The following chapter contains DiD and mild GiD. Digimon Tamers its characters are properties of Toei Animation.
"The digital gate!" Rika shouted.
Renamon, Takato, and Guilmon looked up to where the red-haired girl was pointing.
As had been the case for the past half-hour or so, a giant, dark-red cloud was hovering high above the buildings and streets of their city. Emanating from it to the ground was a thick, swirling pillar of the same color and material. It had been at a standstill since its inception, an incomplete portal of sorts between the "real" world and the Digital World.
That is, until now. When a massive horde of spider-like Digimon began descending out of it, dangling and lowering themselves down on thin green strands.
Parasimons. A breed of Digimon that resembled giant pink spiders. On each one's front was a large eye the width of its body and an array of many green tentacles. On their similarly-green backsides were their large, red-lipped mouths, adding to their bizarre appearance. The tentacles were currently being used to smoothly descend down to the surface, but that wasn't their primary purpose.
Parasimons got their name for their parasitic ability: using their many tentacles to ensnare any creature they choose, restrain and/or paralyze them, and ultimately possess the victim. Whomever they got would be bent to their every whim, all while they fed off the victim's life force to keep themselves strong. Any further details of how the possession process worked wasn't common knowledge, but it had been witnessed enough times to make them infamous creatures.
An individual Parasimon could be dangerous, but easily dispatchable; it didn't take a substantial amount to destroy one. In such massive numbers like this invasion, however, it was another story.
The first set of Parasimons to land caused immediate chaos. Many touched down on the tops of buildings and began crawling along the sides. Some busted through windows, resulting in horrified shocks and screams from the innocent workers and residents inside as the invading Digimon launched their tentacles towards them. Others landed on civilian cars, buses, trains, and any other kind of property, already endangering many dozens of lives well before any possession took place.
One woman could only sit in petrified terror as green tentacles rushed their way through her car window from above and wrapped tightly around her. The same thing was happening to all the passengers on the nearest train, atop from which multiple Parasimons reached in to snatch them up. Stuck inside, there was no way for them to escape.
It was the same story everywhere else. Parasimons aggressively scurried along, their eight unsettling legs carrying them to easily keep up with any poor innocents trying to get away. Everyone cried out for help as they were captured. Some were ensnared by their legs as they ran; others had their arms pinned. A few were even directly tackled by the Parasimons, crying out in garbled screams as they were captured point-blank in a mass of tendrils assaulting their vision and face.
Crashes ensued, structures were being toppled, the panicked masses flooded the city. It was madness!
And it had attracted the attention of not just Takato, Rika, Guilmon, and Renamon, but their allies - both human and Digimon - as well. Henry was present, having needed to rush his way over alongside his friend Kenta, along with their respective partners Terriermon and MarineAngemon. Champion tamer Ryo and his Digimon had been summoned by Henry to help with the matter, and they arrived in the single, biomerged form of Justimon. Additionally, the solo Beelzemon had happened to be in the region, and the commotion had lured him into the increasingly frantic fray.
The tamed Digimon, knowing they needed as much strength as possible for this fight, had digivolved. Guilmon to Growlmon, Terriermon to Gargomon, and Renamon to Kyubimon. All charged into battle, ready to give it their all against this horde of parasitic invaders.
Gargomon fired first, barraging the closest Parasimon with nonstop firepower from his gun-hands. The creature screeched out, its massive eye going wide, before its form collapsed and disintegrated. This kept Gargomon from seeing another Parasimon's tentacles flying towards him. Thankfully, Growlmon was present, and fired a Pyro Sphere at the creature, similarly destroying him as well.
But it was clear that many, many more foes were to come.
"We need more power!" Takato shouted. "Growlmon, biomerge to Gallantmon!!"
The Digimon and his tamer's bodies began changing into solid forms of pure light, which then merged together into one. From this emerged a new Digimon, one wielding a powerful lance and decorated shield. He was encased entirely in white armor with red shoulder and knee blades, gold trimming decorating it all. He also majestically sported a massive, flowing red cape, and a helmet with Guilmon's face as a crest.
Ready to go, he charged into battle again.
MarineAngemon was nearly crying as she found herself surrounded by Parasimons, all of whom were laughing at the prospect of catching such a cute and innocent creature. She fired hearts at the enemy from the little heart-shaped symbol on her chest, but it only stunned them, and still couldn't keep up with how many were closing in.
Just as a few brought their vile, slithering tentacles around her middle, though, the newly-formed Gallantmon came swooping in. With trusty sword in hand, he sliced up the tentacles in one grand move, taking out a few Parasimons as well. He then flew back in and carried MarineAngemon away, dodging the many tentacles of the Parasimons as he blew several of them up with a powerful energy wave from his shield.
"MarineAngemon!" Gallantmon shouted, over the gunfire of the nearby Gargomon doing his best to mow down the army. "Go and help get these people to safety!"
The Digimon obliged with pleasure. She was easily the least fighting-based Digimon present, and so this role would suit her far more and reduce the casualty count as much as possible ... hopefully it wouldn't need to be for very long.
At the same time, Beelzemon soared higher up, blasting away the Parasimons on buildings and skyscrapers with his dual blasters. They would try to retaliate with a flurry of coils rushing towards him, but his shooting was far too fast for them to reach. However, he was blindsided when one Parasimon leapt off from its position and latched its large, spindly legs around him, followed by a volley of tentacles around his neck and arms.
Beelzemon swerved and sputtered around in reaction to the new massive weight on him. With a great deal of effort, he managed to pull his wrapped-up arm up to an angle that let him fire straight into the Parasimon's eye. Another deafening cry came out, and he felt the tentacles fade with the rest of the lone Parasimon.
And then, of course, there was Kyubimon.
In the form of her bright blue, glowing Dragon Wheel, she mowed down every one of the spider-like creatures she collided with. Left and right, they burst into blue flames before they could even attempt a proper attack or get out of the way, their tentacles and legs unable to match her speed. When the wheel halted, Kyubimon was airborne, and headed for one of the Parasimons as she descended. It used its tentacles to coil around her waist and yank aggressively. But this was a fatal mistake, as it then received nine fiery tails to the eye, destroying it instantly.
