Hey folks, been a while. <3 Hope things are going great for y'all over there; got a new interpretation of my sona I wanted to drop here, drawn by the spookily awesome Zanity. I love western shit, particularly that horror western vibe, so I wanted a version of Jaz I could throw into that kind of world.
The son of wealthy indigo farmers, Jasiem lived a life of luxury in Eastern Texas during the mid-1800's. Despite being gifted with a charismatic personality and avenues to hobnob with the upper echelons of society, he spent most of his time bound to the hip of his older sister Atiena. Though the siblings' parents were seemingly decent folk they were often preoccupied by the responsibilities of their indigo enterprise, so the two found solace in each other's company more often than not.
While Jasiem was a considerably laid back and amiable sort, Atiena was far more calculating and wary of others; she often led her brother back to reality when his wanderlust or curiosity got the best of him. Jasiem frequently went out his way to carouse with desperados and other uncouth individuals in town through games of chance or thuggish roughhousing -- much to his parents chagrin -- and Atiena would often have to intervene on his behalf to keep him from being knocked stupid or off the mortal coil.
One late afternoon, Atiena was tending to her family's largest nursery when a freak "accident" started a blaze around the circumference of the aforementioned greenhouse, its exits suddenly and conveniently blockaded. She lost her life in the inferno, dying slowly and in unthinkable agony, while Jasiem had been left to his own foolish devices in town, drunk and painting the town red the one day his sister had been too occupied to govern his nonsense. The theory behind the accident was it was either sabotage by her parents' competitors or revenge by a particularly foul breed of hoodlums Jasiem had swindled in town, but evidence was sparse for either explanation.
It goes without saying Jasiem was mentally upended by the loss, and stole away what little there was of Atiena's remains in the aftermath of the disaster. Unable to face his family due to his guilt over what part he believed he inadvertently played in Atiena's death, he completely dropped off the map for several years, consumed by guilt and aimlessly wandering darkened plains and forgotten wealds. When he re-emerged a decade later, he did so as a newly christened vigilante, bearing his sister's jawbone on his person as a memento; believing that the dregs of society -- the outlaws and thieves who polluted the developing West-- had been the cause of his sister's demise, he had become dedicated to their extinction and delivering retribution in his sibling's name.
But the ravaged dead don't sleep idly when others take up their cause, and Jasiem doesn't work alone...
So the idea I'm playing with regarding the aforementioned story is that Atiena's haggard and vengeful spirit lingers with her brother, manifesting as a terrifying wraith usually looming behind or above him ominously (akin to Stands from Jojo's bizarre adventure, ha) and assists in hunting and terrifying her sibling's quarry.
His weapon arsenal is simple but brutal: a shotgun hatchet for rending and hacking when the shells run dry, a Schofield model 3 sidearm, and knives dipped in Devil's Weed/Jimson Weed extract. Devil's Weed is a flower local to Eastern Texas that can be used for its hallucinogenic properties; strategic cuts on a person open their mind to seeing Atiena's spirit more fully or making them at least be open to the suggestion that she's there, thus amplifying her presence and influence.
Basically, dude's a fuckin 'crazy vigilante/edgelord and has a ghost partner in crime -- probably needs therapy, but hey it was the 1800's; they probably would've made him eat goose grease and cocaine or something to cure that shit.
Nonstop love for Zanity who put up with my notes and nitpicking to create a truly fantastic ref sheet; they're amazing and you should check them out. Thanks for reading this far if you did!
