Working my way through a few more patreon stories Conner worked on I figured people would like to see, Legoshi was chosen by our patrons in April 2020. We worked on a short story about Legoshi picking up bodybuilding in college. Enjoy!

Legoshi awkwardly moved into Big Bear Cat Psychiatric’s main clinic space, the gangly wolf ducking his head as he stepped inside. “Hey, Panda.”
Looking up from his workspace was a tall, muscular panda, his face covered in scars. “Hrmph. Legoshi, you’re late.”
“Just by a few minutes, sorry,” Legoshi said quickly, pulling himself into a seat. He kept his head down, ears folded.
Gohin stood to his full height, patting Legoshi on the shoulder. “I’m teasing, kid. So,” he settled into a chair opposite Legoshi. “What’s up? How’s college life treating you?”
“It’s… you know, it’s fine,” Legoshi looked away. “I’ve been feeling a bit… hrm. Frustrated? Or, inadequate, I guess.”
The panda arched his brow. “Inadequate? Hm. Was there something specific that happened? Is Haru mad at you?”
“Oh! No, no, nothing like that- I-I mean, I don’t think so…” Legoshi folded his hand, unable to look Gohin in the eye. “It’s… a few things. Stupid things.”
The burlier animal leaned back in his chair, folding his arms. “If you didn’t bring stupid stuff to me about your life, then what would we even talk about?”
The wolf fought a self-deprecating smile. “Haru’s been getting a little… frustrated with me. I-I’m having trouble moving things forward with our relationship, and then I found this in her room…” he handed a magazine over to Gohin, which showed a musclebound rhino flexing and smiling confidently.
Gohin arched his brow. “...Huh. Bodybuilding. There’s something you don’t hear or see much of around here.” He glanced up at Legoshi. “Your bunny’s really into big guys, isn’t she?”
“Mm. There’s been a few other things,” Legoshi sighed. “It’s strange, I just don’t feel as strong as I used to. I’m not big enough to be on strength-inhibiting pills, but lately I’ve been struggling to pull my weight backstage at the drama club. I just don’t seem to have the same strength or energy I used to. After everything that’s happened, this is all pretty small potatoes, but it’s still nagging at me, you know?”
“Well, you’ve never really worked out, have you?” Gohin asked.
Legoshi shrugged. “I never really had to.”
“It wouldn’t hurt,” the panda mused. “You’ve been through a lot, and your body took on a lot of strain. It might be time to build it back up.”
The wolf’s ears flattened again. “I-I don’t know, I’m still plenty strong, I don’t think I need to be stronger…”
Gohin clapped Legoshi on the back. “Look, kid. You need to start thinking about how to harness your instincts, instead of waiting for the next time they flare up. This could be a really healthy outlet for you.”
The wolf’s shoulders still slumped as he hugged himself. “I… I don’t know. Where would I even work out? People get… nervous when predators spend a lot of time in the gym.”
“Not everywhere,” Gohin replied. “Trust me a bit, kid. I know a place…”
The panda therapist led Legoshi to a rather nondescript building; a simple sign reading “Katsuo’s Ironworks” hung above a door, and the windows had been boarded up. The building straddled the border between the Black Market and the rest of the city, a telling sign of the establishment’s ambiguous legality.
Gohin had to push Legoshi inside. “C’mon, a few of the people here are old clients. You’ll be in good hands.”
The wolf cleared his throat, bracing himself. He had dressed in his old gym clothes from Cherryton, with athletic shorts and a sleeveless shirt stamped with the school’s logo. “R-right,” he muttered before pushing through the doorway.
The rhythmic clanking of metal and typical locker room banter pricked at Legoshi’s ears as he moved inside. The gym was well-lit, with a distinct, utilitarian air about it. The machines and weights were slightly rusted and well-worn, and some of the mirrors cracked, but otherwise it seemed clean. The gym’s clientele were overwhelmingly gruff and burly, many of them larger than most animals the wolf had ever seen.
“Ah! Gohin, you son of a bitch. It’s been ages since you showed up for a workout. Not going soft on me, eh?” a deep voice growled.