These Parasimon were not durable, Kyubimon noticed. But they had the quantity to make up for it.
She landed on all four of her white paws, a little bit away from Rika in front of a small market building.
Just in time to see her cornered by a lone Parasimon, looking at her with hunger in his singular eye.
"Well, well! Don't you look like a tasty treat!" he said. His voice, like all those of the army, resembled that of a stereotypical redneck, an odd combination to say the least.
He eagerly waved his tentacles in front of her, ready to go in for the frightened child.
But Kyubimon rammed into him with an electrifying headbutt, sending him straight into the market's wall. And with another mighty claw swipe, she finished him off.
In this new moment of reprieve amidst the hysteria, the Digimon turned to look at Rika. She in turned gazed back, just as silently and awkwardly.
Days had passed since their encounter with IceDevimon, and the fallout from their brief but bitter argument afterwards was still uncomfortably fresh. The two had barely spoken since, and what little they did see of each other consisted of mere basic courtesy and little else. Further, this was the first big threat they'd had to go up against since then. They had to approach it with their unity and coordination still on the rusty side, forced into action without any proper resolution.
Seconds passed between them. But a gasp from Rika brought them back to the situation at hand.
"Behind you!" she screamed.
Just as Kyubimon began to turn her head, over a dozen speeding tentacles were already wrapping around her. She snarled as they coiled around both forelegs and ultimately managed to get them bound together within a second. Her hindlegs met the same fate just as quickly. They ensnared her waist, her neck, and as she attempted to gnash them off with her teeth, a few more quickly wrapped her muzzle firmly shut.
As the two chuckling Parasimons responsible crawled over, their spastic tendrils yanked hard, pulling Kyubimon onto her side. And before she could fight back with a swipe of her tails or a swing of her bound claws, every one of them unleashed an intense electrical shock upon her.
"GRRMMMHHMHH!!!"
Kyubimon writhed and spasmed wildly, tugging her wrapped limbs in the paralyzing tendrils. Her white paws wiggled in every direction, her muscles bulged from the struggle and shock, her head shaking in agony. But the attack only got more and more intense. She tried to burn the tentacles with her tail as more came along, but they ended up wrapping them all together as well. As they tugged and wagged aggressively, the electricity assaulted them along with the rest of her body, keeping all power at bay.
She could do nothing as another Parasimon crawled its way over to Rika, who was trapped against the wall, and reached its tentacles towards her.
"NMH!!" Kyubimon screamed.
But then, she suddenly felt the paralyzing shock come to a dead halt, as a bright flash of light came from behind her.
Sure enough, Gallantmon had shown up just in the nick of time, unleashing another wave of energy upon the Parasimons binding and gagging Kyubimon, blowing them to bits. The tentacles faded away, as did the tentacles about to ensnare Rika once that Parasimon was given the same fate courtesy of the biomerged Digimon.
Rika breathed out a sigh of relief.
Kyubimon, however, could not bask in such gratitude. What she had just endured was so painful and so crippling to her body, that her digivolved form couldn't withstand it.
She felt herself changing, shrinking. Her four legs became two pairs of legs and arms, her nine tails reducing to one.
Soon, sprawled out on the ground was the familiar, lower-leveled form of Renamon.
"Nngh ..." Renamon moaned, placing a paw on her head. "No ..."
This was bad! The Parasimons had already managed to overpower her in a stronger form! Now, she found herself even worse off, in the middle of a swarm that seemed to be getting worse by the minute.
"We need to get you two out of here!" Gallantmon said, looking concerned over the downed Renamon.
"I can't just leave you all behind!" Rika protested. She pulled out her digivice, sliding her fingers through it urgently to find any way to boost up Renamon's data.
Renamon, meanwhile, noticed that she said 'I' and not 'we'.
"There's too many of these things!" Gallantmon protested. "They'll- HEY!!"
He was cut off as another group of Parasimon tentacles ensnared him, harshly yanking him back and forcing him to deal with them.
As if on cue, Renamon then had to grab Rika and spring away to avoid more tentacles coming down from above, on top of the market. As the coils missed, they waved about frantically, like desperate addicts coming up short of their much-needed fix.
Renamon did her best to jump and dodge her way through all the pandemonium, made especially difficult in her weakened state, the residuals of the onslaught still lingering in her bones. She leapt over Parasimons, being sure to double-kick one in the eye for good measure.
She ducked and rolled to evade the seemingly never-ending waves of tendrils coming after her, weaving out of the way of explosions caused by the fighting all around her. A gas station had blown up nearby, and she could feel the tinges of heat brushing lightly against her coat.
And most of all, she made sure to shield Rika. She kept the girl close to her chest, practically burying her face in her fur, keeping her as covered by her arms as possible.
But unfortunately, just as she was passing by the large glass window of one of the many skyscrapers, it burst into pieces thanks to a Parasimon flying through it.
Renamon tucked herself into a ball to protect Rika, taking the full brunt of the glass flying at her as well as the painful impact when she hit the ground, all of which damaged her even further. Rika came flying out of her arms, rolling several meters away. Thankfully, though, Renamon saw she appeared mostly unharmed.
"Dibs on the fox!" a hick-like voice then shouted.
"Aw, you always get the good ones!" another whined.
These voices could be heard as two sets of tentacles came forth in opposite directions.
One set coiled around Renamon, snaking securely around her waist, neck, and wrists. The other pulled Rika by the legs and pinned her arms to her sides.
Seemingly working together, the Parasimons responsible proceeded to rapidly drag the two partners away from one another.
"Rika!" Renamon shouted.
"Gah! Get off me!!" Rika screeched, struggling to get free.
