Crickets! Wonderful acoustics that can be heard even in heavily urbanized environments. You may notice that some crickets and grasshoppers have a rather scary-looking 'stinger' on their rear end. This is called and ovipositor and it is an organ that serves the purpose of depositing eggs. Crickets have a wide range of diets, some being predatory with powerful jaws. Even the herbivorous species can leave a human with a nasty bite (personal experience :)), so treat them with respect if handling.