Legoshi’s head whipped around to the front desk, where a squirrel’s head was poking over the desktop, with rust red fur and tufted, pointed ears. Gohin smiled tightly. “Katsuo! Got some new meat for you. This is Legoshi.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” the wolf said softly, bowing his head.
“Tch, not your usual client, Gohin. You here to workout, Legs?” Katsuo grunted.
“Uhm… well, yes.”
“Right, right. Hm. You got a bit of a scrapper in ya, don’t ya, kid?” the squirrel said, giving Legoshi an appraising look. “Wouldn’t mind goin’ up against ya in the boxing ring.”
The wolf’s ears flattened. “O-oh, I’m not much of a fighter. I wouldn’t want to hurt you.”
“Wouldn’t want to hurt me? Hah!” Katsuo smirked toothily, stepping out from behind the counter. Legoshi’s eyes boggled as he looked the squirrel over; he was nearly as wide as he was tall, densely packed with muscle even as he only stood a few inches above Legoshi’s waist. “Ain’t that cute?”
The squirrel was wearing clothes similar to Legoshi, but where the wolf’s tank top hung limp against his lanky torso, Katsuo’s shirt was strung taut, clinging tightly to a thick core and a beefy chest with a plunging crevice. It was hard to imagine a shirt with sleeves wide enough to fit arms like his, rippling with more muscle than Legoshi had ever seen packed on to another animal. His bushy tail seemed dwarfed by his wide sprawling back, and his shorts were practically wrapped over thick legs, tear-drop quads rippling with each step. Katsuo flexed an arm, his bicep swelling up dramatically. “See that, kid? This is some friggin’ tough meat. Go on, touch it. Think you can bite through that?”
Legoshi looked nervously to Gohin, who only rolled his eyes back towards the squirrel in response. Tentatively, the wolf’s clawed fingers patted the peak of the squirrel’s tensed arm. A strange shiver ran up his spine- it was like touching rock that somehow writhed and bulged at the touch. “That’s… uhm, impressive, sir.”
“Right?” Katsuo grinned, then grabbed Legoshi by the hem of his shirt, yanking the wolf down to his level, making him yelp. “Listen, kid. This place is for animals that are really serious about makin’ something special out of themselves. If Gohin thinks you’re up to it, I’m gonna work you hard.” The squirrel jabbed a finger into Legoshi’s lean chest. “You got that?”
Legoshi, still in Katsuo’s grip, looked back to Gohin, who only shrugged, wearing a faint smirk on his lips. “Y-yes, you’ve made yourself clear, sir.”
Katsuo let him go, smiling wider. “Great!” He slapped Legoshi’s rear, making him yelp again. “We’ll get you started on some basic exercises, to see where you’re at. You’re gonna be a beast when ol’ Katsuo’s done with you.”
The next week, Gohin was back in his office, tinkering with an old piece of medical equipment he thought might be worth salvaging when Legoshi knocked on the door. “Ah! There you are, kid. On time, for once.”
The wolf groaned, dragging himself to a chair. “I… I just got done with Katsuo’s workout for the day.” He whined softly as he lowered himself into a chair. “It was leg day. Everything hurts.”
“I know,” Gohin grinned, tapping a sheet of paper on his desk. “It looks like you’ve made quite an impression on him- he sent me over some of your workout stats.”
Legoshi put a hand over his eyes. “I’m hopeless. Th-this isn’t working for me, Gohin. Everything aches and I’m terrible. Terrible! Katsuo keeps yelling that I’ve got horrible form, I can’t keep my back straight or bend my arms right, I…” he shook his head. “I-I don’t think this is the right place for me. The others all look at me like I’m always doing something wrong. A-and I don’t know how I feel about being constantly outpaced by a squirrel.”
Gohin looked down at the numbers Katsuo had provided. They weren’t just good, they were impressive; exceptional, even. The panda had seen just how strong Legoshi really was, but some of the stats took him off guard. He then looked back to the wolf- for the first time, he had been forced to push the limits of his strength, and it was already starting to show. He was filling out his shirt better, and he had widened his stance- possibly a sign of stronger, thicker thighs. “How do you feel outside the gym?”
