Yes it is!
I gotta admit, it is one reason I chose this one! ^^;

Hope the flames doesn't reflect the temperature of your computer. They can get quite hot especially some of these graphic cards.
Yeah, well it does have two fairly large fans and good ventilation, so I think it should be OK. ^_^
If anything else, I could alwayse install a third fan, seeing at there is a mount and vent for one -wO

I have a 3.0GHz P4 here that I still use for surfing and chatting that gets so hot could almost fry an egg on it. I do have a i7 that I use for gaming or drawing when the mood strikes that run so much cooler. Both in fairly large cases so that helps as well.
Oh, that can't be good! Maybe you should check your fan and vent for cloggage or something. It can't be good for a computer to get too hot.
My laptop gets hot too. I alwayse get worried when I use it because it gets so hot that it becomes very uncomfortable on my lap. I need to get one of those cooling stands for it, but can't afford the $60 they cost at the moment.

P4 are knows to be hot especially the faster ones. In fact, the heat was so bad that Intel abandoned the whole line all together and basically went back with what is essentially the PIIIs. And now with the i series, even cooler. My P4 uses like 200 watts of power while my much much faster i7 130 watts. They both run around 3GHz (I overclocked the 2.66 i7) and just one of the four cores of the i7 is faster than the single in the P4. Got a such great deal on it too just icing on the cake. Plus the P4 was a hand me down from work (they was going to toss it out but I found someone took off the harddrive off the boot list in the BIOS).
Sounds like your i7 is quite an awsome machine! Compared to your P4 at least.
200 watts, huh? Doesn't seem like much. My computer has a 700 watt power supply.

200 watts is a lot for just the processor alone. But yeah, my i7 so much faster than my P4. I ran some 3D benchmarks and my i7 with the GTX260 video card is over 20 times faster on some tests than my P4 with the 9800GT. I huge difference for sure and is something I hope to take advantage of when I restart my 3D modeling. Now right, playing games is a dream. I can go full bore and everything looks good. With the old computer, I can barely play online though the 9800GT made a huge difference. Before I got that card, the onboard Intel video sucked so hard that playing even old games was just about impossible and doing it online was even more so.
I bought the i7 as a refurbished unit earlier this year and got a great deal. Even now I can't build a system like that no where near the price I paid. A lot of this system was on the refurb market since the video card is so huge that it often slips out of its slot during shipping (they should have made a brace to hold it in place). Mine also had the massive heatsink popped off as well. Easy fixes but it too should have been mounted better than these four tiny (and fragile) clips. No wonder there was so many returns. But their mistakes in design is good for me as the price was so cheap.

Heh, yeah it's great to get those good deals when they come around, and buying a refurbished computer is like buying a bran new one, because they return it to the like new state before reselling it (usually. You do have to buy it from a reliasble source though) I was thinking about going with a refurbished computer, because they are cheaper, but I decided to go with this one. It may be refurbished, I donnow, it doesn't say, but I noticed that the product label is a bit worn. Though I don't care, cuz it works like new!
I love buying stuff on sale and often visit the deal sites. I am patient enough to wait and pounce on the good deal. Usually something I want ill go on sale sooner or later. My job at work primary deals with reworks (I am n electrical engineer) and I bought several refurbished items before. The only thing I don't like about it is that the warranties on refurbs are usually shorter than on the new products. But that doesn't bother me all that much.
Buying stuff on sale is a good thing! I usually won't buy anything unless it's a bargain price. Though, I'm not really good at that with stuff I want. ^_^;
I don't ever really care for the warranties, because the problems dont usually surface until right after the warranty expires. That is also true with autos, TVs, appliances, and just about anything else there is a warranty on.

I do the same thing and have no problem waiting unless I absolutely need it now. I still look for the best deals though. I knew a few people that is so impatient and impulsive that they 'must' have something right now. Usually something they don't need but want so bad that they jump at the highest prices. It drives me crazy and those kind of people are always broke too. I knew one guy that was constantly watching his checking account go below one dollar and worried that hi girlfriend wrote a check before he put anything in it. And the real crazy thing is he would use those check cashing places that charge a couple of percent off the amount even though he could do it free with his Credit Union account. Oh well, I am rambling now.
Anyway, I try to save money so when a good deal comes around, I can pounce on it before it is gone. And sales means I'll have the cash to jump n the next deal. Unlike that other guy who ends up paying top dollar for far less stuff (typically trinkets too).

