(Do not favorite my work if you are not going to decently comment, it's disingenuous to artists/writers who like positive feedback on efforts.)
You know that moment with doctors it becomes less of a back-and-forth and more of a 'you're kind of invading my personal space' moment? That's this. But hey, it's for science. Or technology. Or...whatever it is to make the perfect diaper for a fire/poison breathing lizard.
Chapter 4 Ditto Dos and Donts
It happened just as Rotom said it would, much to my surprise. Me and my Salandit looked to see a tube connect the two cubes open up, and the mesh-fitted Ditto dropped through. Well, sort of. The Ditto seemed to stretch from the rim of the tube to the bottom of the cube, like a empty goopy berry drink that was dumped out, seemingly being very careful with it's mesh lining. My Salandit watched its descent, standing and side-stepping away, eyeing the morphus Pokemon warily.
"Ditto!" the pink Pokemon exclaimed, almost in a salute at us from inside the Cube. My Salandit stared, mouth gaping, before looking at me confused as if to say 'is this thing serious?'...though unsure what it should be serious about.
"Good!" Rotom noted, hovering about the cube. "All the senors on the mesh are working!" he said, hovering beside me. "...uh, he might not like this next bit---"
"WHAT?" I questioned, glancing at Rotom with disbelief before going back to the cube.
While my Salandit was looking at me, the Ditto silently slipped over to him, right between his legs. With seemingly practiced movements, the Ditto started to...transform. It wasn't into a Pokemon though, and not like how I think Ditto usually did it. It's body started to rise and wrap around my Salandit's crotch.
Immediately feeling something against his body, with me not there and with a fresh diaper, he looked down, wide-eyed, at the Ditto forming itself around him. At first, this invasion of personal space shocked him, and we both watched as the Ditto continued to wrap around his front, rump, and hips, just like a...
My Salandit's claws darted down to tear at the Pokemon invading his most private of places, though the Ditto seemed aware of this. Portions of the Ditto seemed to shoot outward, thin shafts of it's body that ended up wrapping around my lizard's wrists...keeping them from coming closer as it was working on finishing up.
"Isn't this VERY intrusive?" I questioned to Rotom, my face contorting the same as my Salandit's at how I would react to such a thing.
"It's how we get precise measurements and data," Rotom answered matter-a-factly. I was about to ask if there were easier ways...then remember that Rotom didn't exactly have a 'body' himself, so the concept of what 'personal space' meant seemed too foreign to him.
"Oh uh, can you, uh, stop from...!"
I turned back to the cube. "Uh oh."
My Salandit found he was getting nowhere with trying to Slash the Ditto, and decided to try a different method. He got his hackles up, leaning his head down at the Ditto, mouth open and, more importantly, a glow starting to form on his tail. It was obvious what he intended...he was going to fire blast the Ditto till he ended up as a pile of goop. Er...even more of a pile of goop I mean?
I admit, I was resistant for about a second or two, considering Rotom wasn't being straight with me, and this Ditto thing was VERY invasive. Then I realized my Salandit would end up hurting the Ditto annnnnd...maybe himself considering where he would be aiming.
I knocked on the cube to get his attention. Only his eyes darted to me, the heat in his mouth growing brighter. "Whoa whoa little buddy! Don't do that! You'll hurt yourself!" I yelled to him, thinking concern for himself probably outmatched the same for the Ditto.
He glared at me as if to say 'him first', which was technically true. Unfortunately, my distraction of him...allowed the Ditto to move a bit of itself upward to clamp my Salandit's mouth shut with a sort of jab...also, unfortunately, at the right time. His eyes watered and bulged out a little as his cheeks puffed up.
I watched, slack jawed, in fear that he could have hurt himself that way...but slowly, his cheeks deflated, and out his nostrils came a long whiff of steam that that dissipated rather quickly. Thankfully, he opened his mouth too, wide enough that...I don't think there was damage, but there was a great plume of smoke that came out, his tongue dangling a bit from his mouth as he heaved breathed outward.
The Ditto apparently thought this had deluded my Salandit's aggressive attitude for now, and slowly retracted his bindings, my lizard's arms going going slack at his sides and he recovered from his pent-up fire blast. I grimaced at that...telling myself I owed him big for going through all this stuff...
Glancing him over fully to make sure the rest of him was ok, I noticed that the Ditto seemed to finish what it was doing and, as I strangely expected...it looked like a diaper. An...unfortunately pink diaper, with the eyes stretched like they were the adhesive tapes, and the mouth like the front panel strip.
"Well, that shut him up!" Rotom exclaimed with a little joy. I gave him a side-ways deadpan expression. There were things I wanted to say to that statement, but I didn't want my Salandit to add a few certain words to his collection.
