Sally tapped her desk with anticipation, nibbling her lip as Sister April approached with a sullen expression on her face, the paper in question trembling in her hands. Passing a hint of a playful look, her expression quickly turned into a coy, tooth grin only a Tiger Shark could deliver as she revealed the paper with pride in her posture.
“Stupendous job, Sally An! I knew we just needed to find the right subject matter, your scathing critique of the Football War of 1969 between El Savador and Honduras was a delightful read! Who knew they took Soccer THAT seriously!” Sister April beamed with pride, handing the Red Panda her marked English Writing Essay, which proudly displayed a large “A+” surrounded with star stickers and a scribble of a smiley face.
Sally An herself felt quite humbled by the results, it made the long stay after school almost worth it to see the best test marks she ever received in her entire life. Tugging at her school uniform as a red blush assaulted her cheeks, Sally An attempted to brush away the admiration with little success.
“Eh… it was a little more complicated then that, Teech! There was a ton of socio-economic reasons and underlying political intrigue that went back decades if not more, the Football Riot was more of a spark-” Sally An bit her tongue, holding back her newly found infatuation with obscure conflicts with great effort. “Eh… you’ve read enough as it is, I won’t bore you-”
“Oh, but you’ve done quite the opposite! I couldn’t be more proud of you! This is your highest grade in years! I’m certain with my guiding hand, you can continue this trend until graduation!” The Shark tugged at her cross necklace with proud determination. Sally An felt the same way. For all of this schools quirks and overwhelming Religious atmosphere, the Red Panda knew for certain Sister April was as genuine as they come. The youngest of the staff, the Shark Nun was the only one who saw anything worth salvaging in the rambunctious rapscallion instead of further filtering her through the system until she was no longer their problem.
Sally An had already been passed down by five other Secular school districts like a hot potato, so it was quite an interesting show of maturity to see the young punk stick around St. Cecilia’s Catholic School for Girl’s several months longer then her prior stomping grounds.
Maybe it was the new friends she made, maybe repeating eleventh grade and turning 18 gave her a sense of direction, or channeling all her aggression into music in after-school band practice that continued to rattle the school foundations cleared her head enough to focus. No matter what, Sister April couldn’t have been happier for the troubled youth.
And Sally An didn’t want to admit it, but she felt a similar way for her teacher… for a change.
“Maybe these after-school sessions are all their cracked up to be after all! And giving us the keys to the gym for band practice is something I’ll forever be grateful for! Especially after Kate’s dad kicked us out of his garage!” Sally An smirked, carefully tucking her graded paper into her school binder for safe keeping and proceeded to pack it away in her school bag next to a precariously sized box stuffed inside. A box that was showing signs of peeling. Blinking repeatedly, the Red Panda carefully patted a wrinkle out of the packaging, hoping it’s presentation wouldn’t be ruined.
“And I am so happy to see these after-school outings becoming such an outlet for you and your friends!” Sister April clapped her hands together with beaming optimism, her mirth practically spilling it’s banks. “I mean, I may not like how LOUD it is but it’s done wonders for your perception and discipline! It’s even rubbed off on the others! Hope hasn’t so much as skipped a class, Kate is much calmer these days, Reiko has begun speaking to others, ESPECIALLY to Kate! And Why, you haven’t struck anyone in months-!”
“-Even Mother Threepwood took my side on that one, Sister April!”
“-It’s delightful Madison followed the lessons of Christ to such a degree she decided NOT to press charges!”
“-Yeah… thank GOD!”
“-Regardless of the particular musical taste you have chosen and the-” Sister April passed a quick glance down at Sally An’s lace-up platform boots, which bobbed up and down thanks to the Red Panda’s sitting posture. “-Choice in after-school clothing ensembles, everyone must find a hobby as an outlet!”
“Correctamungo, Teech!” Sally An snickered, tapping her Electric Guitar case with her leather-clad toe before passing a careful eye down at the wrapped package in her bag. The clock was ticking down and she was due to get out of here any second.