That reminded me of when PS3 first came out. Since not many were released, people were selling them on eBay. I saw them going for as high as $5000!!! People are insane!
Yeah, some crazy high pricing for a little bit there. But I think it was mostly kids with rich parents wanting to be the first on the block with it fueling the craze. It sure dropped off quick after the first batch of suc... users dried up. I though it was fitting when some of the greedy sellers got stuck with it once the prices came down. Too slow to get in on the action.
I see a similar trend with what happen to the comic book and baseball card markets. I remember seeing baseball cards selling everywhere and I knew the market was going to take a dive soon. Way too many products that the market was way overflooded. It didn't take long after for the crash to occur. Only the early rare ones still have their value.
As for me, I tend to buy stuff I want or need. If I manage to come across something that I know will increase in value, I'll jump on that. But I don't usually speculate like that. I do have a collection of old electronic gear (being a bit of a rackdragon myself). That is more of a hobby though.

Yeah, that made me think, maybe I should try to get my hands on a PS4 when they first come out? If the same thing happens, then I'll be in quite a bit of money! Though there would be some risk.
I've been trying to buy only needs lately. I used to buy all kinds of nic-nacs and things, especially when it was a good price. I have gotten really good at it. There are still some things that get me, but sometimes want's become needs.

I say be careful if you are going to do this. It is all about timing. But I heard people can wait days (or even over a week) waiting in line for these kind of things. The money you gain in profit may be not worth all that time. I heard some people hire others to go in those lines but even than I think it is a too much of a hassle unless one have a large operation.
As for wants, I haven't been indulging myself all that much. I am pretty low maintenance anyway and the biggest thing I splurged on this year is my computer from several months back. Even than I got an awesome deal on it and I haven't updated in years, so it was about time. Plus it was my first system near the top in a long long time. Still would cost me more to build a equivalent computer even now.
When it comes for needs, I have a bad habit of waiting to the last minute. Sometimes that backfires on me but mostly works out. I do love it when the timing is perfect. boom! a sale right when I need it.

Waiting in a line for days/weeks? No way! I'll wait a few hours topps!
I've been fairly good with my splurges. I have had a time in the past where I spent near $600 in wants over two months! It was a bunch of little things, but they added up faster then I had anticipated! That is when I began to watch myself.
I'm bad about buying needs though. I hate going to the grocery store, so my cubbords are usually empty. Needless to say I go hungry a lot. Sometimes it's really bad, like when my car needs work. I usually wait until it breaks down before getting work done. ^_^;

I am very aware of the Opportunity Cost concept so I don't want to spend on something I don't need and not having money for something important. That is why I try to save like crazy. I hate borrowing money so I want to have an ample amount on hand if I need it. I also treat my credit card like cash, that is I don't charge anything over what I have in my savings. Plus I don't use a bank but a credit union instead, which is so much better.
By paying off my card in full when it is due, I never get charged any interest in addition of deferring the payment a whole month. It is like a debit card but without all the bad disadvantages. And I earn an extra month of interest on the savings. But the biggest gain is that it built my credit score super quick. The last time I checked, it was sitting at 820, which I hear is awesome one to have. One guy told me a bank wouldn't have any problem lending me a million dollars. He was impressed that much. The only thing is that one must have self control. So many people get into so much trouble with credit cards that it is insane. I have no problem with it so it benefited me immensely and realy not that hard to do.
I work on my own cars so that help a lot. I did had to farm out the transmission rebuild as I don't have the tools or skill to do that. However I removed and installed it back into the car. So an easy $2000 plus job was only $500. It took one weekend to pull it out and another to stuff it back in once it was rebuilt. Not something I want to do often though.
My cars is fully paid off too. They might not be as nice as a new one, I don't have to make payment. I hate making payments on anything if I can avoid it (which I been fairly good at). What I prefer is to save the money and buy it outright. I save tons on stuff without financing. I rarely buy new too. I know some people that won't touch used stuff but I am fine with it.
Ok, enough of me rambling on and on.

Heh, Yeah, I like to save too. I started saving when I had to take my car in to the shop when the brakes went out. It was over $500 to fix it. I had to put it on a credity card because I didn't have the money. After that I decided that I needed to have some extra money set aside in case of emergency. First my goal was a $500 cussion, then when I got that, I decided to go to $1000 ans so on. I now have about $5000 saved as a cussion. ;D
I try to work on my cars as much as I can myself to save money, but there are some things that I will leave to the professionals, such as brakes.
So far, I haven't got a car that i had to make payments on. I have bought two used cares, one for $1300 and the other for $2000. That was little enough that I was able to just save up the money and pay up front for them. I like to avoid making payments on things, but I'll do it sometimes to try to build up my credit. My credit WAS good, but there was some BS with a medical bill, that my job was supposed to have given me insurance and pay for. I ended up fighting the union for five months to get my insurance that I was supposed to have a year prior, during of which my bill went to collections, and destroyed my credit. I ended up being screwed anyway with the medical bill, and had to put it on a credit card. (this was before I had a money cussion). I just recently got my credit back out of the "poor" zone, but it is still in the "fair" zone. I origionally had it in the "good" zone! DAMN THAT UNION!