Legoshi shrugged. “Fine, I suppose. I’ve been sleeping a little better, and Haru and I are back in a good place- I hope, anyways. But I can barely bend my arms, so I’m even more useless backstage.”
Gohin waved it off. “Never mind that. Are you at all curious about how Katsuo… well, how he got the way he is?”
Legoshi glanced at Gohin, shrugging softly. “I-I suppose. It’s not every day you see a rodent like him.”
“Katsuo has muscular hypertrophy,” Gohin explained. “His body doesn’t really know how to regulate the growth of his muscles, and he took advantage of that. It’s a very rare condition, possibly aided by the fact that Katsuo’s a hybrid. Part wolf, on his mother’s side.”
Legoshi’s ears pricked up at that, his back stiff as he leaned forward. “Gohin, what’re you saying?”
The panda smiled softly. “Legoshi, Katsuo’s blown away by how strong you are. The numbers he showed me are almost off the charts- you’re not just strong, you’re damn strong. It’s too early to tell, but I think you might have a similar condition.” He walked over to the wolf, squatting in front of him and bracing his shoulder. “You could be on the verge of not only taming your instincts, but turning it into something constructive. Do me a favor- give it one more week. If you’re miserable and you hate it, then fine, we call it quits there. Can you do that?”
Legoshi’s shoulders slumped, his muzzle dipping down. “Yeah. I can.”
Gohin clapped him on the back, making the wolf wince. “Good man. Oh- sorry. Just, uhm, walk it off, yeah?”
Legoshi was closing in on his second week, and he couldn’t wait for it to be over. As soon as he was done here, he would make his excuses, go directly to Gohin, and say he was done with Katsuo’s Ironworks.
“Come on! Come on! What are ya, a wolf or a stupid lap dog?!” Katsuo yelled. Legoshi, his heart pounding in his chest, his arms on fire as he wheezed, set the barbell back on its rack, weights clanking.
“It’s too much!” Legoshi shot back, bolting from the bench.
“What the Hell do you think you’re doing? Get back on that bench!” the squirrel snarled, blocking the wolf’s way with his bulk. “I’m not done with you, beanpole!”
“That’s enough weight for a small car!” Legoshi snapped, pointing back at the huge weight plates. “I can’t lift that!”
Katsuo rolled his eyes, his chest puffing up and bumping against his chin. “Oh, for the love of- what, are you lazy, or just afraid of your own shadow?”
“What?”
Katsuo tensed his arm, his horseshoe-shaped tricep swelling up as he slammed into Legoshi, knocking the wind out of him. “Get back under the bar.”
“Hey!” Legoshi gasped, clutching his middle. “What is wrong with you?!”
“I hate seeing wasted potential!” Katsuo growled, prodding the wolf in his middle.
“Stop that!” the tall canine snarled, bearing his fangs.
“Stop what, beanpole?” Katsuo grunted, prodding him again.
“Stop touching me!”
“Or what?” Another prod.
“Or I’m going to… I’m going to get angry!” Legoshi snarled, red in his eyes.
“You’re good and angry?” Katsuo roared back at the wolf, prodding him again.
“Yes!”
“You really want to let the beast out, don’t ya?”
“I-” Legoshi faltered, before shaking his head. “Yes! Maybe I do!”
“Fine, beanpole. You want to maul me? You lift that bar, and I’ll give you a free shot.” Katsuo held out his arms, bunched up, boulder-like shoulders pinching his sides and straining the straps of his shirt.
The wolf snarled, slipping under the bar as he gripped it tight, claws scraping the metal. His arms tensed, his chest puffed up, his entire body braced, and a surge of adrenaline rushed through him, fueling an angry, howling roar as the weight rose clean over his head. In a moment of fire and animalistic rage, Legoshi threw the bar clear across the gym, the weights slamming into the ground and cratering it with a tremendous crash.
Legoshi was left in the middle of stunned silence. Only a few people were at the Ironworks this late, but all of them were staring at him. Katsuo leaned in as the wolf stared boggle-eyed at what he just did. “Do you want to know the best part is, beanpole?” Katsuo asked. “You were right- that actually was as much as a small car.”