Sally An put it off all day, working up the courage. It was now or tomorrow, just to repeat the cycle again until it was too late.
Biting her tongue, Sally An took a deep breath as she pulled her school bag off the ground. “Listen… uh… I know your twenty-fifth birthday is coming up and all and some see that as a milestone, halfway to middle-age they say-” Sally An fiddled with the wrapping paper with a spare claw, pondering how to reveal it.
“Oh, but not for a few more days! I think I’ve got a little bit of my youth left!” Sister April giggled, shushing away the suggestion of old age with the wave of her hand. “And you don’t need to get me anything, dear! Your passing grade is more then enough for me-!”
“Welp, that’s too bad, because I already got you something-”
“-OOOOOoooh! What did you get me!?” The Tiger Shark stamped her feet into the dusty tiles as she clapped her hands with giddy anticipation. “Is it a dress?”
“Not exactly!” Sally An snickered, finding a good grip on the package before heaving it out of her bag. Sister April gasped at the sight of it. A liberally sized and intricately wrapped present peeling at it’s sharp edges. Patting the top bow, the Red Panda flicked her pierced ear before ushering for her beloved teacher to open it. “My… uh… my step-dad helped me wrap it… dig in!”
“You shouldn’t have, Sally-!” The Tiger Shark squealed a chipper tune, barely containing her excitement as she dug her claws into the packaging, her plump tail wagging like a dog as the floor was soon littered with shredded wrapping paper. Her mirth soon gave way to a surprised gasp as the last of the paper peeled away, revealing the true purpose of the box only after she propped open it’s lid, whose contents were borderline sacrilege to the Nun.
A pair of calve-high wedge platform boots. Lace-up, just like Sally An’s. But unlike her students knee-highs, these had an enticing strap around the top collar and sturdy treads to grip any floor they would stomp over.
“...Tadaaaa…!” Sally An coyly giggled. “A bit of an upgrade over your clacky flats!”
“Sally! How much did this pair cost-!?”
“Totally free!”
“You STOLE them?”
“Teech? I’d never! They wouldn’t let me back in if I did!”
“My word, why?”
“I caught their biggest shoplifter, she had the GALL to try and fence these babies!” Sally An Flexed her two-fingered gloves. “Kicked her RIGHT in the cooch, too! STRAIGHT up main street!”
“Sally, Sally, Sally! I could never accept this gift!”
“There isn’t a law that says you can’t accept a gift from a student now, is there?”
“W-well no b-but… I couldn’t, wearing these would be scandalous-!”
“Teech-”
“SCANDALOUS, I say!”
“You’ve been gawking at my boots the day I began stomping around the school in em’! You might as well idolize a pair that’ll fit-!”
“-I-I shouldn’t! I-” Sister April peered inside the box, the aroma of stiff leather greeted her observant nostrils as she studied the boots in greater detail.
It was true that Sister April had an affection for Sally An’s footwear. Always rambunctious and testing the limits of her school, the Red Panda got away with her matching footwear and handwear thanks to a safety gear loophole in the dresscode, and due to constant observation, the Nun always felt compelled to stare from afar, admiring something she has abstained from physically appreciating herself.
And yet here she was, with a pair of her own.
She almost said no, but turning down such a gift as this would be rude! The stitching itself was very professional and their build seemed so sturdy, they were perhaps the best footwear she has every received from the quality alone. The Tiger Shark bit her lip as a slight blush began to glow on her cheeks, tugging at her veil to relieve her anxiety, Sister April slowly nodded at the box in question. “-Maybe it… it won’t hurt to put on just one… j-just to see if they fit after all!” Sally An giggled in response, springing to her feet before dragging her chair to the desk at the very front of the class.
“Take a seat up here, I’ll help you break them in!” The Red Panda coyly kicked one of her own boots back behind her in a playful pose as if she were showing off her own product. “Trust me, I’m a professional!” Tugging at her veil once more, Sister April sheepishly nodded as she followed her students instructions to the letter before plopping down on the seat in question with a look of approval spreading across Sally An’s face.
