Subject designation: Mesosaurus
"This aquatic reptilian from the early Permian was a headache for the research team to revive. First of all, the DNA from all Permian animals is very difficult to simulate due to it's age, meaning it was tough to get our hands on it. Second, the team originally wanted to use gharial DNA to fill out the holes in it's genetic makeup, but that was soundly rejected due to possible unforseen effects this may have on the subject. It was settled that Viviparous Lizard and Water Anole genes would be used, which produced a more desireable result. These are about as large as the original species, and had the trademark needle-like teeth, but their snouts are shorter and their limbs are more well-suited to terrestrial locomotion, despite the best efforts of the genetic team to patch this out. Now they live out their lives in coastal areas, but their primary exhibit is located in the hypersaline lake on the island, aptly named Mesosaurus Lake. From here they spread out into different regions, but they do return here to lay their eggs. Their diet is composed mainly of fish, although they have been observed feasting on carrion from larger animals, along with hunting Hupehsuchus in fresh water, a creature near identical to them in size. Unexpected behavior like this makes me glad we didn't put gharial genes into them. Luckily, there have been no reported attacks on tourists, and they have been noted as acting very docile around rangers."