“Wh- what?” Legoshi, thunderstruck, turned to the muscle-bound squirrel.
“You just lifted- and threw at a length of about twenty meters- fifteen hundred kilograms.”
The wolf’s ears stood up, his fur prickling. “I- I did?”
The squirrel crossed his arms, biceps digging into his pecs. “Feel better?” Katsuo smirked.
“I…” Legoshi couldn’t help but smile. “Yeah. Wow, I… feel great.”
“Heh,” Katsuo smacked Legoshi on the back. “Atta boy!” Legoshi braced for the impact, but as the squirrel smacked him, the wolf was solid as a rock. Katsuo gave him some space, and Legoshi finally caught his reflection out of the corner of his eye. He walked up, and stood a little straighter, his shoulders spreading out. After two weeks, he saw that all this hard work finally had an effect. His arms were thick and sinewy, his chest filled out his shirt, and his legs had thickened, testing the elastic of his shorts. Standing at his full height, looking at his hard-won bulk, Legoshi smiled softly. For the first time in a long time, he liked what he saw.
Months later, Legoshi’s heart was pounding in his chest again. “I- I can’t do this!” he balked, his tail slipping between his legs.
“Oh, beanpole, c’mon!” Katsuo grunted. “We’ve come all this way, your little bunny’s out in the audience, even that prissy deer.”
“What, Louis is here?” the wolf’s jaw dropped. “No. No! I can’t, not if- they’d never let me live it down!”
The burly squirrel rolled his eyes. “Gohin! Talk some sense into this kid!”
The panda gripped the wolf’s broad shoulder. “Legoshi, you’re easily the most impressive figure here. You’ve earned this. There’s no fight, no one’s going to make you feel bad for who or what you are.”
“That’s great and all, but do I have to wear this?” Legoshi whined, holding up a pair of blue posers.
“Well, what else are you going to wear at a bodybuilding contest?” Katsuo laughed. “C’mon! Everyone else is ready, you’re going to miss the roll call!”
“Contestant seventeen- Legoshi!”
The spotlight came up on stage, and two pairs of arms pushed the wolf on stage. Legoshi took one look out at the audience, his tail wrapped around his leg, and he cringed. But after one bracing breath, he straightened up, and as music began to play, he began his routine. He turned his back to the audience; it was easier to start that way. He lifted arms thickly roped with bulging muscle over his head, his rippling back flaring out like wings. He leaned to the side, his torso arcing gracefully, swells of muscle bulging against one another. His tail swept over thick, bulbous glutes as he tensed his powerful, trunk-like legs, crossing one over another. He smiled to himself; he was moving with smooth, graceful paces. He was doing well. He looked over his mountainous shoulder, and then his eyes widened. Oh no, Louis was near the front row, right next to Haru. And was that a camera…?

He leaned to the side, his torso arcing gracefully, swells of muscle bulging against one another. His tail swept over thick, bulbous glutes as he tensed his powerful, trunk-like legs, crossing one over another. He smiled to himself; he was moving with smooth, graceful paces. He was doing well. He looked over his mountainous shoulder, and then his eyes widened. Oh no, Louis was near the front row, right next to Haru. And was that a camera…?

Great story to this beautiful pic of Legosi. I hope I am not upsetting you by saying this but I’m curious. Posting the last pieces of Conner’s work for you, it has had a big impact on you, has it?
this was an impressive story, and the timing of this post couldn't have been better since netflix dropped the english dub of season 2 where we do get some buff animals, Legoshi included. I can't wait for season 3 when it comes out. also since hybrids are a thing in the canon story, seeing a squirrel-wolf hybrid is nice.
Legoshi's made excellent gains for a mere college student! This sort of build normally takes years to achieve.
It is quite clear that Legoshi had muscular hypertrophy all along, given how we see him buff up a lot whenever he prepares to fight.
Glad this is taking the route of the anime, an alternate route diverging from the manga. Where Legoshi STAYS in Cherryton like Gouhin made him promise to do and complete his degree to get into college. Now he can truly become the Beastar, especially like this.

Nice artwork of Legosi, Renard! 😊 This buffy form really suits his status as a large carnivore!
