>Log from Field Officer Mendez
We received reports of one of our research facilities in Central America going dark. According to transmissions beforehand, the team picked up a massive energy signature that seemed to be coming from an area nearby. However, it seemed to have no correlation with the surroundings nor did the area seemed affected. Tests were said to be done to trace the signature, but communication was lost during it. Command said it sounded like the facility was under attack, so a large strike force was sent out to investigate.
The area surrounding the facility seemed completely intact. No signs of GDI or anything to suggest a Scrin or Forgotten raid. The team stayed vigilant however, and my squad in particular felt uneased. Didn’t take long before getting close to the entrances that things took a turn. The squad was immediately attacked. Not by GDI, but by… creatures? I don’t know what the hell they were. I could tell they weren’t Tiberium-based at all. They weren’t Scrin, wildlife, or even Forgotten. They were just these bizarre, freakish, alien-like creatures that look like something out of a science fiction horror novel. Regardless, they could still be killed. Bullets, lasers, fire, chem, and especially my Black Widow were all effective on these things.
We still had to fight our way through the facility, taking sizable casualties as we moved. My squad was still fine, so we moved forward into the facility while the rest secured the above-ground and tend to the wounded. I came across multiple surviving staff and security along the way, evacuating them as we moved. The deeper parts of the facility still had a lot of hostiles in them, but not enough to overwhelm us. Once we got to the deeper parts of the facility, we came across a new creature that was not seen up top. It looked somewhat like a large albino crocodile, but also somewhat like a Fiend if it wasn’t Tiberium-based. Regardless, this thing was still very hostile, but unlike the rest of the stuff we’ve been fighting, this thing was damn near impossible to kill. A full round of Raptor fire, and this thing was able to heal itself faster than it. Thankfully, one of my squadmates still had his Venom, and I had my Widow. Even still, we were just barely able to put the thing down before we ran out of ammo. I don’t even know if we killed it or just caused it to pass out from the severe punishment. Something tells me it’s the latter.
We would later find out by some of the surviving scientists that their attempt to trace it seemingly caused a rift of sorts to open up and release these creatures. According to one of the scientists, Dr. Emerson, the portal could have opened up as a result of the tracing. He thinks that it somehow caused a temporary link between this world and another, and perhaps the energy signature was the result of a major event in the other world, maybe even it's destruction. The rift has since dissipated and the stike team was able to capture some of the stragglers, including what may be the mate of that crocodile thing.
After seeing this, I have no damn idea what to think. Emerson’s theory sounds like lunacy, but these things are definitely not like anything we’ve seen. I’m just glad my squad and I survived. Also, they better not be planning on doing any Tiberium experiments on those damn crocs!
