how do you create that fur like texture? I used acrylics in my painting class and I could never even get close to anything like that.

I take a brush and make it splay out, with all the bristles spread. Then when I paint, it makes a series of lines, like hairs, instead of just one brush line. I also do a lot of my textures with white gesso - do a layer of color, then do a layer of bristley, fur strokes with gesso, then wash color over it. Doing lots of layers like that (gesso texture, then wash, then gesso, then wash) can give a really nice fur look.

ooOOoooo and thus gives it that nice feel of depth! now I need to put my woodcarving stuff away and break out the paints again! thanks so much for the tip!