"Can we...please just get this done for his sake?" I decided to ask, looking to Rotom.
"Oh! Sure! We should proceed to the Model Data Chamber for some stress testing! We can let him out now..."
"Oh thank Arceus for that..."
With no delay, I pushed the indicated button to open the cube and went in myself, right around when my lizard was snapping out of his daze. I ignored the Ditto for a moment, placing my hands on his shoulders and looking him over much closer this time. He did feel warmer than normal but...I guess that as to be expected.
"You ok buddy?"
His face squinted in different ways before it settled back to normal, looking at me through watery eyes. I reached over with my sleeve to wipe one eye clear, but then he flapped his hands at me to get back and did the other one on his own. As he did, he looked down to see the strange---
"AN DIT!?" he yelled, leaning back, arms up, looking down at the pink...garment clasped to his waist. I'm...not entirely sure if he thought that was still the Ditto or not, or that somebody had played a trick on him and put him in some kind of girly diaper.
"Whoa whoa, it's ok buddy uhhh," I started, watching his face dart to me with an expression that read 'NO IT'S NOT!'. "Uh...I'll fix it!" I said quickly, leaning over to 'remove' the 'diaper'.
Honestly, part of me WANTED to get that Ditto off him for various reasons...but we already came this far...I...guess should keep going? Anyway, as I felt the Ditto's semi-porous form, I actually leaned in a bit and whispered to it. "Uh, hey...Ditto can change color right? Can you...ya know...change into white or something?"
"Di---"
"Thanks," I said real quickly, tapping the Ditto's mouth so it didn't actually say something and ruin my lizard's bewildered state at this. It looked confused by that, but thankfully, I watched as the pinkish color of the...Ditto-Diaper, I guess, quickly change to a basic white.
"Oh, uh, there we go!" I announced with a hesitant chuckle as I moved away, letting my Salandit look down at himself again. He blunk a few times, looking between it and me, completely off-guard here. He was CERTAIN I didn't have a spare diaper, weird as the one on him was, and he was not completely sure if I was some kind of magician or something.
"Well uhh...ready to uh, get this over with?" I asked him cautiously, hoping the idea that this whole ordeal was coming to a close soon would push him that extra bit to finish.
He gave me a...wary look himself, and then turned his head around the cube as if looking for...that Ditto. Apparently in his back-fire daze, he had not realized what had happened with it.
"Ok buddy heh, lets uhh, get out of here," I suggested, one hand on his shoulder, another gesturing to the entrance of the cube. He looked to my hand, then to the one gesturing.
"...an dit," he muttered, marching forward, shoulders high. He certainly wanted to get out of this water trap, that was for sure. I followed behind him, watching with slight worry as he glanced at the item around his waist and wondering why it wasn't crinkling like a diaper should....
Rotom told me he would be fine, but I learned by now not to take what he said at face value. I looked into the room before my lizard even stepped inside, noting anything out of the ordinary that would restrain, dowse, tickle, or attach to him. I did not want replays of situations that made him uncomfortable.
It seemed fine enough, and I remember the room from the tour. The half-playground, half-gym (not the battling one). I grimaced a little at what they thought to accomplish in here. I mean, my Salandit can be playful at times, but at this point it was rare and something that comes out when he was overly happy about something and couldn't stop himself...but I didn't expect him to be like...a kid in a park. As for the gym, he wasn't exactly a work out type, and I can agree...I don't imagine him being a buff macho lizard by the end of this, or even wanting to. I think we both could agree, he was fine the way he is.
I took a little convincing for him to go in, but I ended up doing something similar to how I got him out of his wet diaper earlier heh. I kind of played to his self-reliance, which I did feel bad about, and he defiantly marched into the room on his own. Wincing at it working again, I really hoped that one day he'll manage to see through the technique...I didn't want to feel like taking advantage of his pride was always the go-to...I wanted trust here.
Rotom and Norman escorted me to the 'observation room', which thankfully was just a staircase and room away. The room had a bunch of those...kind of computer-in-the-desk kind of things, like the computer melded with a table and now they're just one thing. Anyway, there were a lot of those, with plenty of...monitoring stuff of some kind on the screens, like in some hospitals or Centers, but I couldn't make heads or tails of what it was.
The entire left wall, though, was made of window, letting us see into the room Sol had gone into. As Rotom and Norman went over to the consoles---maybe they were called that---I looked through them, noticing my Salandit at the center of the room, peering into its exercise-room section, looking about as confused as I was about what this was all for.
"Nobody's here," I noted, looking about for any humans or Pokemon in the room, wondering why that was so with the machines on.
"Watch," Norman mumbled with a roll of his eyes, as if to tell me that was obvious. I glared at the back of his head as Rotom floated backwards to follow.
