Letters to Levon the Christian Lion: #4

Dear Levon:
Do you view the CNG crisis, as well as other problems such as the COVID-19 virus we've dealt with this past year and a half, as God's way of punishing the world for their sins? I ask because I became a Christian only three days ago, and already people have been asking me this same question almost every second I am awake. I can't figure out if they're trying to destroy me for my faith, or if they're just testing me based on what I know. I have a long way to go in spiritual growth, but it did make for an interesting thought. All I ask is that people allow me to come up with a legit answer.
Another question they ask is, "If your religion is faith-based, not works-based, why do you still preach you have to do good works?"
I also pray that your duty as Armenia's ambassador to America is going smooth, and I thank you for being a G-52 as well. Or are you? I forgot.
Sincerely,
Rufus G. Presley, age 17 (human being)
San Diego, CA, USA
P.S. I am not related to Elvis, even if I have the same last name as him.
Levon's response:
Dear Rufus:
Thank you for writing to me. All of Leo the Patriotic Lion's parallels are G-52s, and so I am one. It's why I carry the staff with the cross on it, and when necessary, it summons lightning bolts. I haven't used it like that in such a long time, though; it's something I do when there is literally no other way out.
God has two distinct ways I know of judging people for their sins: direct and indirect. An example of a direct judgment would be how He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, or even when He flooded the whole globe, which is why Noah built the ark and saved himself, his family, and all the animals who came in pairs, two by two, into the ark.
I therefore believe that what we are going through right now is an indirect judgment. In other words, because people aren't turning to God for the truth, He has lifted His hand off the world and allowed it to be subjected to lies that plague us and our well-being. But I think He is also using these specific circumstances to bring people back to Him. If you read the book of Judges, or even if you look at specific periods of history such as the American Revolution (because George Washington would pray to God for guidance), there were multiple ongoing cycles where the people turned to God in desparation, and because they were putting their trust in Him and following Him, He answered their prayers. Yet when things were prosperous, people began turning their backs on Him, or, as Judges puts it, "did evil in the eyes of the Lord," so He turned them over to the evils of the world. Again, these are indirect judgments.
God isn't going to just zap somebody dead if they are a potty mouth, for example. He is a just God and must punish sin, but He is also a God of mercy. Why else would He send His only Son, Jesus Christ, to bestow the sins of the world upon Himself when came time to die that excrutiatingly painful death on the cross?
Christianity is indeed a faith-based religion. Others claim you must earn your way to heaven, but the reality is, heaven is occupied by those who have accepted God's free gift of salvation. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9). God calls us to do good works to serve Him, but this is more to do with the rewards we might receive once we get to heaven. The more you do this, and the better you do at it, the greater the jackpot, so to speak. So don't waste your time purusing worldly prizes since you have the ultimate grand prize: eternity with God in heaven.
I congratulate you on becoming a Christian, and may the Lord bless you and your family and friends, and keep you strong. It is not a question of if we are going to get through this, but when, because when people repent and finally turn back to Jesus, that's when this whole crisis will come to a crashing halt.
In His Service,
Father Levon Zakaryan, a.k.a. Levon the Christian Lion

Chuong: I hope the world lifts the global CNG lockdown so life can get back to normal and China can experience true freedom with a rapidly growing tourism industry under Liu.
Shi: If before the Olympics, we get tourists from all around the world and they must be at their best behavior, which may test Liu's patience if they act too rowdy. The world already hold animosity towards Argentine and Brazilian football (soccer) fans even though CNG has killed the Superclásico fans.
Zax: Lifting the CNG lockdowns means the parallels will be exposed to more people from overseas so God may put our parallels to the test to see if they can handle certain situations without blowing up, be it people who enjoy watching [i][Squid Game/i], to people who do stupid things, like Trudeau who did blackface several times.
Shadow Lord Nightwolf: As well as people who question the Bible a lot, in which there's plenty of them in this world.

Levon: I share your wish, Chuong. China needs to catch up fast.
Leo: Do you find it easier to keep calm than some others?
Levon: I think so. Even I have done dumb things, but that's all gone. God forgives and also forgets; so many forget that second detail.