As Renamon was separated from Rika, she winced as her fur and skin were dragged across the coarse, damaged pavement. More tentacles wound themselves around her shoulders, and even more went for her legs and knees to wrap them together. Renamon pulled her arms and twisted her curvy, coiled-up legs, but the Parasimon was far too excited to give up, as shown by the rapid, swarming movements of its tendrils.
She was brought feet-first to the spidery creature, whose one eye glared at her with great hunger.
"Mmmm! Don't you look tasty!" he proclaimed, as his tentacles snaked around her waist and one upper thigh.
Taste this.
It was a challenging fight to merely maneuver her coiled arms against the nonstop tentacles. But the still-sliding Renamon summoned ghostly blue flames to appear around her paws and feet. Once she was within striking distance, she unleashed a rapid set of punches and kicks at the Parasimon's massive eye, barely able to resist the coils that tried to hold her back.
With a piercing scream that nearly burst her ears, the Parasimon thrashed. In his final moments, his free tentacles went wild and his constriction around Renamon tightened. But they soon finally loosened around her slender form as he faded from existence.
Renamon got herself onto one knee and placed a paw on the other. Shaking to keep herself steady, she tried to take in a deep breath after the physical toil she was just put through.
Looking around, the city was still in complete catastrophic disarray. Parasimons continued to rampage all over. Their large size was causing great damage to nearly anything they came across. Their tentacles were spreading, frantically searching for any morsel to hopefully take over. Renamon could see Gargomon speeding through it all, eviscerating any Parasimon that came close to him. Beelzemon kept up his fight from above, tentacles decorating the skyline as they reached for him.
She only had those very few seconds to observe it all, though, for she was then quickly charged by yet another Parasimon. Renamon performed a deft backflip to leap over the creature, with the tentacles turning and bending to follow her arc. Her landing was not as smooth, with her collapsing onto her stomach, still nowhere near peak form. She had to roll away when the tentacles caught up, rushing to nab their delectable vixen.
She moved fast as she could, trying to launch herself back up. But the tentacles managed to grab her ankle, and a cluster of them began slithering up and squeezing her firm leg. They let out a shock as more prepared to bind her further.
"Gnngh!!" she hissed at the pain. Two more sets of tentacles came to wind around her face and chest, covering her mouth as they shocked her further. "Mrrmrph!!"
"Renamon!"
That shout came from Justimon. Seeing his ally in distress, he swooped in to her aid. He flew up to charge his attack, before slamming his arm to the ground to create a massive shockwave. This stunned every nearby foe, allowing him the chance to fire multiple orbs of lightning to deal with a Parasimon approaching him. After that, he turned around to give an immensely powerful kick to the Parasimon grabbing Renamon.
As the yellow fox lay in a daze, Justimon scooped her up in his arms. Hovering through the panicking city, he searched for any area that wasn't swarming with Parasimons, kicking away any that tried to ensnare him.
He eventually was able to find a relatively wide-open area in a nearby park, seemingly light on activity compared to the rest of Shinjuku. As he touched down, he looked at the Digimon he was cradling, making sure she wasn't too badly injured.
"Are you alright?" he asked.
Renamon winced in his arms. One eye was squeezed shut. Her coat was matted, bruises beginning to litter her digital body as the wind blew through the ruffled fur on her chest. She could barely say a word, the toll from the Parasimons having nearly knocked all the energy out of her.
And all while she had no clue what had become of Rika ...
The uselessness and vulnerability she felt right now were nearly unparalleled.
Just then, a loud, heavy array of cackling broke out around them, disrupting the minimal silence they'd been granted.
As Justimon looked up, Renamon could tell that his face had gone cold beneath his helmet.
"... Oh no ..." he uttered.
What he'd thought would be one of the safer places at the moment turned out to be one of the most harrowing. Over two dozen Parasimons had apparently seen the Digimon duo make their way there. And, seeing a prime opportunity, they had crawled their way over to their newest prey.
As soon as the first few got close enough, they fired out their tendrils. Justimon swung out at them, only for his arm to be wrapped by another Parasimon. He turned to slice the tentacles off, but then this gave the other Parasimon the opening to coil around his chest successfully.
Renamon side-flipped as a rapid flurry of tentacles went for her. They kept following wherever she went, fast and relentless, hungry to have her body for themselves. She stomped on a few to halt them in their tracks, but more soon came and forced her away.
She ducked and rolled to avoid some more, but when the move was finished she felt three tentacles nab her right wrist. They squeezed extra tightly and shocked her, until she fought through the pain enough to slice them off with her claws, the remaining coiled pieces sliding off her arm. A Diamond Storm was quick to follow, and destroyed two adjacent Parasimon, one of which had been the one to get her wrist.
But while she was busy fighting off just those two, it was allowing the rest of her pursuers to crawl their way closer to her. Just as she turned her attention to them, they charged at her. The freakishly flailing tentacles forced her to leap up high; she didn't have any planned landing, having to improvise and hope she didn't put herself in an even worse position.
It turned out her luck would not improve. More of the snakelike tentacles made their move and coiled around her at the hips, from three different directions. The Parasimons unleashed their vicious voltage, sending stunning jolts through her body that prevented her from reacting as more tentacles ensnared her furry chest. They wrapped around it in multiple directions, creating what looked like a heavy mesh net of green that fitted tightly to her form, strands of her fur barely peeking out.
Justimon was fighting his hardest, but the Parasimons had closed in on him as well, allowing their tentacles a greater chance at snatching him up. The sheer number of zipping green appendages was proving too much even for a powerful biomerged Digimon like him. Both biceps were firmly wrapped, and his ankles and shins had gotten bound together, forcing him to his knees.
Renamon was even worse off. With more tentacles darting towards her already-coiled frame, she knew there was little hope left. She summoned the strength she had remaining and fired off another Diamond Storm, the last one she knew she could perform. It got a few of the Parasimons to let her go as they met their ends, but still left plenty of tight, clinging tentacles on her. Even the ones she'd gotten rid of were swiftly replaced, and soon she found a few sets wrapping her upper arms to her sides.
Once that happened, there was no escape for her.
