Green spotted the yellow Filly from a distance, and quickly beelined to her, landing right beside her.
“Green! Thanks for stopping, I could use your... What are you doing?” Buttercup blinked.
“Just one moment, let me take a look...” The green pegasus walked around Buttercup and her coupe peering closely at both the filly and her car.
“Green?” Buttercup's ears swiveled forward as she tried to figure out exactly what he was doing.
“Did you just buck your tires to get my attention?”
“I-uh what?!?” Buttercup's ears went as flat as her front tire.
“You see here...” The pegasus gestured with his forehoof at the front tire. “This tire clearly shows an imprint of a horseshoe. Most horseshoes are fairly blunt, but Turfmasters are rather squarish. They are favored by earth pony sprinters as they offer exceptional grip on launch. I cannot help but notice you are sporting a set of new shoes today, their glint is what first caught my attention!”
Buttercup's cheeks were on fire now. Her jaw hung open, all that she could produce was a bit of a squeak. “He must think I'm an idiot or worse!” she thought.
Suddenly Green burst out laughing. “You are so adorable when you are flustered! I'm sorry, I was just teasing you! Turfmasters are also notorious for coming off at a full sprint, I see them by the road all the time, and this is a nice place for ponies to run! You just were unlucky enough to hit one the wrong way and it popped your tire! It also dropped a nail, which is in your back tire!”
“So close, yet so far...” Thought Buttercup, recovering herself. “Waitaminit, he said I was adorable!” a smile returned to Buttercup's muzzle. “Th-that has to be it! Where did you get all that from?”
Green blushed a bit and pawed the earth with his forehoof. “I've been reading a lot of Sherlock Hooves stories lately, and as a flier, one needs good situational awareness... I bet with a little searching we can probably find the horeshoe that did this! Let's...”
“Green!” Buttercup interrupted. “I have groceries in the trunk, how about you help me get rolling, and I can make you a nice picnic lunch?”
Green looked at the clear blue sky above them. “Well, it is almost noon, and I don't think we're about to get stormed on, besides helping out a friend is much more productive than flying in circles!”
“Let me get the things out of the trunk and we can start...” Buttercup's ears drooped a bit when Green said friend. “I want you to be my special somepony.” she thought.
“So these things come with only one spare, then you need patches.” Green began working the jack to remove the rear tire. “But if you don't have wings, I guess this is a lot better than walking everywhere.”
Buttercup nodded as she sorted through her bags. Some nice sandwiches and carrot juice would work for a quick picnic lunch.
Soon the two had the wheels removed, and broken down. They applied fresh patches to the innertubes. While the glue set, the pair ate a fresh lunch of sandwiches and carrot juice.
“Heh, who would have thought there would be a practical use to those things we floated around on at the pond when we were little.”
Buttercup nodded.
“I remember how you'd put that ring around your waist and roll around in it. Ha, remember when I tried doing that and got so dizzy I couldn't even stand!”
The two laughed. Lunch finished, they cleaned up the picnic and put Buttercup's car back together.
“All we need to do is take turns on the tire pump, and get these reinflated.” Buttercup clipped the nozzle of the pump into the inflation port in the rear tire.
“Hold on, let me try something...” Green unscrewed the top of the tire pump.
“What are you doing, Green? The pump doesn't work like that!”
Green started to flap his wings at the top of the pump, using Pegasus magic to focus the air inside. Quickly, the tire unfolded, filling with air. “Behold, the power of wingtip vortices!” Proclaimed Green triumphantly.
“Oh, you are so clever!” Buttercup nuzzled Green. The surprised Pegasus's wings locked in the fully open position, his cheeks burning scarlet.
“Now who is cute when they are flustered?” giggled Buttercup.
Overloaded, Green's mind resorted to the default response: “Uh...”
“Do your magic, again, let's get the front tire inflated now.” Buttercup pulled the inflation nozzle from the rear tire and inserted into the front tire.
“S-Sure...” Green recovered enough to do his wing trick and soon Buttercup had everything loaded back into her trunk.
Lets hear it for the ten minute background, and shoddy perspective! =P =^^=