Sally An blinked. So did Sister April. The nun fiddled her fingers with growing social anxiety as her student raised an eyebrow.
“Uh… teech…?” Sally An inquired as Sister April squeezed her pleated habit between her soft hands, stopping their journey just past her ankles. “I’m gonna need that leg of yours for this exchange to work.” Taking a deep breath, Sister April pulled her habit up her legs to the knee as she raised a single foot, squeaking loudly in surprise as Sally An got a firm grip on her shoe and undid the frilly bow around her ankle in one single motion.
“Now, Sally, please be gentle-!” Sister April pleaded, so taken aback she barely noticed her pleated habit slid up her thigh to reveal her soft, spotted legs. Fiddling her fingers, the Tiger Shark squeaked once more as her shoe was plucked off her foot and tossed aside, clattering to the floor loudly with it’s cute ribbon twisting in the wind before lying motionless on the tiles, as if to signal the end of an era.
“Now for the fun part!” Sally An winked with a cheeky grin on her face and a hand plucking a boot out of the box. Picking out stiff cardboard and stuffing with one hand and tugging at the collar with another, Sally An undid the lacing and squeezed the nun’s slippery foot with the firm grip of her glove. “Okay now…” the Red Panda narrowed her eyes. “Push!” Nodding in response, Sister April pushed her foot into the boot with an audible gasp as her student guided the nun’s squeamish leg into it’s new home. The Tiger Shark shivered at the sensation of Sally An’s gloved hand caressing her bare skin in it’s descent, but moreso, she was stunned by the sensation of the boot itself. The leather was so much softer then she anticipated despite how snugly it clung to her leg and despite being held aloft, it weighed like an iron block compared to her flats. Flexing her toes as Sally An squeezed the toe of the boot to gauge the space inside, the Red Panda clicked her tongue as she secured the lacing with each loop, the nun chewing her lip as she spun her foot round and round, mesmerized by the design of her foots new guardian.
Before long, every loop was fastened in place and the belt around the collar was firmly bolted down with a loud CLACK of the buckle. Sighing at the sight of her work, Sally An squeezed the Tiger Sharks plump calve to signal her job was done.
“Well, Sister April! How does it feel?”
The Tiger Shark blinked in response, her cheeks practically aglow as a toothy grin spread across her snout. Sister April wore boots before, but nothing as scandalous as this! Falling out of Sally An’s grasp, the boot descended to the floor where it planted it’s treading into the dusty tiles. Sheepishly grinding it left and right, she giggled as she flexed her toes in their new home, the elation of her new height and new level of security was almost too much for the Nun to comprehend!
“I’ve never felt so-” Sister April whispered, her breath baited as she raised her leg high to marvel at the sight. “-Strong! Cheese and Crackers, Sally! Thank you! These boots are marvelous! No wonder you and your friends wear them so often!”
“If your having fun now, just wait until you take your first steps.” Sally An Cooed, smirking with devilish intent. “That’s where the REAL fun begins!”

Something cute this time around. An older commission from due cartonist OneiricNebula from DA, who has sadly been radio silent in 2021. This is one of many commissions I've ordered from the sister duo and is infinitely cute. Writing out the story has stirred up a desire to bring back Sister April once more, who knows when she'll show up again?

That's such cute story and Sister April is such a nice character. It's nice to see her looking happy and she looks cute in her new boots.
when we get to see sister april walking around in those and learning how to play in platforms
Future commissions idea. Have plans for her own punk outfit but I just need to find the right artist c:
can't wait for it, but given this is her 1st time with them would be fun to see her trip after getting used to them in a way
Could see that footwear on the 'Sister as projecting the image of 'stern disciplinarian', but a thorough read of the accompanying story suggests she might be a bit too cheerful to maintain the look :)
She'll most certainly wear them under he pleated habit and hope the Abbess of the school doesn't noticed her sudden growth spurt ;D