The vixen was lifted up several feet off the ground. Her long legs dangled as they were individually wrapped up, their sleekness squeezed with increasing intensity. She kicked and tossed them every which way, but it stopped the masses of tentacles by milliseconds at best. More came, every Parasimon wanting their share and competing to be the one who would end up possessing her. A bunch of tendrils also went for her head. They zipped over her face, forehead, a few even coiling around the tips of her ears. Her head and body reeled back, fighting the strain of the constriction and the shocks.
She looked over at Justimon, but found he was equally trapped. The Parasimon darted away with him, pulling him out of her sight.
"Justimo-mmrrmgh!!" Renamon called to him, but a cluster of tentacles happened to weave through her mouth. "Grrnghph!!" she moaned in disgust, feeling their taste and sliminess slithering around in her maw. More came to wrap over and plug her mouth completely, concealing her lower head in a sickly green that blocked most noise and all words from coming out.
"Mmmnnh!!" Renamon thrashed, twisting her body in midair, kicking her legs, trying to reach the tentacles with her claws to slice them even though they'd likely be instantly replaced.
"Gotcha now, foxy!" a Parasimon cackled.
"Yer ours now!"
At this point, so many tentacles had wrapped her that they overlapped. They formed thick coats around her chest and upper arms as well as her head and legs. Many tentacles crawled down her wrists and between her fingers, pulling them the directions opposite of which they tried to fight. Even her toes had a few coils squeezing them, and an eye was partially covered, bringing green to part of her vision. Not even her lush tail was safe from a several constrictions, particularly aching as it was yanked about!
She was thrown from one Parasimon to another in the most violent game of tug-o-war as they each clamored for her, overly-enthused to have her in their inescapable clutches. The herky-jerk momentum and abrupt tugs on her squeezed and assaulted body were enough to make her dizzy as her world could not keep still.
"Mmmgh! Hmmngph!!"
And as she kept struggling, Renamon felt herself starting to fade away. But it wasn't death, not even the slipping of her consciousness ... It was something else. Something unfamiliar, unable to be categorized. Like being transported to some other realm, or maybe some other state of being.
"Mmmhh ..."
The shock coursing through her bound and gagged body was starting to dull. Yet she didn't feel any less alive. Just ... not alive here.
Everything, all sounds and sights before her, were going away ... morphing into ...
Renamon's view was hazy. Mist and blur consumed all space around her. All she could see was dark purple with thin, barely visible streaks of pink, and flares of light which had no visible source. When she looked at her feet, there was no surface. She was walking on air ... or was it even air?
Despite the lack of any knowledge as to where she was, Renamon somehow felt no fear. No alarm in her mind telling her to be on guard, no caution she felt necessary to maintain.
A cloud of bright orange slowly began to expand from what was initially the smallest invisible dot. It radiated off her smooth yellow fur. Within her digital heart was something comforting, which seemed to summon her towards its source.
She walked through the cloud, soon finding herself within. There, she saw ...
Herself. And Rika. Talking to one another.
"You did it, Renamon!" Rika spoke.
Her voice carried an echo, putting extra weight onto each word. The girl looked far happier than Renamon could ever remember seeing her, as she looked up at her Digimon - the duplicate, at least - with great fondness. "I knew I could count on you! I'm so proud!"
Renamon's icy eyes lifted. She felt her chest start to pound ever so slightly. Although it was not directed at her - or was it? - those exclamations were heavenly to her ears. Things she had known she'd wanted to hear, but even she hadn't comprehended how uplifted they would make her feel.
She went still, not knowing how to react to what she was seeing and hearing.
That was when she saw Rika move in to wrap her arms around the other Renamon's leg. It was a rare show of affection from the hardened girl, but clearly genuine.
Except Renamon herself felt it.
When she looked down again, she saw that Rika was now there ... Or rather, she was where Rika and the other Renamon initially were. Her vision was still not clear, and even the touch of Rika's arms around her limb felt ... dreamlike. A little numb. Not quite how something like that should feel.
And yet Renamon found herself once again not caring. She brought her paws down onto Rika's shoulders, she herself not used to such physical gestures, but unable to resist the gentle smile that formed at the warmth that came with this moment.
"Come on!" Rika then shouted giddily. "The family's waiting! I want to introduce you!"
While Renamon could still feel the grip on her leg, Rika's voice was farther away. She turned towards it, and saw another copy of herself meters away. The grey mist had faded, and her copy's hand was being dragged by Rika into some shining orange light.
But in literally the blink of an eye, she was suddenly in that double's position again, being pulled by an obviously enthused girl.
The yellow Digimon felt her will begin to melt as she was guided into the light. What had started as a strange indifference to being thrust into this domain had turned into a blissful willingness to accept it. A quiet, subtle, yet irresistible joy deep within her that pushed away any and all hesitancy.
It was spreading, washing over any other judgement or rational thought, as if having become sentient and dragging her along in a similar manner to Rika.
The two friends walked in together. And as that force took hold, Renamon was not ready to leave this.
Nor able.
Rika kept herself huddled in the corner of an alley, trying to remain hidden behind the dumpster she'd found.
It was the only thing she could do. After being dragged away from Renamon by the Parasimon, she was shortly rescued by Gallantmon. The two of them were then forced to flee from the overwhelming number of reinforcements that arrived right after, and Gallantmon ultimately decided to bring her here for her own safety. Rika tried to protest, but Gallantmon insisted. She then tried to leave once he returned to the fight, but every time she thought the coast was clear, she would see several more Parasimons go scurrying by.
She was essentially trapped here. In possibly the safest location at this point, but with no way to go anywhere without being taken.
And no way to look for her partner.
She then saw a shadow come into view.
In her very first gut reaction, Rika was horrified that a Parasimon had found her. But once that initial fear passed, she could see that the shadow was clearly not of that shape.
In fact, it was shaped like ...
"Renamon!" Rika shouted.
She poked her head out from behind the dumpster, and sure enough, there she was.
