just play around with, but as I thought her out and shaped her she became very dear to me and is a character I have high respect for. She's my little druid / shaman, inspired from native american tradition. As with all my characters, she represents something very sincere and personal to me, and in this case, even spiritual. I was first going to name her Tacha (Tah'Cha) which was Lakota for deer, but I ended up with Tacicala for fawn, considering the deer plush that was the base of inspiration from her. Something warm, snuggly, soft and caring that brought a sense of serenity and safety.
