Based on an old memory that unintendedly found its way into this artwork.

Started in September 2021. It kept resurfacing and piling through different folder names. Makes me want to polish some early stages and put them in scraps. It feels like some of the first/early versions of pieces I finish over a long period of time have a completely different intent and deserve to be shown separately as well.
But never seeing anyone do this makes me hesitant. Did no other artist experience these distinct phases of one piece? Or they do, but don't do it because it will seem like recycling?

Thinking about it made me think of this footage of Picasso drawing. Some stages could reasonably be considered a finished piece, but refusing to do so and continuing to go on creates this 4-dimensionality of a piece. Where despite the final version being the 'last word', it wouldn't have been achieved or even thought of if the chicken hadn't been doodled. But in the end, despite all the hard work, the chicken lies beneath the black blobs.
What makes me incredibly irritated is that I'm constantly tempted to go on, resulting in a big amount of hidden chickens being buried one after another.
