I was quite honestly pretty dejected when I was first plopped into the aggressively bloom-flooded world of the game- if you were left with hoof-capped flailing stumps of limbs and stuck in a barren, tiny town with nothing to do, you would be too. Sure, there were some things to pass the time- fishing, bug catching- but this game wasn't meant to be played for longer than an hour a day and it showed. That wasn't including the fact that I wasn't exactly good at them in real life- it's much easier when you just have to press a few buttons on a controller...
Once you got tired of the meager activities, the only thing left was to talk to the villagers. Naturally I felt uneasy about telling them of my predicament, seeing as a villager was the one who trapped me in here in the first place... but eventually I met someone I could trust: Buck. Admittedly he wasn't the brightest tool in the shed; all he could talk about was working out and lifting weights, so I found it difficult to hold a conversation with him. He was, however, nice to everyone and ended up being the go-to guy whenever someone needed to get worries off their shoulders. Of course villagers being villagers, the most serious incident to have happened since I arrived was someone forgetting to return another person's watering can... still though, he felt trustworthy.
"Howdy there, pardner!" he hollered, chasing me down. "You look kinda blue. What's wrong?"
I'd considered opening up to him multiple times but always stopped myself... at this point, however, I was getting desperate. What's the worst that could happen? I confessed to him, explaining how I was trapped in the game by Audie, how I've been searching for a way out for a couple weeks now... I expected him to laugh me off at best or think I was crazy at worst. Instead he scratched his chin, closing his beady eyes deep in thought. "So that's what she was talking about..." I tilted my head at him in confusion, causing a cartoonish question mark to manifest above my head. I still wasn't used to that. "Before Audie disappeared she was rambling somethin' about 'finally getting to do some real shopping...' so that's where she went! Alright lil' buddy, I'll help ya out!"
With the first ray of hope shining down on me since I arrived, me and Buck went to work researching. I read through Blathers's private book collection in hopes of finding a hint while Buck scoured the town in search of a break in the geometry, a glitch, anything to get out. The days turned to weeks, and one morning I woke up to see the once-vibrant townscape blanketed instead by autumn leaves and dying grass. When I questioned Buck, he simply said, "Oh, that's just how seasons work 'round here."
I was glad to have some way of keeping track of the time here, but at the same time my thoughts inevitably drifted to the world outside... and Audie. 'That vixen is probably too busy coordinating her fall wardrobe to care about me. When I get out, I'll... I'll... well, I don't know. But one step at a time! I have to keep focused.'
It was a few more days before Buck found it: out on the outskirts of town, somewhere that I have no idea how he reached without a ladder, was a strange hole with a light shining through it. Even from a distance I recognized it: "My ceiling fan!"
He guffawed. "That's what I thought. Welp, let's getcha' up there then!" He pulled me up the cliff faces one by one, jumping and climbing higher than I thought was possible for a villager. "That's why ya work out, pardner!"
In no time we were standing in front of the hole. "The truth is," Buck started, "I tried reachin' through it- ya' know, ta' test it n' all,, but it just felt like I was hittin' glass. Maybe only you can get it to let someone through? Try it out!" I nodded as I stuck my hand into it and... wiggled my fingers?! I looked up to see my stumpy arm slipping through the barrier, but instead of a hoof at the end, there was a fully formed hand- my hand. It wasn't a hallucination, I could feel my hand again! "This is the real deal!" I exclaimed. Buck's eyes widened. 'It's a little high though, maybe I could ask Buck to-'
"Hup!" STOMP! The next thing I knew, I had a donkey hoof in my face. "Thanks for the lift, bud! Couldn't have done it without ya!"
"W-wha-?!" 'W-what's going on? What's he doing?!' I felt another hoof kick me as Buck grabbed onto the edge of what I assumed was my Switch.
"Keep your eyes on the prize, bro! Did you really think I was helpin' you escape? I'm finally outta that dump."
"B-but I- you-"
"You really are as gullible as Audie said~ She pegged you as the type to rely on anyone that looked dependable, and she was right! Well, thanks for holdin' the door open! Don't let it hit ya' on the way out~" He teased as he pulled his head out with his newly grown hand. I could see the hairs on his face gain texture, his simplistically colored ears grow ear fur, the creases on his shirt start to appear... meanwhile I could only manage to keep a few fingers above water.
"W-wait!" I objected. "We could go together! Y-you don't have to do this!"
Buck only chuckled. "Sorry bud, I heard from Audie that it's only one person per opening. Maybe you'll have better luck next time... whenever that is~" By this point only his legs were dangling in the air, and I could feel him using his new hoof-hands to push my own back down into the game whenever I reached out. He returned my pleading stare with the smuggest grin his new detail would allow. "Go pull some weeds or something, I got some real weights to lift! See ya!" And with that, the last of his green form vanished as the hole rapidly closed around him. I sat there in shock at the betrayal. It took months to find this opening- who knows when the next one may show up...

I've been wanting to get a sequel to the previous pic with Audie for quite a while now, and this came out way better than I could have imagined! It's an amazing perspective and I love all the little details in terms of how the detail shifts happen. Big thanks to Stickmanwww for the amazing pic! As a side note, I learned while coloring this pic that up until New Horizons, you could get one of four different grass pattern types on your island depending on your save- it's just the one pattern set for NH though. The more you know!

Hey! I just wanted to say how much this story just ROCKS! Like, honestly, the beats, the pacing, the way you got the reader to be immediately invested in the character and his plight was all done in a concise and gripping way that just hooks you into the story (similar to how this switch hooks you into its world XD)! Honestly, this is one of the absolute BEST stories I've come across so far, and one that is super niche and specific to this sort of concept to boot! I've always enjoyed this specific blend of switching/swapping places, the teasing of being able to escape, the last minute betrayal to get into a place where you can escape right before it happens, and just the way and the dynamics all of this just plays out here... it's perfect! And it matches the art really well as well!
You really did hit all the beats in this sort of story phenomenally well.
I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself now haha XD
Honestly, I don't know how much else to praise this but, I just can't praise it enough! This is excellent work and I honestly want to see more from this whole universe and this poor old goat XD

I’m glad you liked it, and I’m glad i was able to convey the feeling I was going for! So many bad end style stories and comms end up stopping at the bad end, but I enjoy seeing the struggle that ends up happening after.
For this particular setting I honestly don’t have very many ideas at the moment… maybe something with Tom Nook but that’s about it. I suppose if you feel like brainstorming you can send me a note and I’ll give you my Discord!

Yeah honestly! I love the idea and the prospects of seeing what lies beyond the scene? The implications of what happens next and the sheer sense of unknown that further allows for readers to add on to what is already established!
And sure! I'll send you a note right now! :D
