"I don't think we should be here."
Haru tilted her head at Orchio, raising a brow. Why not? It was his idea in the first place. She pressed her palm against the under side of the bowl, cool stone practically freezing against her skin. So different from the coarse sand of the desert.
"We should go," Orchio said loudly. "Lingering souls may not take kindly to us."
"I think they'd like the company," Haru offered. "It must be lonely, this far away."
"These areas are forbidden for a reason. The people here died because of that reason."
"We don't know that." Still, Haru pulled her hand away. "Do you think this is what they looked like?"
"Maybe, but I know my own people make statues of creatures not like us. It could be anything."
"And there's no one to tell us otherwise," Haru hummed.

What remains of old civilizations are nothing more than mysteries and the tragedy of lost knowledge. So is the lament of the Jade Vein Mountain, the stairs to its peak lined with these statues of prayer. No living being of flesh can remember who once lived here, and it is impossible to determine such a mystery now.