Having last seen her Digimon being yanked away by tentacles, the yellow fox was truly a sight for sore eyes at the moment. Rika stood up and ran forward towards her, having forgotten about the risk of being seen by Parasimons in her own relief.
"Geez, you look like you've taken a beating!" she cried, noticing the bruises and ruffled fur. As happy as she was to see her, she cringed to think about what she'd endured in that battlefield.
She also noticed that Renamon didn't look so happy to see her. Not that she was always highly expressive anyway, but the completely neutral, even disinterested look on her face didn't sit well with Rika.
Was she really that cross with her? The thought brought a pang of guilt to Rika's stomach.
"Renamon?" she asked. "Are ... Is everything alright?"
The Digimon walked closer, ominously, in a state that was equal parts trancelike and threatening. It was beginning to scare the girl a little.
"Renamon ... What's- AGH!!!"
Out of nowhere, Renamon did the unthinkable: she raised an arm and slashed out at Rika.
Rika backed up at the last second, missing the attack by millimeters. She had to do it when Renamon struck again, her disinterested expression still not changing.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!" Rika screeched, scared out of her mind!
But Renamon just kept silent. She only continued to strike, not looking like she was urgent but clearly persistent. Rika had to sidestep her way out of being cornered, and ran several feet back to get some distance.
"Renamon, stop!! Please, what's happening to you?!"
The vixen then simply stood in place. The air was tense, with Rika waiting with an elevated heart rate for what her supposed friend was going to do next.
Until the Digimon levitated off her footpaws, curled her body inward, and spread her arms to launch hordes of diamonds straight towards Rika.
The human had to spring immediately to get cover, putting all the power possible in her legs to hide behind a stack of crates. They took the blow instead of her, but she could still feel the impact transferring from the crates to her. She brought her hands to the sides of her head and clenched her eyes shut, unable to help the little squeal of fright that ensued.
Renamon ... Why ...
"AHH!!"
She let out a much louder shriek when, right above her, she saw Renamon leap up on top of the crates. Never in her life had she felt so intimidated by her partner. Her heartless glare towered over her, those usually trustworthy eyes now holding a darkness, enhanced by the shadows that coated her in this position.
Once she saw Renamon's fists glow blue, Rika knew she had to move. She ran away just as Renamon tried to pounce on her. The fox kicked down as she landed, then kept towards her partner, a bit more quickly now.
Rika didn't have any choice; with no other paths available to her, she had to run out into the open.
Things didn't look any better there, though. She could still see her friends fighting the Parasimons, who were showing no signs of thinning out. They frantically darted around and retaliated with their tentacles. So many civilians were unable to escape, trapped in their clutches and being subjected to whatever process was done to ensure their possession.
... Possession ...
Rika gasped loudly, finally realizing what was happening to her partner.
She spun around, trying to suppress another cry from how close Renamon was to her now.
"Renamon, stop! This isn't you!!" Now seeing what was happening, the girl tried to get through to her. She didn't know how tight the Parasimon's control of her was, but she had to try!
Clearly, though, the control was great. The possessed fox didn't even seem to register what she was saying. She just pounced on her again, prompting Rika to dash out into the street.
She was very nearly run over by a speeding car, forced to jump onto it and roll off painfully. She scrambled back up to her feet as more vehicles came, sloppily running across the street, ignoring the honking horns and screeching tires that joined in with the sounds of the battle.
Renamon leapt from car to car with far greater ease, allowing her to quickly gain on Rika. Rika turned around and saw this, and began panting with terrified eyes as she continued her futile attempt to keep fleeing.
To be running in fear of the creature who days prior only wanted to protect her ... it tore at her heart.
And distracted her enough to be unable to dodge the car that, despite its driver's best efforts to brake, couldn't be stopped from running into her.
Rika was sent flying, off the road and onto the sidewalk.
As the carnage ensued all around her, the poor child could barely move. She curled up into a ball. Her eyes began welling up, and she squeezed them shut to prevent the tears from bursting out.
She was so badly hurt, in such a terrible place, unable to do anything ...
And as she strained to turn her head and look up, she saw Renamon now standing right over her.
Once again, no emotion permeated through her lifeless blue eyes. Once vibrant with a cool, mysterious aura that Rika admired, they now housed soulless emptiness and indifference, even in the face of her tamer's distress.
"Renamon ..." Rika said through her dry sobs. "Please ... snap out of it! I'm ... I-I'm your friend!"
In spite of what they'd been through lately, Rika had to still believe that.
"You can fight this ... I know you can ..."
But her expression of faith was falling on deaf yellow ears.
"Ooh, nice catch!" a nearby Parasimon said.
Rika could barely feel the tentacles winding around her. All she could focus on was her Digimon, standing and watching as her tamer was coiled up and captured in a cocoon of tendrils.
As the tentacles covered her eyes and took the sight of Renamon away from her, Rika could only whimper.
The Parasimon taking her chuckled. As did the Parasimon controlling Renamon in the distance.
Of all the ways this could have ended, Rika couldn't have imagined it being like this ...
... Just then, an explosion could be heard from farther away and higher above. Followed by what could only be described as an earthquake ravaging the entire city. Shock waves were radiating out, knocking around every living being at least a little.
Some were able to see the giant beam of white-hot energy shooting out of the dark-purple rift from which the Parasimons had arrived. It sped its way down and hit the streets below, creating the shockwaves. These massive waves then spread out. They passed all humans and most Digimon, but didn't directly harm them in any way.
The same could not be said, however, for the Parasimons.
They all screamed as, one by one, they were caught in a wave and destroyed in an instant. Their hyperactive, speeding bodies disappeared, as did their tentacles flailing at or grasping onto anyone, freeing all of the city's denizens.
Just as everyone was wondering what had even happened, a sleek, heroic figure came flying out of the rift, just as it closed itself off. He landed powerfully in the street, his red cape flying up before gently settling back down.
It was Justimon. Clearly, whatever had happened inside that rift, he was responsible for it. With the help of his allies, he had gotten free of the Parasimons. After that, it had become clear that the situation as it stood was becoming a losing battle. Thus, he decided to make a daring play to cut this fight off at its source, one that appeared to have paid off.