I am a bit of a car nut and have no problem rebuilding my brakes if need be. In fact, I converted my 71 Camaro to disc brakes in the rear (pretty involved conversion as I had to change out the master cylinder, proportion valve and the like. If I wasn't so lazy, I would have replaced the rubber brake lines on my 85 Trans Am with stainless steel flex hose. I actually bought them but haven't put it on as of yet.
I built my savings (actually money market account) to a good amount. Rebuilt as I should say as I had it nearly at my current level until a huge spat of drama killed it. It took a while to push it back up. I am pretty close to have the equivalent to my annual salary in there. The recommendation I heard is to save up at least 6 months worth. So almost double that is nice buffer indeed.
Now with my brother finally getting a job, he should start paying me back all the money loaned him all those years ago. The I will be in really good financial shape. I learn never to stick my neck out like that ever again.
I gave this guy the advice of starting off with putting just $10 out of every paycheck into a savings account and not touch it. I'm sure no one will miss such a small amount and would adjust to it quickly. Then I told him to bump it up $20 once he got used to it and so forth. But not only did he not do that, when he got a 10% raise, he would somehow spent it all and be constantly broke. He is a kind of person that always have a burning hole in his wallet and absolutely has to blow whatever money he has on any junk items he don't need. Drove me crazy watching that go down but I tried to help.

I didn't want to do the brakes since I really am not experienced with cars, and didn't have the right tools, and if something was to go wrong with it... I didn't want to chance it.
Wow, one year of your salery saved!? That's impressive! For me, that'd be like 20,000! I think if I were to be able to save that much, I'd lookinto buying a house! I know you can't buy a house for $20,000, but you can make a down payment, and then some!
It is hard to learn to start saving. It took me about a two years to get it down. I still have some trouble at times, but I think I'm doing fairly well. At least compared to the rest of my family I am. My mom for example has let her credit cards go WAY out of control! One mistake I will NEVER make! I think she told me she has half a million in debt. I think I'm gonna keep my only two cards, and will not allow for the credit limit to raise any more then it is. Two $3000 cards are more then enough, in fact, that's too much! But closing an account will reflect badly on my credit, so I'll just not use them much.

I am so used to saving that it is easy for me now. It is a matter of living below my means instead of going over it like that guy I mentioned. Even with that raise he couldn't save a dime. At the very least he could have took half of that raise and put it toward his savings. Get spend (well, waste) more and still have something building for a rainy day. But there is no teaching some people.
I always been mechanical (and electrical) oriented so brakes are no problem for me. I even rebuilt the calipers and drum brakes though the later tend to be a pain with a million springs. That is why I took pictures as I disassemble it so I know what order to slap the parts back together. But yeah, if you are not mechanically inclined, brakes are probably not the best place to start messing with even though they are pretty straight forward. Things like oil and air filter changes are easy enough that most people shouldn't have any problems with it. Those automobile repair manuals do come in handy.
I think people should at least know the basics about cars and its systems. I had a co-worker whose truck was overheating. She took it to a repair shop and they said it needs a new water pump and would cost something like $1500 to do. The water pump itself for her vehicle is around $40 to $60 or so. But the point was moot as I told here it sounds like a stuck water temperature valve and test it by (lightly) tapping on the water neck housing with a hammer when it overheated again.
She did that and it worked, the temps went down. A new valve was around $10 and she even did it herself. Saved tons over the repair shop, which I think was looking for a way to rip her off. A little bit of knowledge did wonders here. And with off those online resources, there is lots of troubleshooting info available. I know me visits to the sites and forums had really helped me on stuff I never seen before. Even if you don't do the work yourself, that extra knowledge will go in a long way from not getting ripped off.
I agree with some people can resist the temptation of abusing their credit cards. Maybe they should teach proper use of them at schools but I know the credit card companies will put a stop to that. They feed off these people and certainly don't want them not suckered in making payments that ends up three or even more times over the original amount. The only thing worse is the paycheck chasing and car title loans places. Legalize loan sharking places those are.

I've got pretty used to saving as well. I have yet to spend ANY of the money my roomate has given me for her half of the utilities. That's how I got the $5000 now! I have also been doing my best not to take any money from my savings account, and I put $25 in that account every month! If I ever have extra, I also try to put that into savings, though I don't have very much extra money often.
Oil and air filter should be things that EVERYONE should be able to do. I have only taken my car to the shop once to have oil changed, and that was only because I couldn't get that blasted bolt to budge! It was when I first bought the car. The previous owner torqued it down way too much! I have also replaced shocks, a starter, and belts. Those were relatively easy fixes I've found. My Chilton books were also a great help! The only thing that I have had trouble with was when I had to change my lock cylinder in my El Camino. The main reason was because I didn't have ANY of the necesary tools to disassemble the stearing colom, and had to go buy them at the hardware store when I to another tool I needed. On top of that, my car decided to break in the grocery store parking lot, so I ended up working on it there!
It is sometimes hard to resist spending with credit cards, which is why I no longer have them in my wallet. One of my credit cards is actually directly connected to my bank account, but, I don't plan to let it get out of control, so I should be fine. Yes, credit cards should be covered more in the highschool economics class.

