Haedon buys a canned fish for a stray cat, only to find out that a very fat otter ghost that raids his fridge and pantry was in that can.

Just a normal day, doing his normal errands and enjoying his life as it always is. Haedon the human wearing a blue t-shirt and dark blue jeans was walking around in the grocery store with his shopping cart for some food. Right now, he’s picked up some pizza, cereal, chips, a ton of bread, and soda. These were just some of the stuff he could think of as things to eat for tonight or tomorrow. Though, there was no way he could eat an entire pizza in one night unless he had determination. Just as he was about to make his way to the checkout lines, something grabs his attention on the canned shelf. It was a stack of short cans with the labeling: [Fish in a can]. Haedon never was a fan of seafood nor anything in cans besides sweet corn. But every night a stray cat usually comes by his front door, hoping that he has some food. Maybe he’ll give the cat the fish in the can to feed him since he doesn’t have any motivation or no idea how to even take care of a pet. So he grabs one that was stacked on top and puts it in the cart. Strangely as he touched the can, he felt as if there was something else inside the can. Like someone living inside which he finds that impossible. With that done, Haedon rolls the shopping cart to the checkout line. Once it was his turn, he put all the stuff on the counter one at a time. Again as he picked up the canned fish, that same feeling came back into his head again. He was certain that something else was going on with this metal can. “That’ll be 35.23, Sir.” The cashier says as Haedon gives him two twenty-bills and gets his change back. Haedon puts the bags of groceries back in his cart and strolls off. “Have a nice day.”
“You too.” Haedon replies back before exiting the store and heads back to his car. He doesn’t think much of the weird feeling of the canned fish and just continues to enjoy the day some more.
______________________________________________________________________________
Later in the night, Haedon was just about to get ready for bed. Just as he thought to himself at the grocery store, he only ate one slice of the frozen pizza he brought home since he had a small stomach. Luckily if it weren’t for refrigerators, his pizza would have to be thrown out and for the other refrigerated food and drinks too. Before he could do his nighttime routine, he grabs the canned fish he bought from the store and goes out to his front porch. Opening the can, he could smell the mashed up fish that really disgusted him. Placing the can down, he goes back into his house and washes his hands in the kitchen sink to get the awful scent out of his nose. He hopes that cat would eat all of that fish before any of that fish could rot. Haedon goes upstairs to get ready for bed and start a new day tomorrow.
Meanwhile , outside on the front porch, the stray cat that Haedon takes care of every night hops on the wooden steps and walks towards the canned fish. The cat takes a sniff at the fish and eats a couple bites out of it. The cat seems to enjoy the fish as he almost eats all of it until….. “Weh! Stop that!” A ghost otter pops out of the can like a genie getting out of a magical lamp. He was see-through, brightly blue, and very fat with a nice round belly and meaty arms. Doing that scares the feline as it meows in fear and scatters off. At least it ate before escaping the annoyed ghost. He then looks around his surroundings, realizing that he’s on someone’s front pouch with no clue on where he’s at or why he’s here. The ghost otter inhales deeply as if he had lungs and exhales with relaxation. “It’s been a long time since I smelled fresh air.” He said with satisfaction. He then looks down at the can his tail seems to be attached to and sticks his tongue out with cuteness. “I should really eat something else rather than fish.” He was lucky that his ghostly form was at someone’s house rather than somewhere that he assumes doesn’t have any food at all. The ghost otter floats and goes through the door which he finds surprising to see all the food that’s on the counter top. Non-refrigerated fruits, vegetables, and other things. He wonders what’s stored in the refrigerator or even in the pantry that he believes could be filled with whatever that surprises him. He floats more inside the room, just to check the place out. Only to have himself yanked back a little like a rope pulling on him. Looking back, he realizes his ghostly tail was still attached to the can, no way to be free from it. With an annoyed sigh, he says, “You gotta be kidding me.” So he goes through the front door again and picks up the can in one hand while the other one tries to open the door by twisting on the knob. Of course it was locked for a reason which made it even harder for the ghost to get inside with that can stuck to him. He wonders why he was attached to the metal can in the first place, though his mind was blank as a white piece of paper. Not to mention that he has a hard time trying to unlock them from the inside with his paws being too fat to even grab onto the twisty things that should unlock it. Later he notices the window was slightly open but enough to have the can fit through perfectly. So he carefully, sliding the can through the open window with himself going through the window, and makes it fully inside the house. With that done, all that he can do now is to enjoy what is in store in the kitchen area. He first floats his way to the fridge, opening the doors to see how much food was inside. Fenton’s tongue stuck out with hunger and he didn’t take too long before he grabbed some things and munched on them. “Mmmmm, so good….” He said as he ate so loud that it could have woken up anyone in the house. Each second that passes by, the ghost otter eats everything that he can in both the fridge and the freezer until it is empty. “BRAAAAP!” He lets out, patting his belly that expands out a bit. “That hit the spot, let’s see what is in the pantry.” So he floats his way to the pantry and opens it. Amazed by what was in store, his smile brightens up and he zooms right in the pantry and the door slams shut. Sounds of shuffling, munching, and groans can be heard from inside the pantry, the ghost otter enjoying a very good time eating. And none of those noises woke up the human upstairs who had no idea what was going on downstairs.