As he stood tall and triumphant, a few more shrieks signaled the last of the Parasimons vanishing away.
They left great devastation in their wake, but they themselves were no more.
Nor was their control over any captured victims.
With a startled gasp, Renamon suddenly found herself back in the city. Gone was the placating, comforting bliss thrust upon her by her possessor. Gone was her complacency, her ignorance, having no clue how much time had passed, no clue what was actually going on ... nor what she was actually doing.
It all came back in a blinding flash. Within a second, she went from continuing into that seemingly-endless light with Rika, to her much more complicated reality.
With how all of her senses and free will were pounded back into her so instantaneously, it all quickly overwhelmed her. She felt her whole body collapse, wobbling numbly until gravity took its hold and pulled her down in a stiff heap.
"Renamon!" Rika shouted. Clutching her stomach, the deeply pained girl barely managed to crawl her way over to greet her returned vixen partner.
The fox's eyes were closed. Her disheveled chest barely moved as she breathed. As her claws curled in, they scraped at the concrete beneath her. She released little gasps of air, feeling like some gargantuan weight was very slowly being lifted off of her.
Justimon rushed over to her as well, followed by Gallantmon and Gargomon.
"Are they all gone?" Gallantmon asked warily.
Justimon nodded. "With the rift's core destroyed, everything that came from it is destroyed too."
"And Beelzemon just told me he's seen none of them since," Gargomon added. "We're in the clear."
The group collectively sighed, thankful to see one another together and knowing they all survived this whole ordeal.
"Uhnn ... Rika ...?" Renamon began to stir.
"Renamon?" Rika asked back.
Renamon pressed her palms into the ground, struggling to lift her upper half.
She looked around. Rika was there indeed, her eyes brimming with heavy worry. She also saw her other friends and comrades. They were all looking down at her, each bearing prominent expressions of sympathy and worry.
As she let out a deep exhale, Renamon knew why. Even if she wasn't aware of any specific details, she knew all too well what had happened to her.
Rika reached a hand forward, looking like she was about to lay it on Renamon's shoulder ... but then paused, and drew it back in hesitation. Maybe apprehension, Renamon thought. Fear that her Digimon could turn on her again at any moment.
The battered Digimon turned her head to face the ground again. Away from the concerned faces, lest she feel their pity like needles to her already-shaken morale.
With the fight over, the tamers and their Digimon scoured the city and surveyed the damage. It was bad, no doubt; many were still recovering from their strange, violating possessions, reeling over the damage done to their homes and the structures they'd worked so hard to build and maintain. Loved ones reunited in heartfelt embraces, and authorities did their best to sift through the rubble and bring some order to everything.
As the sunset beamed on the horizon, the group of heroes that had fought so valiantly were gathered at Rika's place. Her mom was away on a photo shoot, but didn't mind visitors even in her absence. Most of them were inside, enthusiastically celebrating their victory, sharing stories of their encounters that day, and praising one another for their contributions. Takato and Guilmon were especially grateful that they had mastered their biomerged form in time for this, something they had first achieved fairly recently.
But one figure stood alone outside, watching the sunset, beautifully perched on the branch of a tall tree overlooking Rika's back deck.
As grateful as she was knowing the day had been saved, that didn't change what it meant for her: yet another challenge she had been unable to overcome. But this time, rather than Rika being endangered by some villainous entity she couldn't stop, she could have been the one to kill her. Many had tried to console Renamon, telling her that it wasn't her own doing, but the Parasimon and no one else. And she understood that to an extent ... it still was impossible to not put the fault on herself regardless.
It was practically in her nature by now.
It was also in stark contrast to how her allies fought. Two biomerged forms in Gallantmon and Justimon were fighting, wielding the greatest of power and performing the noblest of feats. By all accounts, the phenomenon of biomerging occurred when two partners were in the highest amount of unison and synergy, united in a common goal with the utmost determination on both their parts. It was considered by most to be one of the greatest accomplishments that could be achieved between Digimon and tamer. And indeed, they were spectacular, with Justimon even delivering the final blow despite looking too entrapped to escape.
But to the perched fox, those two were just reminders of how far she and Rika seemed to be from any sort of synchronization. Instead, she had let her own desires and delusions bring her into that Parasimon's control, turning her against her partner and friend.
"You coming in?"
Rika came to the back door and asked up to the perched Digimon. "We're about to eat. I mean, I know you don't eat what we do, but ..."
Renamon's head tilted down. "In a minute," she answered softly.
Rika said nothing else. But as she began to head back inside and close the sliding door, Renamon spoke again.
"Rika."
Her call caused the girl to pause, one foot on each side of the doorway.
"I ... I'm so sorry."
Rika's mouth dropped slightly. It was rare to hear her Digimon speak with such a frail tone. She could hear the hurt dripping in her voice. Even when she had made it clear that she didn't blame her, the wounds were still quite raw, and it didn't seem like they would mend easily.
Not knowing what else she could say, Rika opted for a simple, solemn, "I know."
She went back inside and closed the door, leaving Renamon to continue to stare out into the beautiful orange skyline, as the fading light bathed her lovely yellow coat.
They would talk this all out. Everything. They had to make sure of that.
But as for now, they both seemed to have an unspoken agreement that they'd been through more than enough for one day.
Where do I even start with this one?
By far the hardest one of these Renamon perils to do so far. It's the longest, has the most going on, and had me making constant changes as I realized what I had initially planned had issues. One of them being the exclusion of what had caused the Parasimon portal to appear in the first place. This was inspired by the Digimon Tamers half-hour special Runaway Locomon, in which a train Digimon is hijacked by a Parasimon to make him go at a crazy enough speed to create the portal for them to arrive ... and needing to explain that even in a summarized version just didn't seem like it'd add anything to the fic, so I just had it portrayed as a freak event here. Further, the special takes place after the series finale, whereas here it's shortly after the IceDevimon incident. So it's yet another instance of me building my own continuity for the story ...