Going back to the topic at hand, my biggest expense this year has been that quadcore computer I splurged. Well, that is aside from the (I hope final) loan to my brother so he can pay his house payment. His first paycheck is delayed till the end of the week. The people who supposed to approve the invoice (he is hired as an independent contractor for now similar to how I started) was out of town last week and the person who writes the checks out most of this week till Thursday. So I tied him over until then which he better pay me back. Well, strt to pay me back as he owes me a huge amount. That would really bring my saving up to where I'll be comfortable to make some investments with it.
Speaking of breaking down in odd places, I had plenty. One time the shaft of my lower balljoint (hows that for a double entendre) snapped as I pulled out of the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant. I was going less than 10 MPH but the lower A-arm slammed hard on the ground, forcing the spindle and front wheel backward and jammed into wheel well and shoved the fender so that it was hard to open the driver's side door. Mangled things up but I installed a new balljoint easy enough.
Another time I had a flat tire in a grocery parking lot. I tried to use some of that fix-a-flat stuff in a can but the bead separated from the rim so it didn't work. And this was in the rain too so I got soaking wet. At least it was close to home instead of across town. The would had really sucked.
My most recent adventure is when my fuel filter clogged and the car stopped running. Luckily that was only a few blocks away from home. It seems the filter goes bad every few years. I should just replace the thing every once in a while as a preventive measure. They only cost $10 and not a big deal of changing it. If I don't forget (and not so lazy).

Yeah, I'm hopping that this computer will be my biggest expence for the year. I just hope my sister doesn't trart trying to bum money off of me. She is buying a house right now, even though she is unemployed. She is making payments by bumming off of the government, her husband, her father-in-law, and my brother. Soon the income from my brother and her father-in-law will stop, because the in-law is moving out, and my brother won't pay her forever, especially with how she treats him! Also, my sister does NOT pay back.
I knew my sister was getting in way over her head as soon as my mom told me that she was going to buy a house. Now, not even 6 months after sighning the papers, she is bumming money from everyone. It is only a matter of time before she faces foreclosure, and I am NOT going to help her! She will never learn anything until she falls, and unfortunately, she is going to fall HARD, taking her husband and father-in-law with her.
I want to try to buy a house soon myself, before the economy recovers, but I AM aware of my limitations.
Heh, Sorry about that little rant there. My family drives me crazy!
Those are some unfortunate places to break down. I remember the time I got a flat driving home from work one night. I was about 3 miles away from town. I decided to go to the town that was closer to where I lived, but since it was past midnight, nothing was open. After trying to call my mom like 50 times until my phone nearly died, I ended up sleeping in my car, and of cource, it was like 54 degrees outside, and all I had was a dress shirt, and black slacks. Well in the morning, I found that the tire shop in the town I went to, didn't have ANY tires in my car's size, and since my mom REFUSED to come pick me up so I could go try to find the right tire size, I had to get a tow truck to take me to the other tire store in the other town charging me $100. Then that tire store decided to rip me off getting a new tire, I was charged another $100 to get ONE tire! Not to mention that the person I was dealing with was not in the least polite. Well I finally broke down and got the tire, just in time to go bakt to work! Needless to say, I was quite unhappy. That was the worst case I have had so far.

Oh I know all about family issues... all too well unfortunately. But I don't want to dwell on it.
I say buying right now while the prices is low is better than paying rent anytime. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the payments are similar. Just keep expenses low and have a good nestegg stored up just in case.
Oh the stories I can tell with my car adventures. Back when I worked retail, we had to wear these old school and hideous sock ties that was way out of style even back then. They finally allowed us to wear our own so I threw the old on in my car. It came in handy when the strap holding one of the exhaust pipe broke on the way home. It was raining like hell but I needed something to tie the pipe so it wouldn't be dragging on the ground. Grabbed the sock tie and used that to hold up the exhaust enough to get home. It worked but I was soaked. I can be a bit McGyverish when it comes to rigging things up to get home.
Another time is when the tire shop didn't tighten the nuts on my wheel tight enough. I was driving along fine until the back end started vibrating something fierce. I didn't want to stop on the narrow median so I began to pull over toward the shoulder. Almost made it there when the popped loose, held by two (out of five) nuts that backed out half way on the stud. The wheel was barely hanging on. I have these traction bars back there and it drop low enough to land and skid on the one at that side. Otherwise it could have really clammed hard and could have scrapped on the metal gas tank I had at the time (I have since put in a racing fuel cell). No real damage though I had to get a jack to lift the car enough to reattach the tire.
Of course I many other instances and mishaps I could tell but I think you have the idea. Lots of close calls too.