"Oh, that was the big boss' order," he told me. "He said that your little guy is a bit...touchy---"
"Wat og," Norman grunted as his diaper crinkled against the seat he took in front of a console.
"---yeah, I was there too ya know. So, figured it best if it was just us. We've been to enough of these to know what to do, it's easy! I mean, look! Seems like the mesh is broadcasting well!"
Seeing nothing jumping out at my lizard for the moment, and him seemingly still not aware that he was wearing a Ditto-Diaper, I went over to join Norman and Rotom, seeing them looking at the displays on the screen. I think Norman tapped some keys when I was looking through the windows, cause now there was display that looked familiar to me.
It was an outline of a Salandit, like a line drawing of his proportions, in bright green lines on the screen...like a kind of wire-frame. More accurately was his, um, middle, where the Ditto was. There was a lot of connecting lines and micro-polygons, like a miniature web. On occasion, it moved, the lines and polygons moving along with it, and prompting some additional text off to the side of a bunch of computer jargon that I didn't get.
"Neat huh?"
I glanced to Rotom hovering beside me, who looked a little smug...I guess because he knew what all this stuff was better than I did?
"Uh, yeah," I said noncommittally.
"See there," he said, thrusting a bit forward to indicate the screen. "That is an outline of your Salandit there. And in the middle, the mesh the Ditto is wearing. See how it moves when he does?"
I blinked, looking up from the console and stretching a bit to see where my Salandit was. Looking between him in the distance and to the screen...I saw Rotom was right. When he moved a leg, made a tail swish, or turned his head, the image did a fraction of a second later. As I looked longer, I saw the image on the screen was getting a bit more...filled in, as if each movement was drawing more and more lines and filling in the blanks of the outline.
"Now we'll get to see the Form Mesh in action! Normy, if you would!" Rotom announced, looking to the Watchog, who glared sideways at the Rotom as his hand tapped a few commands into the console. I noticed one of the lines saying 'Speaker On'...and saw Rotom go over to me.
"Since you're his handler, would you mind asking him to go through some of that list there?" he asked me, happy face on his screen.
I looked about, noticing a built-in microphone in the console that I had mistaken for some kind of knick-knack. I went over to it, being a bit cautious, glancing over at the list he was talking about.

I paused on the list, finding this all rather strange. It seemed the first half indicated stuff in the room, but the later half...? Still, I looked the other way, and saw another screen showing a camera view of the room ahead, seeing my Salandit looking around the playground area with slight confusion.
"Um...ok buddy? Can you hear me?" I started, speaking into the mic. On the screen, I watched his tail stiffen, and he turned to look around, claws spread, maybe wondering why I was suddenly surprising him...and being equally confused I wasn't right there.
"Whoa, calm down, it's ok. I'm in the other room, I can see you," I told him, thinking that would reassure any hidden doubts he had about this, that I was there for the proceedings. Then again...I've been there for all of them thus far...is that how we've made it here in the first place?
He seemed to find the camera I was looking through when I was speaking and was cautiously walking toward it on all fours, possibly wondering if whatever was making my voice was a fake. I guess there were speakers beneath the camera...and that it had some kind of motion sensor, given it was moving to keep him nearly in the middle.
"Oh good, we're getting some quad-data! We DO need that too!"
I glanced over at Rotom, noticing Norman tap a few keys, looking rather focused on what he was doing rather than being annoying this time. I glanced to the screen too, noting the Salandit frame was no like him, on all fours, and more data bits were coming up, particularly of his new stance.
"Um, ok buddy...I guess they want you to use some of the stuff in the room?"
I looked back to the mic fully and the screen, blinking when I noticed him staring daggers at the thing. "Uh...buddy, it IS me you're hearing."
"...Andit!" he called, making me glance down at the speaker to the side I thought was just a black box near the console.
'Prove it'...? Well, ok.
"Alright. Umm...let me see. Remember when you were looking for a place to hide about three weeks ago because you didn't want to go for a check-up at the Center, and you forgot that the green trash can was for trash and the white one was for---"
"Ditditditditdit!" he rapidly shouted to me, index fingers up and waving for me to stop.
Yep, I figured he didn't want that to come out. I glanced at Norman and Rotom, who had notably stopped what they were doing to look at me, as if waiting for me to finish the little story.
"Nope," I told them, looking back to the mic.
"Aw, story tease," Rotom grumbled, face briefly angry, but then to a cheeky grin to show it wasn't serious.
"Og," Norman groaned, rolling his eyes and going back to the work at hand.

Well, I don't think he's noticed it's REALLY the Ditto around his waist at the end of this, but he will later heh. But it's kinda wearing the mesh as an over-suit, so it's not direct contact...but that's the price for some of the best padding for a Pokemon species.