... Or is it? ;)
Another struggle I had with this is trying to make the bondage distinct enough from the remaining fics I have left, which will both be based in some forms of coils. The answer, to me, came when I noticed just how fast and crazed the Parasimons were with their tentacles, and how quickly they can get the drop on the heroes with just one slip up. Because of that, the bondage is much more fast-paced here than the other stories, and so some of the details had to be sped up to capture that feel. I personally really like how that aspect turned out for what it's going for, but what did you think? :)
Those who know the special may also be wondering why I had Justimon save the day and not Gallantmon. Honestly, I just really wanted to have Justimon be wrapped up in that scene since I find his appearance the most eye-pleasing outside of Renamon. But with that change, I thought that having him in the savior role instead would be a somewhat better resolution. And yeah, I guess that means you could say there's GiD in this one, if relatively mild. If it makes you uncomfortable or ruins the fic, I apologize, but I thought it'd add a little extra spice to the situation. At least you've also got a brief bit of Kyubimon bondage in there! It was kind of my work-around to cancelling out Renamon's digivolutions without it getting too repetitive with the other stories, so a win-win all around! :D
Then, lastly, there's Renamon's possession. Another big change I made to the story in planning was actually having her be successfully taken over. I still was going to have the scene of her vision included, but she was then going to be saved right at the last second. But I just didn't want to pass up the chance to write a scene of possessed Renamon, not just in general but for the addition to the "journey" she and Rika are having. I think it's a good progression, and the ending may not be super upbeat, but it opens up the hope that they recognize they have things they need to mend.
Will they get that opportunity? We'll see in due time, won't we? Probably a while, as this story really took a lot out of me, and I've gotten so much keeping me occupied both at work and personally. But until Renamon's next peril comes about, thank you for reading through this one! It was definitely interesting to make, so hopefully it was interesting to read! :D

Thanks, though I'm curious about the way you'd do it because of the screenshot + art style you use, especially seeing which screenshot you'd choose for it.
Btw, this isn't a request, but a suggestion.
Btw, this isn't a request, but a suggestion.
I doubt I'd do it considering I don't care much about Guilmon as a captive. I appreciate the suggestion regardless!
By the way, did you check out the story that's attached to this image?
By the way, did you check out the story that's attached to this image?
I almost never check out the stories attached to art I give a favorite to.
Alright! Finally managed to give this a readthrough! ^^
Let me just say beforehand that, the moment you announced the titles to each story within this Anthology series, this one in particular stood out to me the most; and all due to the simple mention of 'parasites'. With that one word alone, a LOT of possibilities opened up in my brain when trying to think up how on God's green Earth this whole thing would go down, as well as what these 'parasites' would be...
Suffice to say, these Parasimons fell right in between what I was and wasn't expecting. I knew deep in my gut that the parasites were probably gonna be bug-related in some form or fashion since that's usually how I see some forms of parasites; mosquitos being a major factor for that. But giant spider-like creatures that speak with stereotypical redneck/hillbilly voices? That's...definitely a new one...! XD
As for the story itself, I really enjoyed it. Despite you saying it was the longest one you've made so far, it went by at a very rapid pace that seemed to fit it to a tee! Those multiple, varying segments of Renamon and Kyubimon getting swiftly bound up by the tendrils those Southern-spouting digital spiders were very properly detailed for how quick they went, and the last bit where Renamon's fully bound up in a foul-tasting cocoon and getting yanked back-and-forth by her captors 'tug-of-war' style as they fight over her was something special! ^^
And then there was the second half of the story, when Renamon gets possessed by them... Goddamn, if that wasn't so beautifully written! From that vision she had that eggs her into dropping her guard and making her will more malleable, to the cold and distant expressions her real form was making as it attacked Rika; all of it's quite spot on! It kinda makes me think of an alternate version of your Wild Hearts, Stifled Breathes, where Link's transformation into Dark Link became fully realized and lead to him attacking his friends; most particularly Mipha! And you know you did something good if you've gone and made me think back to my favorite story of yours! ^^
And that ending... Oof, the feels between them were so potent. Now, if only I had a somber but hopeful bit of music to play along with it... Oh, I know! The true and infinitely better version of 'Into the Unknown', of course! ^^

Overall, great story! I'd say my only nitpick is that if it were me writing this, I would've kept Gallantmon as the hero who saves the day instead of Justimon since I like his design more (for obvious reasons); but hey, personal preferences, and the latter's inclusion did help. Can't wait to see the next part! :)

Yeah, I figured it'd be close to impossible to correctly guess what it would be about if you don't know Digimon. Even some who do probably didn't catch the reference in the title! And indeed, the redneck voices were ... interesting choices, to say the least. But what matters most to me is what they can do, and what they can do makes for great potential for stories like this!
That is the funny thing. I don't know how much longer it would have been had I not condensed it to one chapter, considering how quickly everything's supposed to go by. I probably would've had more ways the tentacles chased and snatched our heroes, but the speed it all happened at may not have been much slower. Especially considering I want it to be different enough bondage-wise to the remaining fics. ;) (Though I definitely would have let the tug-o-war bit go on longer; that was my favorite moment for sure!)
Wow, awesome you felt that! :-D Admittedly it wasn't my initial idea in how Parasimon mentally subdue their victims (we saw it happen to Rika in the special), but I did come up with how it did it to Renamon specifically. With what she's been through emotionally the previous parts, how could that not be what does it for her? And oh yeah, I did for sure think back on WH,SB and how this is a lot of what that could have been had that transformation went through. While I still stand by that choice, here it couldn't be passed up.
Damn, that is a good selection for this! One of the best you've suggested for any of my chapters! Though I'm certainly a fan of the original Into the Unknown, this is equal to it in a very different way! Also really happy you liked the ending that much anyway. Calling it "potent" is a great compliment, thank you! :-D
And thank you for the feedback on the whole story! Though it seems I can't manage to write one of these without doing something you'd have done slightly differently, but oh well! As usual, I let what I wanted to see most be what ended up happening, and make that the best version of it I can!