Oh goodness! Having the tire fall off would most definitely be bad! Especially with how I drive! (I like to go fast XD ) And on mountain roads no less!
I hope I don't have too many more auto adventures, at least none close together (like when my brakes went out and then the wheel barrings going out less then a month latter).
I hope you can dodge such adventures as well!

Well, my 71 Camaro has that 454 BBC and lets say I have a lead foot. Also lets say that going +90 MPH with the tire deciding to suddenly let go of its tread and ballooning the tire was an interesting experience. The 225/60 tire instantly turned into something much more narrow and taller. Good thing it didn't blow but the strip of tread banged around in the metal (not plastic like today's cars) wheelwell. A piece of the tread smacked the remote transmission filter of the automatic I ran at the time and sprayed the fluid all over the place including the Mustang that tried to keep up. I was able to limp back home by going slowly but I shy away from B.F.Goodwrench tires as I keep having bad luck with them. I also had two different tires by them forming a big bulge on the side.
One of them was on the inside of the tire where I couldn't see it. It vibrated like hell so I thought it was a wheel bearing going out. I took the tire off and that is when I saw the bubble. My mother even had a bubble form on her van as well. Odd having four B.F.Goodwrenches going bad like that.
Wheel falling off seems to be common also. It happened to my brother's 68 Camaro prior to my misadventure and he had traction bars that prevented the back of his car to scrape on the ground. Another time is when I carpooled with a neighbor and the some thing happened on the way home after driving like 50 miles. I happened on the second to the last turn to our home street. Odd watching the wheel go rolling by us followed by the drum brake. He didn't had traction bars so we slammed pretty hard and put a nice deep gouge on the asphalt from the lower shock mount dragging on the street. The scar lasted many years until the road got repaved.
Even before all that, someone I knew from high school had his tire fall off his 65 Mustang. He had traction bars like my brother and I (it's a muscle car thing) that really saved him since the Mustang's gas tank really hangs low and with the highway speeds he was going (everyone else and I was at lower speeds), there was a good chance he would tore a hole in the tank. With all that sparks, it would have been a flaming Mustang indeed.
And way before that, I saw a car in front of me with its wheel come flying off with the axle attached. It was some sort of GM vehicle that I can't recall the exact model but those axles are held on by a "C clip" that is known to be weak. Anyway, the wheel/axle combo went rolling down an embankment and right into some bushes and flowers of a motel. The driver was able to move his car to the shoulder and got out with the passenger, who started laughing after seeing what occurred. Of course the driver was pissed and the laughing passenger wasn't helping.
But that is just a taste of all the saga with cars and the fun stuff they do. I have tons more.

Wow... I'm checkin my lugnuts! lol!
I've never lost a wheel or seen that happen!
I feel bad for that guy who lost the axle. The passenger wouldn't have been laughing if they had to pay for that! I doubt it was cheap.
I do love the old metal cars! I hate that crappy plastic they are making cars with nowadayse. If you get in an accident in a metal car, at least you'll have a chance of serviving.

One of my many bad habits is slacking on preventive maintenance. I let things slide for far too long. But I usually know how to fix it when things do go bad. Oh the stories I can tell just that alone, hehe. If my car's axle pops out like that guy, I would have no problem repairing that. Even if the whole rear end is too torn up, I can get another from the salvage yard and replace it in a weekend.
I'm bad about preventative measures too ^_^; It took me like five flat tires before I got a spare! The difference is is that I'm not so experienced in automechanics, and my highschool class taught NOTHING!
I learn more by doing though I am mechanically inclined. I love working with my hands. I could have become a mechanical engineer but went with electrical in college. I got to the point where I can fix most things.
I could probably learn the same way. in fact, that is how I have learned everything I know so far. However, to do that, one must have tools and parts. All I got so far is a small ratchet set, and an air compresser. Also, you need a car that you can experiment with that won't hinder your transportation if something was to go wrong. I did finally get a second car, but I've been procrastinating on getting the first car fixed up because the parts are rather ecpensive, and difficult to come by.
Ah, the school of hard knocks. I took may course through that though I never got a degree. As for tools, I either get them used or get it with one of those sales that I love. I find a lot of it at the Harbor Freight stores that opened up around here.
Cheap Chinese made stuff but some good ones among the lot. Most of the tools are super cheaply made but good for a quick job here and there. Every once a while there is a gem hidden among the ruff. I follow a couple of forums that discuss the good and bad. With a little bit of knowledge, I can find some great deals.