______________________________________________________________________________
It was morning as the sun rose up and the birds began to chirp. In the kitchen, the door to the pantry opens and a huge fatter ghost otter floats out. He seemed so satisfied with all of the food that he ate last night. “What a- BRAP!...blast.” He rubs his belly and grumbles. He puts the can on the counter top so he can use both of his fat paws to rub his gut. But for some reason, he puts the can so close to the edge that when he makes one tiny move, the can falls to the ground with a loud clunk. It scares the otter and realizes that he must have woken up someone here. Panicking, he picks up the can quickly and goes inside the closet door, slamming it hard. Knowing that he couldn’t fit well inside the small spaced closet and the fact that they could spot him inside, he goes back into the can and seals the lid back on like it was never used.
Haedon wakes up in his bed as he hears a noise coming from downstairs, stretching his arms as they were a bit numb but fine. He believes that it was just nothing and decides to forget about the noise. The human checks his phone for any notifications that he missed while he slept for almost eight hours. Once he clears the messages or chats with a few people online, he gets out of bed and stands up on his two legs. The first thing he did for the day was to get ready to shower which wasn’t long since all he did in there was wash his body and hair. Next, he dries off and puts on a clean pair of clothes that he pulls out of the drawer and closet. The last thing he did was to brush his hair, teeth, and to put on deodorant. His stomach rumbles which indicates that he’s hungry. “Good thing I bought some cereal today.” Exiting his bedroom and heading downstairs, he didn’t see anything wrong with the house at first until he noticed that the fruit and vegetables on the counter top disappeared, like they had just vanished out of thin air. He remembers them being on the counter top last night and the door was locked, or he worried that it wasn’t so he checked all the doors from the front door to the sliding door in the back to make sure. Both doors were locked and no sign of any forced entry which raises more questions for him that he cannot answer. He’ll have to go to the store again to buy the fruits and vegetables that were gone but he needs to eat something first. He goes over to the pantry to get the cereal out, but as he opens the door, his jaw drops. The entire pantry, filled with probably more than a dozen things going from chips, cereal, popcorn, sweets, and even spices were all gone. It was just an empty room except for some crumbs, dust, and cobwebs. “W-what!?” This freaks Haedon out so much. It was like his house just got robbed under his nose. “What else did they take!?” He was afraid to even look inside the fridge that was filled with even more goodies. He didn’t even take it slow as he forcefully opened the fridge and freezer doors to find them empty with food just like the pantry. Even the leftover pizza that he ate wasn’t there anymore, only an empty opened bag he once sealed up to store the leftovers. “Who took all of my food!?” He couldn’t tell if he was feeling angry, disappointed, or even scared at this point. All he can think of is calling the cops and telling them about what they had stolen from him. But before he can take his phone out from his pocket, a loud belch with some groans can be heard from the closet near him. This sends shivers down the human’s spine as he now knows that there’s someone in his house and from the belching, they have to be the one who took, and possibly, ate all of his food. “Hello!? Who’s there!?” He asks, demanding them to show themselves. Again, only belches and groans were all that’s heard from inside the small spaced closet that should be filled with cleaning supplies. Haedon didn’t have any weapon on him but a fruit bowl that lays on top of the counter top was his only choice and he picks it up, ready to throw at whoever was in the closet. He slowly inched his way towards the door with fear and cowardness in his eyes. His hand shakes violently as it reaches towards the door knob before twisting it slowly to where he can’t move it anymore. With a quick open on the door, he finds no one inside the closet which really creeps him out even more. “Umm…..” That’s when he looks down to find what looks like a can, but it was the same can that he had left out at night on the front porch. Also strange that the lid was perfectly shut on tightly like he hadn’t opened it. He picks it up, feeling much lighter which could mean that the fish inside was already eaten. Was Haedon losing his mind or is it all a fever dream that he can’t wake up out of? He takes his finger on the tab and pulls it back just slightly before this huge blue fluffy fur hits him in the face softly like an airbag. The ghost otter came out of that can immmedly with his fat belly burying the poor human’s face in it. It only took a couple of seconds for Haedon to understand what he’s looking at before dropping the can in horror and standing far back away from him. “Gah!” He lets out, using the fruit bowl to throw it at the otter’s soft and huge belly which only makes him belch slightly and jiggle.