Of course! Their main method of speaking may be more unorthodox than usual, but in the end, their inclusion in a story like this DOES make sense...! XD
It is definitely quite different to the rest of your fics, this story. Honestly, it feels like the closest you've gotten to writing one of those super-quick Bondage scenes that you see actual TV shows use; like, I can legitimately see all the scenes of Renamon getting wrapped in webbing getting animated and put into the show proper as one of those scenes that would later inspire you to create your longer, more detailed stories! Glad to hear you wanted that 'tug-of-war' segment to go a bit longer, too! The thought of our poor yellow-furred vixen of a Digimon getting properly wrapped up like a birthday present and her captors pulling her back-and-forth like she's someone's toy all whilst she's at their complete mercy due to their overpowering attacks, tight Bondage, and the horrid taste in her mouth is, again, something quite special...! XD That also brings up another thing I really liked about this fic: the fact that Renamon was slowly getting weaker and weaker as the fight dragged on, leading to her getting bound up more and more until finally, she's too tired from the whole ordeal to fight back. Made all those quick sessions you've done feel properly implemented, and gave that final scene of her getting cocooned up that extra bit of 'omph' to it despite it being on the short side! She may be a good fighter, but even someone like her would get too exhausted to fight back if put through something like that...! ;)
You're welcome, there! And yeah, it doesn't really sound like how something a Parasimon would possess their victim. To be honest, I was expecting Renamon to suddenly start speaking in the same Southern Drawl as her possessors the moment she's under their control... It'd be kinda hilarious to see from someone who, judging from your fics, tends to speak with a more regal and dignified voice, but I'm glad you didn't go that route considering what you were going for; it probably would've lessened the moment...! XD
If you're referring to the version of 'Into the Unknown' from Frozen 2, then you're dead wrong when you say it's the original one. The version I showed, which is the main theme of the animated mini-series Over the Garden Wall, has been around since late 2017... If not, then I must say, I'm shocked! I didn't know there was another version of that song in particular out there!
And you're welcome! ^^
As much as it could, I suppose ...
I agree. The closest I've come to writing something this fast-paced is maybe Silver Linings (which I made that way just for the sake of having it be a oneshot). This was very much like how a show like this would actually do a bondage scene, but I like to think the amount of times she's wrapped elevates it a bit. The tug-o-war really should've been more drawn out in hindsight. I was just worried about an already-long story being even longer, but ... man, I should have just gone all out there, especially with how it's the kind of thing that likely wouldn't happen in the other stories!
Oh yeah, I love those kinds of scenes that just slowly break the hero down, making them more and more susceptible to the wannabe captors! I've done similar things with the attacks getting harder and harder to resist, and even kind of did this hero-getting-weaker thing with Link's bondage in the brainwashing - the farther along he goes, the more the tentacles get the drop on him - but I totally agree that kind of thing makes it a really great buildup!
Oh god, I would not do that! Not just because the show doesn't, but because it would kill the drama of a friend attacking another friend. O_o
Oh, I meant "original" in the sense that it's the song that I assumed came out first (the Frozen 2 one), not realizing that what you showed me pre-dated it! Guess I should have looked at that upload date! XD

Ah, yes. Your Treasure Planet fic... Didn't comment on it when you posted it even though I did read and fave it, so perhaps having a rewatch and reread of both movie and fic would fix that?
Anyways, you could say that. Granted, I feel I have seen at least one show that DID show its characters getting bound-and-gagged multiple times; I think a couple of examples that come to my mind are Ben 10 and this one show whose name escapes me that aired back on Jetix when it used to be a thing. Pretty sure it had something to do with robotic monkeys, but I'm not sure... But for the most part, it's pretty singular aside from fics like this. So it's great to see it when it shows up! :)
Oh, yeah! That did indeed happened over in your Breath of The Wild fic, too! That scenario was also in the scene where Link was ambushed by The Yiga at the Woodland Stable, as well! I think it played better there, but the dynamic also had a great affect in the scene where Link was getting possessed! I feel that's something I should emulate into my Bondage fic for Krystal and the possible Collab we've planned on doing...if I can ever get off my lazy ass and do them, already; God, I'm sucking SO much in doing this shit, right now...
Again, like I said, I'm glad you didn't go that direction. I thought you were gonna go there for a moment, but I'm glad it didn't...! XD
Yep. Over the Garden Wall predates Frozen 2 by barely over five years. If you haven't watched the former, I highly recommend it! It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I remembered it being a pretty great mini-series; especially when it's being watched around the Halloween/Thanksgiving timeframe! ^^

I didn't know how familiar you were with the movie, so I figured it'd be hard for you to have something to say. XD
Oh, without a doubt there are many that do that. Ben 10 was a big influence for my bondage love to begin with, after all! (And I can't think of what show you could be referring to, sorry!)
Action scenes tend to work best when they're like that as well, at least when the hero is meant to lose them. You feel the situation closing in more and more, with your hope that they'll make it out fading but still being further fueled by a desperation that mirrors the heros!
LOL, it would've worked great if it was meant to be for comedy!
Alright then, I'll put it on the list for that time of year! :-D

Oh, I'm VERY familiar with the movie, as well as the original Treasure Island book it's based on; especially seeing as it was the first play I worked on in high school! Granted, it wasn't something I watched a lot back when I was a young kid in elementary, but middle school-aged me? That movie alongside The Lion King was the shit! Definitely up there with some of my favorite Disney movies, too! ^^
Yeah, I can see where you're coming from concerning Ben 10. I'm pretty sure we're both thinking of the same episode, as well...! ;)
Yep! It works well for action-scenes in general, too! ^^
Not helping that fact in my head was that around the time I read this post, I also stumbled upon a Fat Fur post of Renamon all dressed up and speaking like a hillbilly, too...! We furries are so damn weird...! XD
Great! Hopefully, I can find it again, myself! :)