Yeah, I hate poor tools. There is almost nothing that will annoy me more then having a tool break right in the middle of the job. For that reason, I aim for the better tools (whick also happen to be the more expensive).
I just hope I don't end up like my mom and get all my tools stolen!

Paying a little for for some tools that is worth it isn't so bad. But there are a lot of them so overpriced for what you get. I lot of the tools you find at Lowes and Home Depot are cheap China made stuff anyway. Even Sears starting to get filled with it. Might as well go to HF and pay less for essentially the same thing. Just got to avoid the really crappy items.
If it is something that I use everyday, I might go for the higher price gadgets. But if really has to worth the extra cash and not just for the name stickered on the side. Happily a little bit of research goes a long way.
One of the tools I use almost everyday is one of those multitools made by Gerber (which I got at an excellent deal of course). I love the Gerber style as I can slide it open with one hand as I often have the other occupied with what I am working on. The more common 'Leatherman' folding out style I hate as I have to use both of my paws to open it. Not nearly as convenient to use. Not sound much but I find the Gerbers far better.
I had stuff stolen including tools and that sucked mightily. Long story on that I won't get into but lets say it was a bit of drama involved in that. But that is in the past.

Gerber? As in the baby food?
I wouldn't know much about good tools other then looking for the tougher metals. I need to do some research before I go out to buy some. But knowing how lazy I am, I probably would just go out and ask the people at the hardware store or something. XD
My ma had past boyfriends that ALL picked tools they liked. Also some people who came to work on the house and my oldest bro's "friends". Meh. You can't trust anyone nowadays.

A different company that makes tools. Well, I don't think they are related, but Gerber is their name. Leatherman is more well known but I don't like their style.
Yeah, one can't trust anybody these days. I certainly had my share of lessons. Too bad they don't pass out degrees for that.

Haha! Seriously!
"you get the 'I will not be screwed over' degree"
What kind oif job would you get with that? Perhaps a lawyer or broker?

Wouldn't that be more like "I'll screw you royally" degree? My brother divorce lawyer did a number n him. A friend recommended him and he turned out to basically be an idiot. Not all lawyers are bad as I know someone from highschool days that gave me a bit of help. But a lot of them are just there to rake in the cash no matter what.
Hmmm, interesting how all this conversation started with computers, drifted to cars, worked its way to tools and now with lawyers.

Haha! Yah, that's why everyone hates lawyers!
Yes this conversation is going all over the place isn't it? That happens a lot in my family.

It's not like a few bad apples soils the good but there so many good ones that they are the exceptions.
Mmhmm, it certain gone way off topic long ago. Hehe. I think it is best to let out to pasture or this could go on for years.

I wonder what is the record for the longest active journal. Hehe.
Yeah, we've been talking for 16 days so far! That is for sure the longest discussion I have ever had with someone!
It has been that long? Hmmm. Well, I am starting to run out of things to say. The only topics left I can think of is online gaming and must super busy workload. But that would be boring. I could talk about more car problem misadventures but that can get depressing by the sheer number of mishaps over the years.
Oh, I know all about super busy workloads! Just the other week I worked 68 hours in a week! I'm just glad I'm not working doubles during finals (again). I think next time I have finals, I'm taking a vacation from work in order to study!
Yeah, in the last two months I got dumped with the workload almost as much as the whole of last year. It's been super crazy and getting worse. *.* Not only I have my usual stuff to work on (a lot more of it too) but lots of 'emergency' side projects stacked on top. We hired like 3-4 times in the production staff but I am the only one doing reword/quality in the lab. And there was a person that took over the warranty work (I did a big chunk of that too) for a bit and did some odds and ends rework when he wasn't busy with warranty. Unfortunately he is gone (no, I didn't eat him. I only do that to the lower scrubs that no one notices missing) and his replacement not up to speed yet.
I have a feeling it will be worse before it calms down... if ever. My lab it literary stacking up with incoming work and things like getting a jury summon last week not helping at all. A wasted work day on that Friday though it was nice to get away from the office. Just set me back yet another day.

Ah, lazy good for nothings. I know those too well. At my work I one employee comes and reads or watches TV all day! And another comes and SLEEPS!!! (it's long term care facility for the severely disabled). Honestly! How can they get away with that shit, when I get in trouble for being one minute late for work!? I swear, my boss is sexist >:c
Well, enough of that. Can't you tell that I just LOVE my job? XD
I know that my work load is going to increase. College starts next week for me. yay... Well I only signed up for two classes this semester, so hopefully I don't get totally swamped. The good thing is, is that it should start cooling down in the next few months (hopefully).