“Weh! Why did you hit me with....” He stops his sentence midway to pick up the fruit bowl from the ground. “This fruit bowl!?” He said with anger, squeezing his fat round body out of the closet before floating in the air until he gained control.
Haedon’s face turns white as snow, his body as still as a statue, words had a terrible time coming out of his mouth. “o-o-o-otter?” It’s all he said with his mind going through a state of fear.
“Yep, that’s me. I hope you didn’t mind if I’d- BRAP!...ate your food. I was very hungry.” His soft smile was shown on his face. Once he noticed the vacant stare and the frozen body posture, he decided to help out the human. “Awwww, did I scare you?” Floating close to his face, he gives the human a really soft hug of comfort and caring. It shows that the ghost was friendly after all, making Haedon feel a bit calm but still afraid. “Mmmm, it has been sometime since I gave a person a hug.” He said before letting go of him to let the human be free.
Haedon looks at the ghost otter with a giant round belly that even his ghost sweater can’t contain. In fact, the human feels like the ghost wasn’t this size before his food went missing last night, explaining from the belches he was making. “Who are you?” Haedon asks, getting to the real questions.
“My name is Fenton, or Fen for short. I’m an otter.” His smile was much bigger and full of joy than last time. He was happy in fact that he was talking to someone that didn’t run away or couldn’t see him. “May I ask who you are?”
“I’m uh...Haedon...the human.” He answers, unsure why he said the last two words. He notices something in the ghost’s paw that seemed to be connected to his tail. It was a metallic can that was opened. And it wasn’t any can, it was the canned fish he got from the store. No wonder why he felt that strange pulse coming from inside. “So…..are you a genie?” That was his first guest to what he was, which was the wrong one assuming from the otter’s expression going from happy to angry.
“NO! I’m not a genie!” He basically shouts at him before he uses his free paw to bap him on the head softly like the cute otter he is. “I’m a ghost who’s just trapped in this can. I don’t give wishes.”
Although his assumption disappoints him, it was Haedon’s first time seeing a ghost, and talking to one too. “So if you’re a ghost, how did you die? Unless you’re those ones that come from the underworld?” It was possible but it wasn’t in Fenton’s case.
“Nah, I was just a regular fat otter who loves to eat food.” He pats his gut with pride, watching it jiggle and wobble like jello. “That was until the incident.”
In his mind, the word incident can mean many things from unsolved murder, sickeness, car crashes, or even being eating by predators. “The incident?” He asks, ready to find out how he became a ghost.
“Yeah. Fun fact, a fat otter cannot eat one more than nine-hundred and ninety nine fish in one sitting.” His tummy growls aggressively to help visualize the story.
“What happens if you do?” Haedon asks though he feels like he knows the answer.
“Belly go boom, that’s what. Like this.” Just then, he lets out a strong inhalation before shutting his mouth tightly. His cheeks blew up into two sized tennis balls before the sounds of hissing could be heard from his belly. Haedon witnesses as Fenton’s round belly swells up with whatever he’s using it to inflate. It wasn’t long till the creaking began to erupt with loudness that echoes the entire living room and kitchen. He could hear the grunts and groans coming from the ghost otter as his belly got to the size of a giant boulder, creaking even louder. And a second later, his belly exploded with a loud bang but no wind was able to blow anything away. “There….” He said as his belly reforms himself with no trouble, still the same size as before.
