As one Nelvaanian woman ran as fast as her pregnancy allowed to the city’s spaceport, another waited for her arrival. Although this Nelvaanian shared the same ancestral homeworld as Ashden, she had about as much in common with Ashden as a common man would have with a Jedi Master. Sure she had the turquoise blue fur, black hair and onyx eyes, but compared to other Nelvaanians, she was taller, stronger and even her fur color was a deeper teal compared to the common azure fur color of her pureblood counterparts.
This Nelvaanian in question was named Rochelle, and she was bored out of her mind.
“Where is she already?”Rochelle wondered aloud, checking a wrist chronometer idly. “That Ashden woman said she would be here by 13:45”.
With no answer seemingly forthcoming, Rochelle sighed in annoyance and sat down on a nearby shipping crate. Rochelle wasn’t exactly the most patient of people and more often than she’d admit it had cost her. But still, for the amount of credits this Ashden girl was offering to pay for a trip off world, Rochelle couldn’t really afford to turn her down regardless of the shady circumstances.
“Well, at least being a smuggler is a lot more exciting than being a colony ship engineer.”, she thought to herself. But then again was it really worth it to leave that sense of stability behind for such an uncertain line of work? She shook that line of thought out of her head. It was too late to change the past and Rochelle didn’t get this far in life to be second-guessing herself. Rochelle let another sigh escape her lips. “I’ll give Ashden a few more minutes before I call her again. She did sound like someone was after her. I hope nothing bad’s happened to her.”.
Just then, a sudden crash echoed throughout the hangar and Rochelle jumped to her feet. It wasn’t the first time she’d been ambushed in such a place and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. Hearing the commotion coming from the hallway leading to where her ship was docked, Rochelle quietly made her way to investigate.
“Hey watch where you’re going, lady!” a rough male voice was heard. One of the maintenance crewmen Rochelle thought. “I’m so sorry!”, another voice was heard; this time distinctly female. “I’m looking for dock bay 2. I was told that a smuggler named Rochelle was there!” Hearing her name, Rochelle decided to make herself known. Stepping into view, Rochelle was met by a strange sight. A heavily pregnant Nelvaanian woman, panting with exhaustion and clearly running on fumes, standing over an upset maintenance worker picking up some small power converters. Clearing her throat, Rochelle addressed the two. “Ms. Ashden I presume? I’m Rochelle. My ship’s ready for you to leave whenever you wish.”
Ashden stared at Rochelle as though she was a gift from the gods. At long last, her escape was now in reach.
“Oh thank the gods you’re here!” Ashden cried as tears rolled down her snout. “Please, we need to leave as soon as possible! They’re after me for sure!” the smaller Nelvaanian sobbed as she clutched her visibly pregnant midsection. Rochelle was taken aback by Ashden’s behavior. Now for sure she knew something was going on. “Hey don’t worry, Ms. Ashden.” the taller Nelvaanian assured her. “My ship’s just over beyond that door. I’ll get you out of here safe and sound.” Ashden tearfully nodded as began to make her way to the door with Rochelle following behind. She was safe at last.
But alas, the galaxy has a rather sick sense of humor.
“There she is!” a rough male voice yelled. “Blast her!”
And then all hell broke loose.
Suddenly blaster bolts started flying past Rochelle and Ashden. Rochelle turned and saw a squad of hired thugs chasing after them from behind. “RUN! Get to the ship!” Rochelle yelled to Ashden, who ran towards her ship as fast as her pregnant self could. Rochelle bared her teeth as she followed. That is until she felt someone grab her hair from behind.
“Hey I got one!” one of the thugs yelled to his companions. Rochelle felt herself boil with rage. “She’s the wrong one though! But I guess we can still have some fun with this one!” the thug laughed.
That did it. Snarling like a wild beast, Rochelle turned towards the overconfident thug and delivered a kick that tore its way through his vambrace right towards his head; the blow twisting his neck in a sickening angle. He was dead before he hit the ground. Before she had a chance to celebrate her victory, blaster fire came flying towards her direction. Rochelle bolted towards the door leading to her ship and after crossing its threshold, she slammed the door panel controls; sealing her from the thugs. With no time to spare, she ran up her ship’s ramp and into the control room, where a terrified Ashden sat in the copilot’s seat.
As Rochelle jumped into her seat and began to control the ship; lifting it out of the hanger bay and into the city’s skyline, Ashden’s small voice shook Rochelle out of her thoughts. “Ms. Rochelle, you’ve been hit.''Ashden said as she pointed towards a scorch mark on the taller Nelvaanian’s abdomen. Rochelle looked down towards the wound with a calculating look. It was a minor injury; she’d had much worse wounds. “It’s a just minor wound, I’ll be fine.” Rochelle assured her passenger. Ashden didn’t look so sure but whatever she had to say she kept it to herself. As Rochelle guided their ship into space, she turned towards Ashden with her own concerns in mind. “How are you holding up?” Rochelle finally said. “Are your kids alright?” Ashden looked down towards her pregnant belly and rubbed it tenderly. “I… I think they’re alright.” she said after a long pause. Unfortunately, all the events of the day began to catch up to her and Ashden began to cry again.
Rochelle sat there awkwardly as Ashden began to sob quietly in her seat. She could tell that Ashden was on the verge of a breakdown. She had to tread carefully here. “Look” Rochelle began, “I can tell you’ve been through a lot today. I don’t know all the details and I don’t know why those thugs were after you. But I can promise you this. I will do everything in my power to protect you and your kids. You’re safe now. I won’t let anything happen to you, Ashden.” The pregnant Nelvaanian looked at Rochelle’s comforting eyes and softly nodded. No words were said but Rochelle could tell that Ashden was eternally grateful for that. Rochelle let a warm smile appear on her face. “Ok then. Let’s get you out of here. We’re gonna jump a couple of systems away from this planet. That should give us some good space away from whoever’s after you.” With that said, Rochelle’s ship entered hyperspace and into an uncertain future.
Now then, there was a little project that was being worked on in the background. It's related to a nelvaanian mom that I shared a few months ago that suggests there was something more to her story. Well here we have a collaborative effort with snowpirate-101 and gothia1565 for almost a year! All for free to enjoy! Expect more artworks with little stories attached to them in the following weeks.

Nice to see the character again. Certainly has been a small surge of the nelvaanian race popping the last time I saw her.
Definitely a nice work on Gothia and Jade’s part xP

Now not just the money, but protecting the most precious cargo from what they would have done to her.