I got yet another 'emergency' project to do by Tuesday on top of all the insane (and still increasing) workload. I'll be busy doing that project instead of making any kind of dent in my pile. I guess I am too good at doing these project, which I usually don't mind doing as it is something different that the daily grind. But I am falling ever behind and need to get some relief soon or I am going to overflow out of my lab.
Back when I was in college, I worked part time while something like 3-4 courses a semester. Of course that too far longer to get my degree but I did eventually, a BS in electrical engineering.
I was working in retail back then and I had my share of the lazy, good for nothing co-workers. And they too seem to get away with everything and I had to pick up the slack. Like this one time I worked on the flor and ran around helping all the customers like mad with no one else in sight. I did that for half the day and when I went in the back to get something, I found the 3 other workers sitting with their chairs in a circle, chatting away. Right then the manager can downstairs and ask what there was doing. They stated they just got together to talk shop. He asked how long and they replied around 5 minute. He then told them to get back to work before walking back up to his office.
Well, as soon as the manager was out of sight, they all broke out in laughter as they was there for hours. I was pissed off as you can imagine. Bunch of bums.

Ugh! That reminds me of back when I was working at Vons. I was bagging for five check-stands for a few hours it seemed, and when I went to get something from the bakery, they were all chatting in the back of the bakery. I was quite pissed, but I did nothing because I probably would have gotten in trouble myself. That's just the way my life works. I remember getting bitched at for taking a piss!
Now, I luckily work entirely alone. There is literally NOONE at my work when I work other then the clients, ans they are usually sleeping. I only see other employees during shift change, and only see supervisers when I pick up my check. Though I still haven't escaped the bitching that I don't do my job from the other shifts, but it is SOOOOO nice not to have to deal with anyone directly!

Yeah, lots of slackers back at my old job. It was a big corporation and some people know how to work the system. Us hard workers are what kept everything from falling apart though our efforts was constantly challenged up upper management. The less they bother us, the better.
I work for a much smaller company now and there is much less of that. Slackers don't hide all that well when they don't have the numbers. Some politics but not like it was when I worked retail for that large company.
Despite being small, we are doing extremely well. Are sales are going through the roof. So much so that we are suffering growing pain. But as long as the engineering types remain in control, we will do great. Once the pencil pushers comes in is when we will get into trouble. Hopefully that won't happen for a long long time.

I work in a small place too, though the thing is, is management doesn't seem to care about the slackers. The owner has walked into someone sleeping on the job, and nothing was done! Though they make a big fuss if I should be a little late. Yeah, that makes sense. Well, that's why I'm going to college!
Doesn't sound like they are going to last long unless they are lucky to get a fat contract. I had a neighbor that had a juicy project with Coca-Cola and the bucks went flying. They wasted a lot of the money in unnecessary things. That is short term thinking for you, such good times tend not to last. I have a feeling that all that slacking is going to bite them in the ass on day. Get ready to bail when the day of reckoning comes.
That is why the company owners here are so focus on long term thinking. It got us through the lean times last year that could have killed us. A lot of small business go under due to cash flow problem and we plan it out so we didn't get into that situation. One bad thing about that is the bonuses, retirement plan (SEP) and any raises was put on hold. But we didn't layoff anybody though the workdays reduced for three weeks. However, things picked up so when got them back. And now all the groundwork paying off with the sales going through the roof. Of production double and even triple over normal.
Thing had been insanely busy for me for the last few months but I am happy to say this week was much calmer... so far. I probably jinxed myself so saying it but I surely welcome the relief. I just hope it last. I got done with last minute projects late last week and now finally got time to work on my usual stuff, though it has been slow going ramping up to speed.

My roommate keeps telling me that karma will come and bite those employees in the ass, but the thing is, is they have been working there fore five years or more, and they have always pulled their BS from nearly the beginning! I've come to believe that those employees are immune to anything at that place.
The place I work at is run by government funding, so the employer doesn't need to worry about sales at all. Just as long as the record books look pretty for the state investigations, she doesn't care what goes on (except for when I am bitched about of coarse).
Well, at least the pay is fairly good, especially when I am doing a whole butt-load of double-shifts!

Maybe they have some dirt on someone higher up. Either that or related. If I remember, one of the bums was a nephew of the manager or something like that. Another was way overpaid for what little he did but was 'dumped' on us (a new store and we had to take him as part of a backdoor deal). He was a minority so we couldn't do anything to get rid of him and all the other stores new about him so they won't accept any transfers. Our manager didn't want him (he is one of the rare ones that actually climbed through the ranks and know what it is like on the floor, so he was cool) but he was new and that was his first store and didn't get any choice on the matter. As a result, the rest of the 'core' took up the slack.
Thankfully that guy eventually quit (thank god) but other problems came about like boneheaded upper management. The best managers tend to be the ones that get out of the way and let up do our jobs. The worst tried to do everything their own way despite being painfully obvious that it hurts the process rather than help. Some even keep doing it even though they themselves lmow the problems it creates. It would be much better to admit the mistakes than keep doing stupid things over and over.
It was funny how the once climbing company stalled and faltered like that over the years. The stocks was high and going ever higher but the dumb management started to catch up and the stocks tanked.
What I suggest is to save like crazy cause soon or later, the party going to be over. Be ready for it.