“Whoa…..” Haedon was speechless. The many things that he’s experienced in life, that has to be the best thing he’s seen. “That was amazing, how did you do that?”
For some reason, Fenton couldn’t really explain it. In fact, that was his first time doing it with no knowledge of it whatsoever. “Ummmm, skill?” The ghost otter lies with no clue. “Any other questions you have?”
“Just one. Why are you trapped in that canned fish?” A good question that Fenton should know easily.
“Oh yeah. I was hungry and I saw this factory that was making fish in cans.” As he talked more about it, he realized how embarrassing it would be to explain that a ghost like him can get locked away in a sealed can just because his stomach got too greedy. “The thing is that I got a bit too greedy when I was trying to get the last fish that I might have accidentally fell into one of those machines and right into this can.” He said as he held out the can in front of the human, the stench was still as terrible as it was last night.
Later on, Haedon’s stomach growls in hunger, reminding him that he still hasn’t gotten breakfast. “Oh man, I forgot that I’m still hungry.” Haedon looks up at Fenton who feels a bit guilty about eating all of the food without him eating a single bite.
“Oh dear, I’m so sorry!” He first apologizes to him. “What if I can take you to a fast food joint that serves breakfast? It’s not too late for that.” Fenton offers him which seemed like a good idea to start for the human.
“Sure, I can go for that. I’ll drive to the nearest fast food place and order.” Haedon looks around to see if he can find his car keys anywhere, but Fenton on the other hand fears that he might not make it on the road on time.
“I got a better idea, come closer to me.” He said, lowering himself and touching the ground to get to Haedon’s height. If the otter was alive and had legs, he would be extremely taller than him. Haedon listens to Fenton and goes up to him with no concern. As the human gets as close as he could, the ghost otter opens his mouth as large as he could and consumes the poor human who took it by surprise as he was gulped down right into the otter’s see-through and soft belly. “I’m going to make sure that you get there without any troubles, my human. I’ll be your ride for the morning.” The ghost otter then floats all the way to the front window next to the front door, opening it all the way so he could get both his can and the human through it.
“Wait, is that how you got into my house!?” Haedon asks, as he never noticed that the window had been opened slightly.
“Yep, good thing you didn’t close it or I was going to raid someone’s fridge.” Not sure if that would be a good thing or a bad thing for the both of them. The thing about Fenton traveling is that he couldn’t fly well because of how heavy he is due to the fat and possibly the human he was carrying. So the only thing that he could do was to throw the can which only makes breaks like a bike that goes and stops repeatedly. “Umm, this may take some time.” He picks up the can as he only went a few feet in his front yard. His aim wasn’t that good either since he doesn’t throw it very far or in the right direction. So the only question is, will they be able to make it on time? ______________________________________________________________________________
Everything was fine, indeed everything was purely just right. Or in the mind of Haedon as he sits in the booth eating a hash brown with his new best friend sitting right across from him. “Thanks again. You are really a lifesaver.” Haedon thanks him, enjoying his breakfast. Even if he was calm around the ghost, the others and the staff have other issues. Some of them ran out of the fast food restaurant screaming “ghost”.
“Oh it was no biggie. I wanted to make up for eating all of your food.” Just then, Fenton’s belly rumbles again. “Umm….” His face turns red with embarrassment, making Haedon wonder if ghosts are physically able to do that. “I’m getting hungry too. Would it be okay if-” He didn’t even get to finish his sentence as Haedon pulls out his wallet full of cash and gives it to the starving ghost otter. “Thank you!”
“Get whatever you want. Just enough to fill you up.” Haedon said before proceeding to eat more of his hash brown. Fenton nods with excitement and happily floats over to the counter to order. As he finishes up on the hash brown, he wonders what life would have been like if he hadn’t grabbed that canned fish from the grocery store, or if Fenton had left the house after eating his food. For all he knows, he’s got a new best friend who'll snuggle and comfort the human.

Love it. Hopefully not so ectoplasmic or slimy on the inside of the ghost, just like a plush or something. But still love this
Thank you, it's empty and soft inside. No slime-like substance.
