Schei and Erik both had good intentions when they started out. They went to the gym nearly every day, and though Schei was significantly heavier, had a much lower range of motion, and ran out of energy quicker, he was still able to keep up with some of Erik's exercises. Together, the two lizards were able to lose nearly 2 pounds each within the first week!
But, exercising is only half the battle. A proper diet and reasonable portions are just as crucial as lifting weights, if not more so. Generally, fast food should be nowhere near anyone's diet plans either. But when there's a good fast food place just across the street, and you can smell the burgers and shakes even from inside the gym, eventually someone as huge and hungry as Schei is going to ask for some, and someone as out-of-shape as Erik would happily oblige. After all, fast food can be good for bulking, even if it's a bit high in sodium and saturated fats... As long as it doesn't become a habit, it's alright to get a treat once in a while!
They went the day after, too... Then the day after that. "Just a few times a week" quickly turned into every single day. Soon, there were days where they didn't even visit the gym at all, instead skipping to go right to their new favorite restaurant. Orders got larger, breathing got heavier, doorways got narrower, waddles got wider. Shirts ripped, waistbands snapped, buttons popped, stomachs stretched. More and more weight accumulated as they deleted their previous progress and quickly overrode it with more jiggling, swelling, debilitating fat. Erik was even larger than Schei's starting size, and his bigger blue-scaled friend was quickly reaching the point of hopeless obesity. Neither lizard wanted bring up the subject of exercise again, fearing the other might "snap out of it" and suggest dropping the fast food... So they stopped going to the gym entirely, instead spending most of each day planted by a table, eating more greasy burgers and chugging more whole-fat shakes than any lizard ever should, until their enormous, scaly bellies became taut, red globes.
Erik, now the size of a blimp, groaned as he looked at the remaining shakes on the table. Once again they'd ordered way too many, and his overstretched stomach felt like it was about to burst... but he knew they couldn't waste any food. He looked over at Schei, who was struggling just to bend his lard-swaddled arm enough to bring another shake to his panting maw. He looked like he might be similarly stuffed, but it was hard to tell with how much larger his stomach was. It sounded like just trying to fill his lungs was a losing battle with how loudly he was huffing and wheezing in between desperate attempts to lift an arm that probably weighed more than the barbell Erik helped him lift all those months ago. It looked like Schei's face was slowly being swallowed up by his basketball-sized cheeks and thick neck rolls, and Erik blushed slightly as he realized his fattened face probably wasn't very far behind.
Both lizards were straining to finish but, again, they were not going to waste any food. "Huff... Just... hah... Five more..." Erik said, once again trying to encourage his struggling friend.