I'm not sure if they have any "dirt" or not, But we all do know where the boss's house is (at least one of them). It may be that it is hard to get people to work there, or that the boss simply doesn't care as long as the records look good. I think it is the latter. She will only write someone up if it costs her money, makes her have paperwork, attracts the state's attention, or results in a client's death! I remember one person did cause a client's death, because when she had to take the client to the hospital (or called a medic) she did not provide ANY medical information, and left the client at the hospital. Since the hospital didn't have the information on the client's allergies or fluid intake limit, the client ended up passing away. And the bitch that caused it didn't even get written up because they couldn't really determine without a doubt that her actions caused the client's death. That same employee has stolen clothes and food from the clients, abused the clients, and is still working there!
I swear, that is one person I wouldn't mind dieing!

I guess every place has one really bad apple. The one we had at my current employment is long gone. Goes, the trouble he caused is extraordinary. And the sad thing was that it was all totally unnecessary. He had a good job with good pay, but he basically threw it all away for nothing. *shakes hi head.* I have no idea how people can be so self-destructive like that. Oh well, I am rambling again.
Yeah, I think at every place there is a bad apple, but where I work, It seems like a bad bunch! Meh! Whatever. As long as the checks ceep comin, i guess I'll stay. Well, until I find a place that pays more at least! Or until I graduate with a degree, whichever comes first.
*nods* Yeah, I was stuck at my old job for 11 years even after I graduated. It got pretty bad at the end. Now it is much better though I am getting busy again. I guess it is good to be needed but it can be a bit much.
Well someone at my place finally got fired. All he did was, got caught sleeping at work repeatedly, wasn't doing any of his work for god knows how long, coming to work drunk, yelling profanity and threats at other staff, and said he had to "get rough" with the clients.
Wow.
That one actually took me completely by surprise! I thought he was one of he good ones! Makes me wonder what else goes on in that place.

Kinda reminds me of ol' Cliff. While he wasn't sleeping, he came in with the breath of alcohol a few times. Turns out he was slacking off quite a bit. Eventually he got fired for not showing up a few times. Turns out he wasn't doing some of his work as we found a boxes of untouched stuff under his desk. Plus someone saw him soldered on a part and then unsoldered it over and over one day.
And apparently he had a bottle of whiskey stashed somewhere at work as he came in after he got fired and someone saw him leave with that bottle. And another person looked at his emails and found out his grandmother wasn't sick like the stories he been telling as well. He had a whole series of stories and living some sort of second life. Kinda bizarre looking back at it. I have no idea why someone would do that but I guess it was an attempt to hide his alcohol problem.

Amazing how people can come to work drunk, and not get reprimanded for it. It's amazing that people can get away with coming to work, and doing NOTHING at all! And then the people that DO work get in trouble! But apparently that happens in every work place. In today's society, the lazy slackers are encouraged, and the actual workers are threatened and treated like dirt.
He didn't act all that drunk, just some under his breath. He started well before i did so I guess he knew how to play the system. Plus he wasn't all that bad of a fellow, just had some demons in his closet I imagine. I exterminated all of mine... well, except for the two that escaped but I don't think they will ever showed their face around here ever again. But that is another story.
It amazes me how people just throw away their job on the most stupidest of things. The stories I could tell. Hurts my head just thinking about it.

No kidding! And when they loose their job like that, it makes it so much harder to find another job. Especially in today's economy!
The last I heard a while ago is that he went to the temp agency we use and got a job at another electronic company. If he can manage to keep off the bottle, he should do ok.
I live in TeXaS and the economy here is not too bad despite the best efforts of out 'esteem' Governor doing his hardest to screw things up. The company I work for like tripled in size. It;s been crazy mad over here.
Well, going back toward the original topic, I just got the 28 inch monitor I ordered. That thing is huge and has a very nice picture. I mainly got it got the 1920x1200 resolution for my so-called arts and gaming on my quadcore machine. I moved the 25 inch LCD down to my 'everyday' computer, which I am using a backup system as the computer I normally used died.
It seemed the capacitors on the motherboard crapped out (the old swelling problem that plague a lot of computers several years ago). It was an older system by fine for chatting and surfing the net. I didn't want to use my main monster all the time so I was using the lesser system most of the time and saving the wear on my best one.
I bought the set of caps for only $4US and should be in a few days. I can solder them in no problem so hopefully that is all I need to get it back running again. I have this (and a whole boatload of other things) on my latest journal if you want to take a peek.
